🇺🇸 Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 3

US News
Do you see this as similar to the situation in Kentucky (Booker v McGrath)?
Eh. Kentucky is a little different situation. Kentucky has knowingly been reelecting the Grim Reaper of any progress for this country knowing he's the root cause for nothing getting done. So I understand why someone like McGrath would appeal to them. Hickenlooper has gone on record that he's against Medicare for All (despite sponsoring the damn thing), the Green New Deal, and a Wealth Tax things Progressives have been wanting.

He brings so much money into Kentucky, it's ridiculous (and crooked politics at its finest). It's also going to make him very difficult to defeat. Still, I think McGrath has a better chance than Booker did. WRT Colorado, I see it pretty much the same way. There's a (better) chance to flip a seat. Yeah, Hickenlooper isn't my cup of tea, but, again, he probably has the best chance of winning. This lesser of two evils is a dangerous game to play, but when I look at what's happening in the courts, it seems a little less dangerous to me. I also think the party is starting to slightly bend left and I think these "moderate" dems will generally follow.

Let's hope so. I'm leery of the Joe Manchins like that one New Jersey guy who seem to be one social program away from shifting to the other side.

Yeah Mitch gets all that money, but somehow Kentucky is still so sick and poor... I wonder why? ;)

Yah....Manchin.....now it's MY turn to say "ugggghhhhh". The dems definitely need a solid majority in the Senate.

Which program would he have to shift on? Seems to me he could slide right in. :cwink:

Probably healthcare. I know he doesn't like M4A, but he doesn't seem to like the idea of a public option either.

Perhaps, but if this is introduced again, I predict a lot of Republicans, including Joe Manchin, will support it.:cwink:

As long as he doesn't become the new Liebrman. I thought that was the biggest mistake to the ACA. The mandate made it so vulnerable for vitriol.

but he was an "independent"!!! LOL.
I just didn't understand the logic that made the mandate a better option than actual freedom of choice to get affordable healthcare.

Can’t wait for Trump’s “condolences”
I don’t think anyone is holding their breath.

Another step in progress is gone. I think he would say “carry on”.

That's why we need a real opposition party.

There's a good parallel to be drawn here with the Spanish Civil War. In the face of Franco's Nationalist forces, Republicans were told by the Stalinist USSR to ally themselves with the so-called "progressive bourgeoisie" in a Popular Front. But the liberal bourgeoisie are no ally against fascism. They will always choose a right-wing government that protects their property rights over a workers' government that challenges them.

We need this from leaders of all stripes, within and without the Democratic Party:

But it seems instead we are getting this:

This story is days old now and we are getting indications we will be seeing this in other cities.

There's no successful spin here that we need to fear.

In a supposed response to acts of vandalism the Federal Government is planning on sending a secret police force into our towns and cities.

I actually get that just because that appropriation was passed doesn't mean action can't be taken. That part of the story is unfair.

But after days with only strongly worded Tweets the citizens are hungry for actions.

If the House won't do anything then local elected Democrats need to get on this.

That has it's own worries though.

Say this force is sent to New York... Okay... Cuomo I can see not wanting to be "punked" by Trump. Something like that would be a direct confrontation between the Gov. and the Pres. and Cuomo definitely has national ambitions. So he sends the National Guard or NY State troopers, what have you, to stop the Feds.

Well... That's just a tinderbox waiting for a spark.

@KRYPTON INC., I like you. Your heart is in the right place.

We could definitely use a Captain American-calibre speech right now. I might rewatch The Winter Soldier tonight. Seems like a good time to watch a movie where the U.S. government has been infiltrated by Nazis.
