🇺🇸 Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 3

US News

Keen won the special state House race by 3 points, while the R he replaced won in 2022 by 10 points.
People can analyze statistics and polls a priori (which I've done ad nauseam), but what is.....is. Barring an earthshaking change before the November elections, the house is toast for the GOP and if the GOP loses the down ballot, it bodes ill for the nationwide general election (to be fair, this is an a priori observation). Bottom line is that republicans aren't winning local races and we've seen enough of these losses across the board to know this isn't a statistical fluke.

The special elections in 2022, this past year and tonight show Ds still have the advantage. Janet Protosaewicz winning a WISC seat by 11 points (in what should’ve been an otherwise close race), the OH abortion constitutional amendment by 13 points and so forth.

Florida Rs should be in panic mode. While Deegan and this guy winning should be a morale boost for FL Ds, this is a red flag for Rick Scott. Scott barely won his seat in a D favorable midterm and he hasn’t endeared himself to moderates since then. Murcasel-Powell needs to go full out on his failed record as governor, his plan to gut SS and Medicare and his vote to end abortion by proxy by confirming ACB to the SCOTUS.

Oh Geeze......another old white guy. :o

Orlando Sentinel - Democrat Keen wins state House 35 special election over GOP’s Booth
Democrat Tom Keen flipped what had been a Republican seat in Central Florida in a special election held Tuesday for state House District 35.
Keen, who made abortion rights and property insurance key issues in the race, got between 65% to 70% of nonpartisan, or NPA, voters to make up for Republicans turning out in larger numbers than Democrats, said Matt Isbell, a Democratic elections analyst.

"What actually clinched the win for Democrats was this massive margin with NPAs and perhaps some Republican moderates as well," Isbell said. "If anything, this should be concerning for the GOP because it indicates a voter anger that maybe they have not understood."

The special election for the district in eastern Orange and Osceola counties was triggered when former Republican state Rep. Fred Hawkins resigned last year to become president of South Florida State College in Highlands County.

The district has an almost even collection of Democrats, Republicans and independents.

The previous Republican had won that seat by 10 points in 2022.

That is a BIG shift. There’s a pattern with these off year and special elections— and it’s NOT favorable for Republicans.

Glad he won. One more Blue district for Florida. Too bad more areas can't go the same way.

There needs to be a candidate to challenge every R seat up for grabs and they need to really GOTV there. Because if Rs are discouraged by FDJT being on the ballot in November, some will stay home and won’t vote.

But if large numbers of energized Ds vote without R votes countering them, there can be some shock seat flips. Which is why Rick Scott is uniquely vulnerable this year.

OH, I listen to them....all the time. Like how over 2 out of 3 think the election was stolen.....and that's amongst republicans and not just his supporters. Never mind the fact no courts (even with Trump appointed judges) nor his own attorney general agree. Sorry, but, I listen, I just don't agree with people who support a rapist for president.

Neither do I. I don't get these people.

It's not enough to say you support creating their country (like Israel was created in 1948) - people have been saying that to no impact for decades - actions have to be taken in pursuance to that effect.
