Disney's Tangled

i really enjoyed this movie and i need to get it stat

I bought this movie on Blu-Ray this tuesday, and dang does it look gorgeous. We're watching it at animation club this week! :D

My favorite scene is with Rapunzel and the horse (Maximus) in the forest, everything right after he rips off Eugenie's boot. Their animation is perfect and hysterical, definitely Glen Keane's influence there.

So I saw the film and well...i was very disappointed. The animation was excellent however while watching it it just seemed like a dreamworks film. The songs have been getting so much hype and I dont think they're very deserving, i mean the only two i remember are 'mother knows best' and 'I see the light', and i only remember i see the light because of the amazing "floating lights" sequence. To be honest i prefered the music from 'The Princess and the Frog' alot more it was catchy and fit the film and Disney alot more than Tangled's music. The story was alright it just all seemed a bit forced which is something i think that 'The Princess and the Frog' suffered from as well, and dont even get me started on the villian in this movie she sucked big time. Also, am I the only one who thought that Rapunzel looked like she was too young for Flynn, the girl looked like she was turning 12 or 13.
Overall it was an okay film however I dont think it is deserving of the hype that it gets.

Mother Gothel was, in my opinion, one of the best Disney villains of all time.

Certainly one of the most cunning. She was only thwarted by a repressed memory. If that memory hadn't come back...

Really?...When I think of Disney villains like Ursula, Scar, Jafar, Cruella De Vil, Lord Frollo, The Queen, Hook, and Maleficent, Mother Gothel just doent cut it to me. I take back what i posted earlier she doesnt suck as she has loads of personality but I dont think she matches Disneys other villains.

Well, she's certainly not as black and white as some of the other villains. But I think her villainy can be summed up in one exchange of dialog in the film:

"I love you very much.."
"I love you more."
"I love you most."

Yeah, in retrospect, knowing the outcome of the movie, that exchange of dialogue now seems kind...creepy.

*shivers*

i caught this in theaters i loved it ( : very sweet fun movie very rewatchable

I have it on bluray looks amazing! I also got the 3d bluray need to watch that sometime this week i didnt catch it in theaters in 3d

Add to the fact that when Gothel says "I love you most," she kisses Rapunzel affectionately on top of her head. You know. As in on Rapunzel's hair.

I thought Disney did a HORRIBLE job marketing this film. When I saw it, I thought like most of you, Disney going down the Dreamwork smart-aleck, hip, poop culture-referenced route. What interested me was that despite being computer generated, it had the Disney-style character design. (I later learned of Glen Keane's involvement).

When I saw it in the theater, I was actually surprised when the first song started! And then I realized this was like a classic Disney animated fairy-tale.

I love this movie, easily in my top ten or top five Disney films.

I got the Blu-Ray and yes it looks great. But, the bonus features? I was furious! I was looking forward to a documentary on the making of this film and converting Keane's designs to 3D. What do we get? A 12 minute crap fest of the two stars yuking it up, talking about hair styles of other Disney characters? Seriously? Reminds me of the horrible single disc release Lilo & Stitch got when it first came to DVD. This was back when Eisner was running things and said DVD"s were baby-sitters and mom's don't want bonus features. I had thought that thinking had left once Lassiter took over Disney Animation! :cmad:

Yeah, I didn't even bother looking at the special features. I figured they'd disappoint.

I just saw this movie over weekend and wow I was really shocked at how much I loved this movie. My girlfriend basically forced me to watch it with her and it was pretty fantastic. It is a classic Disney movie but cg instead of hand drawn and it reminded me a lot of Aladdin.

i was surprised at how much i liked this movie. i didn't really care for Princess and the Frog, but Tangled was great. while the Princess and the Frog had tons of culture and heart Tangled had fun, adventure, and comedy in spades. i also loved the look of the movie and would actually love to see all of Disney's fairy tale stories (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc.) re-imagined in CG. i have a great respect for hand drawn animation, but i just love how everything looked in Tangled.

So I watched this with recently, and I would say it's very formulaic, but enjoyable. The Hair glowing effects were really cool.

I hate to admit it, but this made me laugh.

Ug, not intended. Typo. Sorry about that.

That's what I get for rushing out a post and not really proof reading.

I too have the upmost respect for those movies. It's just Tangled really handled the Glenn Keane style so well that you could imagine how this film would have looked if animated traditionally. So, it would be interesting to see those other classics given similar treatment.

Also, the more I hear the songs, the more classic they sound to me. I love "I Got A Dream" (the whole scene had a sort of Monty Python vibe to it) and "Mother Knows Best" has a chance to be classic.

Just watched this again...it's even better the 2nd time.

I saw this yesterday. Really good movie and the animation is beautiful. It really brought me back to the old days! I really hope this made enough money so disney isnt afraid to make more movies like this.

I believe Tangled did quite well on the box-office. So yeah, I hope also that Disney make more films as the same as this.

Didn't Disney say they were done making princess movies?

I think so but what I meant is that Disney should make more movies with the same quality as Tangled.

The Snow Queen was cancelled right after Princess and the Frog because a princess movie didn't make the money The Suits wanted. They blamed the movies failure on the that it was a princess movie. :whatever:

The so called report was that the suits guess that princess movies don't make money anymore, this was all said before Tangled came out. Based on one princess movie! Is it quite possible that Princess and the frog failed on its own because it was just a bad movie? Naw that just makes to much sense, the egos at Disney couldn't agree to that!

So the title for Rapunzel was changed to Tangled, The Suits changed it because they believed a girls name for a movie wouldn't sell based on their results from "Princess" and the Frog. :whatever: The first teaser trailer for the so called retitled movie was was all about Flynn Rider, because they wanted to appeal to the male demographic.

I believe people didn't go see Princess and Frog because not enough people liked it. In the past under Walt, all the top grossing films were the three princess movies, Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, the latter didn't make it's money back because of the over blown budget, but did quite well at the box office for that year. Walt made Cinderella because he knew it was going to be a hit to get his studio out of their post WWII financial slump, from 1942 with Bambi to 1950 with Cinderella throughout those years there was no full animated features. Walt said if we get the women in the theater they'll take their kids and their husbands and their boyfriends and girlfriends. Princess and the frog didn't do that, it was to scary for kids and the story was to sad and seemed a bit unoriginal, the voodoo aspect is not embraced by a Christian society that thinks that is all evil, even if the good voodoo lady uses voodoo, they still think it's evil.

The Suits blamed the Princess aspect, it couldn't of been their well renowned directors John and Ron who actually were to blame for the films lack of success? Nawwww that makes to much sense, their egos would never allow that!

Princess and the Frog fan here and I dont think that any "bad" film gets an 84% critics approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is named the best film of 2009 by Time magazine that just doesn't happen, especially with all the good films that came out that year.

At the time that the film came out I worked at a movie theater and can say that just about every family that went in came out satisfied. I dont even recall anyone trying to get money back on the basis of it being "too scary" or dark, as they did with "Where the Wild Things are", as a matter of fact I remeber quite a few families with young children who came back repeatedly to see the movie and I highly doubt they would have come back to see a film that is "sad, unoriginal, and scary".

On Tangled: Seen the movie a few more times and I've definately warmed up to it I still think its "formulaic" and the songs are lacking but "Mother knows best" is great and "I see the light" is amazing, and yeah the chameleon is cool.
