Fantasy Disney's "Gargoyles" movie?

Ugh, I should have read the fine print.

What I can see happening to save on the budget is Goliath and maybe Demona (in a much smaller role) are the only Gargoyles we see and Hudson, Broadway, Lexington, Brooklyn and Bronx are presumed dead but actually MIA or hidden away somewhere in statue form. They're teased but only brought into the show for season two with a bigger budget if the first season is a success.

It would be a bummer if that wound up being the case, especially if it got cancelled after only one season. That would make fans mad!

I'd almost rather them make a direct-to-streaming movie with all of the Manhattan clan Gargoyles, then launch a series afterwards if it's successful. At least that way if it didn't do well we'd still get the chance to see them all in live action regardless.

I get the feeling some details are being fudged. Doubt it's just Goliath.
I can see them playing it cheap and holding back on most of the other gargoyles but I also doubt he'd be the only one. They can get away with having Goliath and Demona as the only two for the first season and still tell an interesting story.

Adaptions tend to be cheap and try to change things up. Can Disney afford a show where they have 5 gargoyles that take up half the screentime each episode? Thats expensive.

All of them outside of Brooklyn and Broadway can be done with minimal monster makeup and paint with the right actors.

There is also an element of how practical it is to have 5 lead characters need the time and set up to get into the make up for the show.

This.

Give us a full live action version of Awakening, whet the audience’s appetite and if it catches on you do a series. No harm no foul.

I know this might be a hot take, but I still think it would be fun if Gargoyles took place in the MCU.

People responded well enough to the Chip N' Dale movie that went straight to D+. No reason why they couldn't do the same with this.

Yeah but that is a lot cheaper to produce

Seriously. The Awakening alone could be 1 movie.

This franchise is full of myth and they really need to embrace the past & present

How do you figure? There was still a ton of VFX work that went into that on top of it having a large cast and having to pay for rights for non-Disney characters.

The budget was $70 million.

Gargoyles is going to have human sized Gargoyles who are interacting with humans, fighting them, flying.

I'd compare it closer to the TMNT live action film which cost upwards to $150mill.

I'm surprised that the budget for that was only $70 million. I'd have pegged it at over $100M. I guess they saved by not spending the kind of marketing money that goes into a theatrical release.

Yeah, it definitely should have been a movie!

I still hope that we see an animated revival of Gargoyles one day, though!

Have to start reading the comics by Weisman in the meantime!

I'm ditching Disney+ for a while so I'm in a '90s cartoon mood until it expires in a couple weeks. Gargoyles is one of the ones I've put in rotation. The opening arc had no business being this epic. Brought back a lot of great memories.

I was caught off guard when Xanatos gave that “pay a man enough and he’ll dig his way to hell” line in the opening arc. I so didn’t remember them dropping the h-bomb back on the VHS tape.

I also completely forgot all about that episode where Broadway accidentally shot Elisa. That was heavy for a Disney animated series, especially during a time when over on Fox, Spider-Man wasn't allowed to throw a punch.

It aint Gargoyles without Keith David. I imagine he could do Voice & Mo Cap easily enough.

But who would you get to play Xanatos? Like Frakes is Xantatos as much as he is Riker. Oddly enough Frakes would be a perfect fit for Halcyon Renard right now.

Yeah, Keith David could definitely manage mocap. He's not young, but he's not old either. His voice also hasn't changed that much either but it also doesn't really matter much because Goliath is supposed to be centuries old anyway.

As for Xanatos, you know who I would go with? Pedro Pascal. Not really an outside the box choice given how popular he is right now but he could totally play that role and if he were in it that would get more eyes on the project from people who have no idea what Gargoyles is. On top of that, Xanatos isn't a character that needs to be in every episode so you could get away with having a big name actor playing him.

His career won't hinge on a revival of a franchise that's been dormant for nearly 30 years. He has Aquaman 2 for that. :o

I declare it so. After Aquaman, and if he were to fail Gargoyles, it's to movie jail he goes!
