Looks great in real life too. If a man is forced to kill someone with their own hands it would take more time. More time means more of a chance for someone to stop them.

The kids at Columbine would have had a much more difficult time if they would have been armed with swords.

There is no way we would ever get to the point of no weapons.....eutopia doesn't exist.

But you can't confuse making guns illegal with making guns go away.

Numbers alone say we would be safer. No Gun Shows. No Catalog purchases. No commercial sales. Guns would be antiques passed down instead of weapons sold on the corner.

Math says that we would be safer.

That's incredibly naive.

But Malice's question wasn't "what if guns don't exist", it was "what if he banned weapons".

Banning them would go a long way in getting rid of them. No commercial sales of guns means that they will start to fade and not be as readily available.

I can kill a man 15 different ways with a drinking straw.....16 if I leave the wrapper on

Brock Samson - Now, Hank, touch your throat. That tube you feel is your trachea. Think of it as your handle. That thing your thumb is on is your carotid artery. Think of it as your button. I want you to grab the handle, push the button. Can you repeat that, Hank?
Hank Venture - [gasping] Grab the handle, push the button.
Brock Samson - Let go of your own throat, Hank.

I don't know if you know this or not but getting items from the Black Market is alot harder than going to Wal Mart.

Venture Bros...one of my favorites....

I personally....
think banning of guns is not the solution.

Those who want to use them illegally...tend to use those that are not bought legally...so those that are law-abiding would just be helpless to those that are not.

Anyway I think about it, that is what I keep coming too...

Why does the Pro Gun lobby always bring up that old saw?

If a man gets stabbed in the pancreas the first thing you do is stop the bleeding. Does that mean that the pancreas is fixed? No. But stopping the bleeding is a great first step.

My question to everyone is this:

If I was president...and immediately banned ALL weapons.
Would that make you safer? I know its a theoretical question...

But I thought its a just question...
As much as I'd love to see such a solution work, it's just not feasible in reality so no. All it would do is make sure criminals and government have guns. The responsible gun owners should bea ble to defend themselves and hunt animals if they want to.

How did those kids get those guns? Surely they could have been stopped from getting them without banning guns completely.

If I take my car and intentionally start driving down a crowded sidewalk running over nuns, grandmothers, puppies and girl scouts...does that mean tighter restrictions should be placed on who can buy a car?

Fine, close down gun shows.

IMO, we don't need stricter restrictions, we just need to effectively use the ones we have on the books already.....

But, to think that we will ever have a time where guns will be totally off the street, is extremely naive....a wonderful thought, but very naive. Will Mexico do the same? doubtful, will Canada do the same, if it happens it will happen their first, BUT will they strengthen their borders to keep others from "using" them to get guns into the US.

A grand, but naive thought.

I am looking at 2005 numbers (only cause they were the easiest to find)
Link

Now....according to this...
Homicide is 15th in the list - 18,124 deaths
Suicide is 11th - 32,637
Accidental Death (unintential injuries) is 5th - 117,809

I gotta say, 18 thousand deaths due to homicide is insane...not not all those are guns...but I would image 80% (at least) of them are gun related...

My biggest problem is, do we ban cars to protect people from car accidents?
41,611 people killed in auto accidents in 1999 (could not find it for 2005)

But more people died in car accidents by almost 2.5 times...
