Discussion: The Second Amendment

Okay, how many people INTENTIONALLY killed people with cars or trucks?Car deaths include thousands of accidental death, but a few actual homicides. It is an entirely differnt set of stats. I hate it when this comparison is made, because it does as much good as going "Hey, look over there" to help the discussion. I like gun's, I'm not anti gun by any means. I just hate gun people who don't have the common sense to compromise over stupid, simple, easy to understand things like certain things just do not get sold to the public. I don't see why some gun people have this thick hardheadedness about making sure these weapons don't end up in the hands of mentally unstable civilians looking to kill as many people as possible, in confined areas, in a short amount of time. If you claim to know anything about guns, you know just on design basis these gun's are only meant for killing masses of people.

But wait, since the numbers say bad chili kills more people per year than some wack job using an AK-47, your safe. Unless your a cop. Then your odd's are not good. But it's okay since we taxpayers pay cops to get killed by these weapons (that we need to keep us safe from the government coming to take them away). I'm sure some will agree that no compromises need to be made, the police just need to respect that these guys need that 30 round easy to convert to full auto Military grade weapons to protect the rest of us... from the government.

This type of closed minded thinking persists, we are going to totally lose the 2nd amendment. I'll be damned that someone lets their pride and ignorance screw up my right to own a handgun to protect myself because they need to have the "bigger dick" among their future Militia friends.

Homework assignment:
If anyone is interested, next Friday 20/20 will air an episode called "If I only Had A Gun", it seems to be primarily about what one might be able to do in a crisis situation, such as a bank robbery, mugging, etc. if they were armed. At one point it looked like they were using the same viewpoint as a FPS video game.
The commercial also mentioned something about investigating how easy it is to get a gun, and other related subjects. Might be interesting and good fodder for our debate here.

Funny you speak of hard headedness yet you sit there and repeat the 'bigger dick' syndrome because someone wants to own an assault rifle. You also make the assumption that the people that own an assault rifle automatically upgrade their semi automatic to full auto immediately after they purchase them.

Curious question, have they said yet if the AK-47 he used is full auto or semi auto? I'm asking because I haven't heard. An article would be much appreciated.

What exactly is it you don't want to be sold to the public? Or to regular citizens? If I remember correctly you don't want anyone to be able to obtain a clip with a capacity larger then 10 rounds. What else?

I don't think I can voice my point of view about this any clearer. I believe no civilian should own military style assault weapons. Unlike rifles designed to kill game, assault weapons are designed solely to kill humans. AK-47's and Cheap Chinese knock-offs, CAR-15, TAC-9, these weapons have no place in the market. The people who usually own these weapons don't really share the same opinions as sensible, responsible gun owners anyway and are pretty much the fringe . If they are anything like the people I'm familiar with, they brag more than shoot the weapons anyway.

These weapons are solely designed as killing tools for the military, not for civilians who hunt (they make lousy hunting weapons anyway) or want to take out some pent up frustration on some targets at the shooting range. And as far as protective weapons, unless the crime in your area has multiple heavily armed and body armored attackers swarming into your compound (like SWAT officers), then a handgun or shotgun is more than enough protection. These weapons are what people look at in these shooting sprees, and if more gun owners don't step up, push the fringe aside and compromise, then we may loose the entire 2nd amendment in the long run.

If Law enforcement pushes for bans to take place (and considering we have had numerous shootings at police in just the past few weeks it's probobly a matter of sooner or later) it will happen. Look how many instances have happened since I joined this conversation.

I went to the gun show yesterday, damn good beef jerky at those things.

Proof?

Isn't it possible that the Founders didn't include the 2nd Amendment for hunting, but for protection FROM government. What is the point of the other 9 Amendments if you don't have a means to protect them?

I got a sap while I was there, now I can play 1940's cop "questioning suspects". It was just too cool to pass up.

I own a military type assault rifle but it fires bullets no larger then a regular pistol. I have only the intent to use it at the firing range but if someone broke into my house I'm going to be putting my sidearm on me and picking up my assault rifle because I know I'll hit the target with a rifle rather than a pistol.

So, once again, what majority of gun owners find accurate to defend themselves in their home, which in my opinion you or no one else has the right to tell me or anyone what I can and can't defend my home or family with, you feel should be punished because a few gun owners lose their cool. If you think that people are through birth the best at firing a pistol or that it is the 'best' or 'most adequate' weapon for protecting yourself. Frankly, its not a smart thing to say.

If you believe a snub nose 6 shooter or less than 10 round magazine pistol with a 4 inch barrel is going to be super accurate especially when your adrenaline is pumping is ignorant. Have you taken any classes on how to properly use a handgun? Or are you all self taught?

Was it a full auto AK-47 that was used on those police officers? I can attest that with a 30 round clip its easy if you have 4 clips to fire off 100 rounds.

I wish they had some where I was at. The bagged stuff just doesn't cut it.

OMG, you're one of them crazies that believe that the government is going to turn on us, oh noes!

:hehe:

I'm not really sure what you are asking...?

He's asking you think that the government is at the point of "going to" when many of their policies seem to point to the fact that they alread have, in his opinion...

You can read my mind.

What am I thinking Right Now?!?

Anyone know how gun sales were doing during Bush's two terms? I was just wondering.

I must be tired or something because I don't see how I didn't realize what you were saying. Is the government rogue yet? I would say they are walking the tight rope between the two.

Our protection in the bill of rights doesn't mean we have the general gun buying public getting to have access to military ordinance.

Once again, as a gun rights supporter myself, are you saying that the population is allowed to have weapons designed to kill numerous human beings at once? Why even have something like that available, given the amount of individuals who usually think the country is against them usually attack figures of authority?

Yes.
