Does this thread fit with my student's essay on

"One man's terrorist is another man's hero"

I think it does.....

Does this logic apply to the individual as well? If I leave my job for a higher paying one because I'm not "content with simply paying the bills' does that mke me "greedy"?
depends on whether your bills are for mostly luxury items.

but that's different from business which is intended to keep growing and growing and growing for the sake of greater profits to the owner. There is no point of satisfaction.

I hold no romanticized notions of Jefferson. He is basically Tony Soprano with Libertarian-esque ideals.

That is why he is Stormy's hero....lol

It might be time for you to move into the middle of the woods and live off the land so you don't have to contribute to all these greedy businesses.

Ummm.... you might want to quote someone...

Nah, I just don't want corporations to control everything.

Haha, my hero is Alexander Hamilton.

You give Alexander Hamilton the ideology of Thomas Jefferson and you have the ideal founding father.

Instead you have an awful human being advocating liberty and the Greatest American essentially being the Godfather for everything wrong with this country politically.

So everyone involved in public service is primarily motivated by greed.

How do you figure?

Remember the government isn't some giant, monolithic organism. It's actually controlled by publicly elected officials. You don't like those in power, run for office yourself.

Two words: "Crony Capitalism". The Obama Administration, like many others before it, get in bed with the corporations all the time. So guess what happens after the end of an presidential administration? You honestly think that a person who serves in government is any less craven than a person who is into big business?

On another tangent: Abraham Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during the Civil War, Woodrow Wilson re-segregated the US military, FDR interned Japanese citizens, Reagan did a end-run on Congress involving the Contras, Clinton authorized Echelon (the precursor to the roving wiretaps), Bush (II) went to war without a declaration from Congress, and Obama is making a grab for 1/6th of the American economy through draconian health care (no tort reform, no portability, paying abortions, etc.) and cap-and-trade (which would increase energy costs by at least 30 percent). So don't sit there and say that people should not be concerned about the government, just because you happen to be politically aligned with the president and his party. I bet if McCain was president, you wouldn't be so blase about the concerns of the Oath Keepers. And if you are, how are you about "Earth First" and the radical Islamists? Thought so.

O.

Government is much like the Church as far as I'm concerned. Much is expected from both, but both are run by "man" (waits for crying of sexism, so I'll leave it...lol) and therefore destined for corruption, we can only hope for low levels of said corruption.

The corruption will drop when mankind gets out of government.

Either embrace the absurdity that exists in government by electing animals to office, or turn things over to machines.

I guess, what I was saying is....corruption is always going to be there. Therefore we do have to live with it.

Greed and corruption got us in this mess in the 1st place.......it is going on far to long and is to deeply rooted in our system.

I don't get it...two big protests today but there is no indication, at least that i've seen, that the "commiez" want to "take ur gunz"

It says there are new posts but for some reason I'm not seeing them.

Is it just me or is thread being bumped with no posts being made?
