Yeah, reading a bit more on the type of cancer he has, outlook isn't good. I feel for the family, as this will be rough. And I used to like him.

So Heller (RIP his senate seat), Capito, & Portman just voted yes on the MTP. It's likely going to pass...

McCain voted yes, what a maverick.

Thankfully this is just discussion for the bill, but the fact that it got this far, is a bit worrisome.

We will see which bill actually gets voted upon in two days.

I have a hard time thinking the Republicans will get a bill that passes, at least anything more than a symbolic one. They've spent two or three months behind closed doors trying to put together something that they could 50 votes on. They failed. I am not sure what makes them think they can do any better in a public forum, with Democrats free to chime in (and filibuster).

McConnell and McCain are ample proof of why we need term limits on Senate and House legislators.

well the grand experiment was good for a little while guys. these GOP obviously don't fear the ballot box anymore.

What a disgrace. F*** John McCain and every last one of these a**holes who voted yes today. I know that it's only a vote to allow a debate for repealing and replacing the ACA, but this effort should be dead by now. There isn't a chance in hell that any bill the GOP comes up with will be better than the ACA. The only question at this point is how many THOUSANDS of Americans their bill will kill if it's passed.

F*** the Republican Party. THEY are to blame for all of this. They backed Trump and continue to back him despite what is becoming overwhelming evidence that he colluded with a murderous Russian dictator to win the election, just so they can ram through legislation that gives tax breaks to their rich owners.

Don't be so dramatic. It is a vote to begin a debate. Not to mention, Republicans said the same thing when Democrats passed their largely unread, untweaked, and unpopular Obamacare. Republicans should ask Democrats circa January 1, 2011 how it worked out for them.

In other news, reaction from POTUS:

@SenJohnMcCain-Thank you for coming to D.C. for such a vital vote. Congrats to all Rep. We can now deliver grt healthcare to all Americans!

Do you think he understands that nothing has been passed?

and the dems and bernie cheered or hugged mccain as he arrived or after he voted.

medicia dwill be gutted and that;s not counting trump's budget or what governors are doing to medicaid like here in my state of MO.and 32 million americans will lose health
care for more tax cuts.

What would you have them do? Boo the American hero who has just been diagnosed with brain cancer, the average length of survival for which is 16 months?

I don't think people fully appreciate just how symbolic this vote was. And by symbolic I mean it hasn't really accomplished anything. No law has been passed. No law has been repealed.

nah obamacare is gone and trumpcare or ryancare will pass.and gop was won first large battle to destroy mediciad and dems are all more worried about cherring for mccain to fight.plus they are ilrelvent.reember when dems has 59 seats and did nothing but republicans can pass anything with 52 seats.

as long as the dems are so called opposition party gop will continue to win.they won every house special election this year and as posed to keep winning elections.

they didn't have to do anything but just treat this as any other vote.mccian who gets government health care voted to go after million health care.

trump or ryan care will pass.both house and sneate showed when push comes to shove most will fall in line in end.

You're making no sense.

Calling this the first battle won completely ignores the ****shows that failed this year.

Exactly. Republicans have been fighting a war for six months and have lost every single battle up until this point. Yet after winning one battle, one which was completely inconsequential and gave them no ground in the war mind you, certain people are throwing up their hands and screaming "REPUBLICANS HAVE WON! OBAMACARE IS DEAD! EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE! HEALTHCARE IN AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT IS FOREVER DESTROYED!"

Take a Xanax guys. It was a vote to start a debate on a bill that doesn't exist that Republicans could not reach a consensus on after three months of careful crafting and massaging. This is their Hail Mary.

It is sounding like the final bill will be the BCRA with Cruz amendment. Which is dead in the water.

Well, **** you, too, John McCain. One way to ensure you're going to hell, I guess.

With all due respect, **** that guy. I am sorry he has brain cancer. I really am. But if your last act is to (symbolically) vote to screw over 20 million poor and sick Americans to give people like Trump a little more pocket change you can burn in hell as far as I am concerned.

If he had the courage of his convictions he would have spoken out against this ridiculous bill and Trump.

It is sounding like the parliamentarian has ruled stuff in the amended BCRA fail the Byrd rule, thus is subject to the filibuster. Can easily see this being McConnell's out, placing blame on Democrats, allowing Republicans to vote for it without the consequences.

But even accepting that the worst is true: that McCain is a selfish old man who deserves his brain tumor and a slow painful death, what is gained by booing him pragmatically? What is gained for Democrats by not applauding or greeting their colleague who has (likely) terminal cancer? That optic is a nightmare and weakens any moral high ground that the Dems have.
