On a board populated with people that appreciate action and sci-fi films, you are going to be hard pressed to find people that will slander the master. He's created some of the most beloved and discussed films on these boards.

I don't think he's overrated. He's done the type of films he's wanted to do, with a heavy attention to special effects. Of course, I believe Guillermo del Toro is more artistic and prolific, but Cameron doesn't need to prove anything anymore.

I don't think he's over rated, but I think people put a little too much faith in the man.

^He's earned his faith.

Yes and no. In some aspects he is, but in other aspects he truly is the best in the world.

Perhaps he is.. but maybe not. Honestly, I never cared about his movies that much (or at all), except the 2 Terminator Movies.

i think the people who trash on Cameron or failed filmed makers or something, there was this idiot i knew failed film maker who always had to say Cameron is overrated..or whatever..

Cameron doesn't just shoot a movie, he will take over someones job on set if there not doing there work to the fullest...he writes for his films, draws the characters, does the fx if he must...he is all over creatively on his films..

He is obviously a perfectionist and maximises everything.

Just watch The Abyss, it stands up today with awesome sfx and visuals.
T2, Aliens.

Avatar is going to utilise his new 3D Camera.

We need innovation, and Cameron is about to bring some.

Maybe just for Titanic but as a whole, no way. Both of the first two Terminators, Aliens and True Lies are incredible movies and are easily some of my favorites. The original Terminator is possibly my favorite film ever.

For the most part I would agree with this.

James Cameron is excellent.

His "Terminator" films and "Aliens" are his best (IMO) and the examples of him in his absolute filmmaking prime.

"Titanic" the film is quite good, though I never once bought into "Titanic" the fad...and that whole thing kind of weathered down the movie for me, so I don't pay as much attention to it.

And "The Abyss" and "True Lies" are just fun!

Even his lesser known stuff like "Xenogenesis," "Pirahna 2: The Spawning" and his documentaries have some interesting camera work and editing, which as we all know Jim has a hand in when it comes to his films.

His "Dark Angel" TV series kicked some ass to (at least in its first season) and it of course brought our attention to a then non-exposed and uber-hot Jessica Alba.

So no, he's not overrated as far as I'm concerned...yeah I sort of see how he might consider himself to be all that, but a little ego never hurts...clearly the man's pretty damn good at his job.

Cameron = :up:

I think True Lies is fun, I love Terminator and Terminator 2, but I love Salvation almost as much. I like Aliens but I think people blow up the first two Alien films to be more spectacular than they are. I thought Titanic was so tedious that I couldn't even make it through it.

I suppose I do think he's overrated to an extent, but he's a very talented filmmaker and I definitely don't consider him to be one of more overrated ones out there.

I wish he directed Spiderman instead of Raimi.
Ugh....did you read about the stuff that was in that atrocious script!? I love cameron as much as the next guy but I don't think he was right for Spider-man. If you think stalker superman was bad in Superman returns then try peeping tom Spidey.

There hasn't been a True Lies movie since. It captured the feel of 1980s R-rated action comedies, and no one has been able to do that since. Pineapple Express came close, but that plot was about weed so of course there would be comedy from that.

I don't think he's overrated, as I've really liked all of the films he's done so far, even Titanic, but from all the stuff I'm hearing about Avatar and his obsession with 3-D, I'm worried he might be getting George Lucas Syndrome.

I'm not worried about that at all. Cameron is one of the few who can put a heavy emphasis on special effects and still have engaging characters that don't get overshadowed by the visuals.

Yeah...the words "James Cameron" and "overrated" should never ever be near each other.
The guy is a master of his craft, a perfectionist, and a true visionary.
I'd like to see any person that calls him "overrated" do something one tenth as good as Cameron's most "average" work.

True Lies is on A&E right now. I reiterate, funnest movie ever.

T2 is one of my fav action films of all time. Terminator is damn good.
Liked Aliens, but I prefered Alien.
True Lies is hella fun.
Never seen Abybss.
Don't care for Titanic.

I don't think he is overrated. I like Eli Roth, but he is overrated and another best example is, M. Night Shamalelenenebluh...

No Cameron isn't. But Titanic is, it's an okay movie. Not a #1 movie of all time deserving movie.

James Cameron loves working with new technology. If he just wanted to shoot films he'd be a hack by now. I wouldn't say he's like the Lumiere Brothers, or Willis O'Brien, but he loves developing new stuff.
