It’s The 80’s Again: Romancing The Stone & Overboard Remakes

I stand behind my signature, but I would not mind seeing a redo of romancing tho, its one of my fave movies from the 80s, next to Robert's other film BTTF ;).

I don't care for Overboard, but Romancing the Stone, WHY?!

While they're at it, why don't they remake a few other 80's "gems."

Romancing the Remake

What's the buzz on the proposed Stone redo?

There's been talk of Fox remaking their '80s action-adventure classic Romancing the Stone for a few years now, and now the project is reportedly heating up again.

Moviehole claims that the studio is out looking for a director who has a "fresh, exciting take" on how to update Robert Zemeckis' 1984 hit. Robert Luketic, who was attached to direct awhile back, is apparently no longer involved.

Luketic had piqued the interest of Katherine Heigl in the role of romance novelist Joan Wilder, originally played by Kathleen Turner. The duo had worked together on The Ugly Truth. Fox reportedly remains interested in her for the role.

As for the male lead of Jack Colton, played in the original by Michael Douglas, Moviehole says Fox is interested in either Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Gerard Butler (Heigl's co-star in The Ugly Truth) for the role.

Ugh. Not only am I a big fan of the original and think this is yet another terrible remake idea, but Heigl is a terrible actress.

Can't say that this bothers me. The last time I watched Romancing the Stone, I only liked it in fits and spurts, and most of those were in the first half. I care so little about Overboard that I'm not even sure I've even seen the whole thing. I can't imagine I'll be leaping to fix that in the future. The remakes will come and go, and I'll be perfectly content with simply not watching them if I'm not enticed. Simple as that. Some of you should perhaps take a deep breath and try not to get bent out of shape over this. I've realized recently that I'm more tired of endlessly listening to people ***** and moan about remakes than I am hearing about remakes.

But.

Katherine Heigl as a writer? I can't picture her reading a book let alone writing one. Whatever.

Yeah, don't like them remaking it, don't watch the remake. That said I do agree Hollywood is at a point where they don't even attempt to hide the fact they're remaking a movie anymore. I know they've done it since before there was a Hollywood but now it feels so blatant and obvious.

I think Heigl is okay but she's quickly becoming overused and it feels forced we're seeing her in so many romcoms, and not all of them necessarily needed her.
