Discussion: The Second Amendment IV

To me this is all fairly silly. If the President wants to do a photo-op with a gun he can do a photo-op with a gun; he's the f***ing President.

Pretty much how I see it, but this President does little without an agenda behind it....just seems to me that someone around him would have advised him to shoot UP....lol

Hardly anymore than any public figure. You can read anything into anything but it's pretty erroneous unless you actually know the person. Everything you hear about anyone famous filters through a publicist, handlers and an image consultant. The President has and always will have a huge staff of those kinds of people.

I think the only problem I have with him in that regard is far to often he does respond to stupid criticisms. Like the birth certificate. At some point you just start ignoring this stuff. I'd say winning a second term basically means you're above this. Who cares if he does or does not shoot skeet. Oh yeah, people who *********e to Texas Ranger care. People who hang on every one of Ted Nugent's half coherent thoughts care. They aren't two term Presidents though, probably for good reason.

So I just don't think this warranted a response at all. In fact I'm not sure which one of his advisers thought the photo would shut anyone up. A birth certificate, birth announcement and long form didn't, why the hell would this work? and I'd fire whoever thought it would.

Hmmmm....when your top adviser says "never let a disaster go to waste..." sorry, I put him far and above most in the agenda area. In a position like that you are the people you put around you as your close advisers.

I think it is actually quite possible that it WASN'T a photo op at all, but simply him saying.....hey let me take a crack at that when some of his friends were shooting....and then what was pretty much a pic having some fun, WAS THEN USED to answer a stupid question....

One thing I do believe, I do believe that Obama is a very intelligent man, that has no clue how to choose people to advise him. He makes very poor choices in those areas...and I think this may be an excellent example of just that.

So, there seems to be lots of shootings and standoffs lately.

Or so it seems....but I can't help but wonder if it seems that way only because news stations know it's a popular issue right now and want to capitalize on it...maybe these types of things are more common than we realize and it's not just a recent thing.

Followed by "And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before."

Which is true.

Soooo, yeah, again, you're just reading what you want into that statement, not what the context of that statement was meant to imply. Politically speaking, it's a fairly accurate statement.

What was he talking about when he said that, do you remember?

1,073-page $787 billion “stimulus bill” That was put through with no debate on the floor, and no committee debate....yes, that bill where NONE of the amendments the Republicans put forth in committee made it through. YES, the stimulus where every job created or saved is costing us $533,000 until 2019.

Yes, this was the crisis.

Tell me another way to visually inspect the barrel of a gun. Also, there NRA is not in part of the US military so, there's no hypocritical double standard here.

This is probably the safest way to do it.

So, you don't remember the context.

It was about energy policy in reference to Carter missing the boat in '73.

Your rant had nothing to do with that statement.

You still have to look down the barrel. And, according to you, it could still be loaded. Kable and I know what we're talking about. Watch the video is posted if you don't believe me.

That can't be loaded and if it were it wouldn't fire since there is no hammer to fire the round (you could probably tell right away by looking at the back end of the barrel to see that there was a round in it). Like I said before, it is ironic, that the military uses that procedure to inspect a gun when the NRA and other folks tell civilians that that is not the way to treat a gun.

Again, there are lots of precautions taken. One of which is that any rifle being used in drill fashion, like in that picture, doesn't even have a magazine in it. So, to recap, no magazine, bolt locked back so it can't fire, safety on so it can't fire, and visually confirmed by two people that it is not loaded. It's safe.

Oh, and the military is really strict on when and where soldiers are even allowed to carry ammo.

you are not going to win this one. The military have been inspecting weapons like this for a long time.

All I can say is that this is what the experts recomend:

These types of recommendations have served to cut the number of accidental deaths by firearms by half over the last century and words like "every", "always", and "never" leaves no room for exceptions. Who am I or you to go against that?

I'm also pretty sure that the NRA advises against twirling and throwing rifles around, too. The Marine Corp Honor Guard still does it though.

Try taking the barrel off of an AR15. It's not exactly hand tight.

BTW...I love being educated by someone who has never owned or fired a gun, yet seems to think he knows every aspect of them, because of what he reads on the internet.

From the looks of these videos, it appears that you can remove the barrel in about 30 seconds. Once the bolt retainer with the firing pin is removed you can just look down the back end of the barrel to see if it's clear.

Dnno, unless you've actually served in the military and been trained on how to properly and safely handle a rifle, I don't suggest talking down to those of us who have.

To make this as easy as possible for you to understand, the picture of President Truman looking i to the barrel of a rifle is almost certainly from a drill ceremony. This means that the Marines in the picture are highly trained professionals. It also means that there are no live bullets anywhere near those rifles and, no magazines in them, either. It also means that the Marine who handed the President that rifle checked it thoroughly to ensure it was not loaded before handing it off. It also means that President Truman checked it as well.

No, if you still want to play know-it-all on this topic, please do it with someone who actually knows less than you do.

The assault weapons ban has been dropped in attempts for more gun control.

I didn't watch your videos, but just looking at the first screen shots, it looks like they didn't remove the barrel. They removed the upper receiver from the lower and pulled out the carrier group.

Again, I enjoy being educated by the uneducated on the subject. :whatever:

I figured this was going to happen. I'm curious on what more gun control is referring too.

I'm hoping prices come down now and there is some product to be bought.

I would venture to say they have changed to a more far reaching "universal background check" and possibly full registration on all weapons. They did not let that wording go without a fight....

In the second video, the narrator removed the barrel completely and then inspected it (from the back end) in the same amount of time (30 seconds). Pretty easy. You should watch the video next time before you post.

A little girl field stripped an AR-15 in 15 seconds. Care to comment on that?

Dude, I'm going by what the NRA and most gun safety experts are instructing civilians to do (most of them aren't in the military). Are you trying to say that the NRA is not an authority on that matter?

That's their preferred method, but there is more than one way to do a barrel inspection.
