Do onlione applicatrions work?

If the chick said you'd have to apply online, and you want the job, then how about, APPLY...ONLINE.

When the potential employer gives certain requirements for applicants, it's a CRACKING good idea to do what they say, if you really want them to hire you.

Next, when you a.p.p.l.y., no, that doesn't mean "they are going to hire you". It means that you are offering yourself for consideration.

Then, if you sound like you'd be a good fit with the company, they'll probably contact you to let you know that they'd like to hire you.

Now, what's this about "useless posts" ?

should've made that your first post. instead of going into a rant, that really did'nt get anything across:ninja:

Just because you didn't understand his first rant doesn't make the point it contained any less valid.

Do you know any English?

GAH. Aren't you like 21 years old in the engineering field? So that makes you what a Junior? It's about time you forget working at stores like the Winn Dixie and go down to your college and look for interning jobs because some of them do pay and above the minimum wage that I'm guessing WInn Dixie does. Also it might get you interested in a particular field of engineering.

my college does'nt really have anything except for job fairs. thats where most people go for internships. they(the college) offer jobs, but nothing in specific fields of study, unless its like business administration.

Are you sure? Have you asked your professors and there isn't an engineering intern class? Not necessarily a class but it's an elective and they help you find a job.

oh yeah we have that, but they actually wait till your actually going to graduate to help you find a job afterwards. like right when your in you senior year or whatever.I'll look into it. but im not really being picky with a job right now, i need some quick cash. but the interning thing i have to start cracking on, where did you intern at?

You dont want to work for Winn Dixie, trust me.

Actually I interned at a place that had little to do with what I actually started doing.

It was working as environmental engineering intern at this Lysol factory. It paid better than any job I had before that and I was essentially on the internet a lot of the time.

I totally agree. It doesn't matter what you actually do, as long as you get your ass into a place that does engineering. Potential employers really look at this.

I actually didn't realize how important this was until I started talking to my boss. (My boss is super-cool and he's really open with what's going on.) Despite my lack of experience in molecular biology labs, which is where I work now, he hired me because I had worked in other labs, and my supervisors there were more than willing to vouch for my skills. He said that it was tough to judge how dedicated an applicant was to science and research if all they've done was work at Starbucks. This came straight from my boss's mouth.

I was extremely lucky that my parents paid for my tuition, and that our school has a great work-study program so I was able to work as a technician in a lab where the prof was known to write great recommedations. I could have done even more - many undergrads even do research and publish papers, but I was a lazy bum. :oldrazz: I was also extremely lucky that I got my first (very very unpaid) internship at a neuroscience lab (which seriously bolstered my resume) thanks to my biochemist aunt and was able to stay at her house that summer and not have to worry about housing and food. It would have been a lot harder if I had to pay for that, considering I wasn't being paid to work there.

So yes, let your family and friends and profs know that you're looking to intern. Connections can truly get you someplace. Look off-campus, especially for summer internships. Those can really help. A lot of them are unpaid internships, true, but without my unpaid internship and my minimum-wage job in a lab, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am now - a research gig at a nationally-renowned cancer center working in a lab which just received a first-tier NIH grant. My boss is convinced that if our experiments work, we can get it published, and then "be FAMOUS." (I really can't believe my luck, LOL.)
