Do you prefer silence when eating?

I don't expect life to stop for food. Conversations better continue in full force - even if you have food in your mouth.

When I order food that is served at a particular temperature: such as barbecued pork ribs from one of the many barbecue joints in Memphis, or a steak cooked medium rare with a twice-baked potato, or on the other side of the thermometer if I order a banana split or a blizzard from Dairy Queen, I tend to have this crazy notion of "wanting to enjoy the food that I ordered and paid for before it gets to room temperature and is then unappetizing". If that makes me rude, callous, indifferent, or simply an *******, because I don't take part in meaningless drivel, whatever. No conversation can fill one up like hot barbecue ribs, or a nice hot, juicy steak with a steaming twice-baked potato or a cold banana split or blizzard.

The conversation is completely secondary. I came for the food.

I usually specifically put set syndicated shows that I have seen. Like Seinfeld, Family Guy on my DVR, so that I may watch them while I eat. I hate eating & watching new shows. So I guess I like the TV on when I eat.

Castanza couldn't pull that off. What makes you think you could?:cmad:

I'm sure Old Greg pulls it off all the time :D

I like talking when eating, music, TV, whatever. It's only food.

Historically speaking food was nearly always enjoyed in groups or communities. I have no idea why or if that is even relavent but...

I really do enjoy good dinner conversations.

Conversation is all good when I'm eating. As long as the food is good I'm alright. I can enjoy a good conversation over a meal just as much as I can enjoy a quiet meal alone. The one thing that I can't stand though is smacking. I hate smacking with a passion. Why would you even chew with your mouth open?:cmad: If I'm eating around someone that smacks I wait until they're finished, or I try to make things louder by turning up the tv or radio. Smacking is a big annoying pet peeve of mine.

Same here. I hate silence at the dinner table.
