Django Unchained

The poster is good. Simple but striking.

Am I the only one who still wishes the title for this movie was A Southern?

If the title was actually supposed to be "A Southern?" then i'd be on you with that.

But *is* it a "Southern?" I know Q originally alluded to that, but the pics of the set are pretty clearly "Western" in geography and milieu. Maybe Django travels from the South out West?

Nice poster. I'm a total sucker for anything even remotely saul bass-ish, though.

I prefer Django Unchained. Seems more exciting and revenge-ish.

Tarantino said this film was suppose to be a southern cowboy film.

Pretty much all of Tarantino's movies contain major elements of a Sergio Leone western; as this one is actually closest to that genre, in terms of its physical and chronological setting, it makes sense that it should bear the most hallmarks of the western, whether or not it's a "wild west" movie in actuality or not.

Django Unchained sounds much more badass and unexpected. "A Southern" just sounds lazy.

Agreed, I like the title, I like the poster, I like the entire concept of the movie. I'll be there opening day.

I read the script recently, and it looks like Tarantino has another hit on his hands!

Here's a good write-up and the first official synopsis of the movie. I spoilered it in case anyone wanted to be surprised about the plot, since this is a pretty in-depth summary:
Set in the South two years before the Civil War, DJANGO UNCHAINED stars Academy Award®-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Academy Award®-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (Academy Award®-nominee Samuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival...

Written and directed by Academy Award®-winner Quentin Tarantino, DJANGO UNCHAINED is produced by Stacey Sher, Pilar Savone and Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers are Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Michael Shamberg, Shannon McIntosh, and James Skotchdopole. DJANGO UNCHAINED will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2012, and internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Sounds cool as hell. Definitely getting stoked about this....hope it turns into an even bigger star turn for both Foxx and Waltz.

I don't know, I kind of liked the idea of calling it "A Southern." I just thought it was funny. And it could have spawned a whole slew of westerns set in other parts of the world:

An Eastern
A Northern
A Down Undern
A Russiarn
A South Americarn
A Ugandarn
An Antarcticarn

That synopsis goes into more detail than a normal one. I just love the sound of this though. I really love the idea of Tarantino tackling the dynamic of two very different guys having to work together. Can't wait to see how Foxx and Waltz do with that.

Really love the poster. Tarantino's films usually have great ones. Does anyone know if he is involved in their conception? I imagine a guy like him would want to be involved in all that kinda stuff.

Eh, your characters would just end up quirky commenting each other to death.

Hey, don't judge us based on Ellen Paige and Michael Cera. That's why we sent them over to your side. You can also keep Celine Dion and Justin Bieber.

Why would that be wrong? I've had a crush on her since Juno.

And that crush just skyrocketed after seeing the trailer of To Rome with Love.

hahaha that's what i mean. But she did look hotter and more mature than her other movies, rape scene or not.
