Murkowski as well. Didn't hear Collins, but since it doesn't seem like Pence is there...

EDIT: Collins, Murkowski, and McCain were no. Suck it McConnell.

Thank you Democrats and independent Senators! Thank you Republican defectors. A special thank you to Senator McCain.

But Zombie Healthtrumpdontcare has had set backs before only to zombie its way back again and again. That movie needs to end.

This seems appropriate for the Turtle and Eddie Munster

Reactionists on Tuesday: Why the hell are Democrats applauding McCain!? He voted to open debate! I don't care that he has cancer! He deserves to die! Everyone should be booing!

Reactionists today: **** yeah John McCain, you maverick, you! You are an American hero!

Reactionists next week when McCain inevitably does or says something that pisses them off: JUST DIE ALREADY!

The cycle never ends.

Seriously though, good for McCain. He is a man who really has spent his time in DC trying to maintain his principles and integrity in a town that slowly chips it away. He is a human. He has not always succeeded. He is a loyal man, and the GOP has used that loyalty to push him into places he clearly has not been comfortable with (often at the expense of his legacy). All while dragging him over the coals and using McCain as their own personal punching bag. The GOP offered only half-hearted defenses when their presidential nominee mocked his war record. They eagerly blamed him for the rise of Obama. They have used him and abused him. It's great to see though, when he knows he is probably on his way out, he returned to his maverick roots and did the right thing for his country (and in the process gave a big old middle finger to Trump, Pence, and McConnell who have repeatedly disrespected him). He showed the GOP that they need not be bullied by Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, who are trying to rush through terrible legislation in the name of "getting a win." John McCain and I agree on very little. But the man truly is an American hero.

I fully expect replace to come back when he finally gives up his seat. Though, we will see if AZ's Gov Ducey appoints another Collins/Murkowski or not.

It was nice seeing McCain being a maverick last night, instead of being the GOP's punching bag again and again.

It probably won't last though.

I wonder just how much of a pain in the ass McCain is about to be...

Cancer makes you have a change of heart, man.

Murkowski and Collins do deserve a lot of praise. But the hardest vote is the one that sends your party's plans down in flames. That's why things usually snowball once a third GOP no surfaces.

I feel like McCain voted to have the debate just so he could crush the thing in the most dramatic way possible. It can't be a coincidence he literally waited until almost the very end to vote.

That's some West Wing-level **** right there.

I think he wanted to pay Trump back for the insults thrown his way, in the most public way imaginable.

Almost undoubtedly; CNN noted that McCain's speech when he returned was all about how the Senate used to conduct business and how that was the way it should conduct business. And then he goes to the vote saying "Enjoy the show," apparently informed some of his Democratic colleagues how he'll vote, leaves the room to take Trump's desperate phone call, and walks back in to give a thumbs down "no."

I mean, I'd love to find out if he got some trash-talking in on Trump right before hanging up.

"Remind me again, how do you define heroism? 'Not being captured?' I think I can do you one better..."

"Say, you ever seen that movie 'Gladiator?' Get ready for a scene re-enactment."

"I've got some bad news: your already horrible week is about to get a lot worse."

"This! Shall Not! PASS!!!"

"Hey, Donnie, guess who has two thumbs and doesn't give a crap? You're about to find out."

If McCain told Donald over the phone that he was going to kill his bill just before killing the bill you know Trump probably threw his phone and had a tantrum.

McCain: "Donald, I'm about to walk out onto the floor and vote no, and there isn't a damn thing you or Mitch can do about it."

*McCain hangs up on Trump*

I'm kinda bothered that McCain is getting all this praise when Collins and Murkowski have been actually consistent on this.

McConnell was also planning around Collins and Murkowski. It's why Pence was on the floor before this went down. Manchin also deserves credit for not breaking with the Dems. McCain is getting the attention because of how it came out of no where. He was the feared third vote, which no one tends to want to be.
