Do you think the majority of people who saw Disturbia realized it was a knockoff?

Maybe it was intended as an homage or a remake but it was still just basically a knockoff.
Evidence of the homage though:

The minute I saw the trailer for the first time, I was like (cough)Rear Window(cough)

it was obviously a knock off....and the writers of rear window werent even given story credit for disturbia, which they obviously deserved. as for the the target audience of this movie, no i doubt they're very proficient in their hitchcock.

Today I've watched Rear Window and all I can say is it's a great movie full of suspence (durng some moments I really was scared), way better than Disturbia, which was good only for the first act.

your not the only, Rear Window was a fantastic movie.

My 15 year old nephew loved the movie and didn't know what a Rear Window was.

You could add several movies to the list of Rear Window knock offs, that doesnt necessairily make them bad. I havent seen Diturbia but a movie like DiPalmas Body Double proves you can make a good entertaining flick from the premise of it.

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I've seen of the trailers and such, Disturbia looks just different enough to not be considered a "knockoff." More like "inspired," I think.
