Personally speaking, in my opinion some of the greatest sequels of all time have ended in tragedy - The Godfather 2, Terminator 2, The Empire Strikes Back...and even though it's not as "great" per se, Batman Returns (I simply love the way the film ends).

And so, in keeping with that tradition, I think it might be an excellent idea to have a somewhat tragic ending in The Dark Knight as well. I believe it'll be an excellent complement to the film's title - dark undertones mesh extremely well with loss and tragedy and sums up very well the nature of Batman's cause that it is mired in both physical and emotional struggles.

What do you think?

I think depending on how much screen time Katie Holmes has in TDK, if in fact she does return, then i think she could be one of the Jokers first victims. Also, if Dent is scarred at the end of TDK, then that would be the tragic ending to the TDK, IMO.

It´s all up to the story. My gut feeling is they´re gonna make an open ending, like LOTR or Matrix Reloaded or POTC2.

dent getting scarred at the end of TDK would be a perfect ending.

All movies whould have tragic endings.

The film should end with the scarring of Dent. That's pretty tragic.

A tragic ending indeed which would open the doorway to the 3rd film,Dark Knight Returns.

The third film should not be called Dark Knight Returns :cmad::mad:

Actually I was counting on the movie having an tragic conclusion involving at least Harvey if not including Rachel as well but more than that this will be a cliffhanger.

I think Empire would be a perfect movie to model in terms of a cliffhanger ending. Matrix Reloaded would be the worst.

Depending about the story, my perfect end could be the wife of gordon killed by the joker, and Dent scarred.

and Batman having sex with 2 supermodels, oblivious to everything that's going on.

Yes, Dent's scarring would be tragic, especially if you set up a close friendship between him and Batman (which would have been easier if they'd put him in Begins like they should have, but oh well).

No!

I want it to end with BB atmosphere, but a bit more like AOTC with feeling of something bad coming.

As we know, TDK will be ended with Batman catching Joker and the beginning of trial. So in 3rd movie there will be trial, on which Joker will be scarring Dent.

So I'd like to see final fight between Batman and 2Face more like very tragic scene. That would work I think.

That'd be great.

It'd be cool if it ended similar to the first part of the Two-Face arc from TAS, with a close up of Harvey's scarred face. Maybe before that, we see Bruce in the cave in anguish over failing his friend.

But yeah, a shot of Two-Face's face, with him leaving the hospital, and the last shot we see is his two-sided coin on the ground, scratched side up. That would callback to the ending of BB with the Joker card.

You can't get more tragic than that. I would also like another rooftop conversation with Batman and Gordon. That was one of my favorite scenes in Begins.

How exactly did Terminator 2 have a tragic ending:confused: Maybe the first one did but not 2.

um...one of the main characters committed suicide?

We're talking about 2 right? Its not like he sacrificed himself to accomplish the mission. They won, and there was no reason for him to be around anymore. Not exactly tragic by my definition. Unless you're talking about the first one, then yeah that was tragic:o

Either Harvey getting scarred or Joker in Arkyum getting a sample of the acid to use against Dent in the next movie from Thorne's men would be a nice touch.

Of course if we were going for a "POTC2" ending than that'd mean either Scarecrow or Rahs would come back, seeing as Barbosa came back in "POTC2."

I disagree completely. What's the point of that?

"Uh, oh! Dent's been scarred by the Joker! What happens next? Tune in 3 or 4 years from now to find out, Batfans!"

It's unnecessary. Each of these films should be their own complete story. Notice how Begins said so subtly that the Joker would be in the next installment? It's not like the film ended with Batman meeting the Joker for the first time. That would be a cliffhanger.

Not only would the scarring of Dent in TDK be unnecessary, but it would take away from the story in TDK. This story isn't about Dent getting scarred and turning into Two Face. That's why Two Face's origin should be left for the third film.

no tragic ending pelase, just have regular subtle ending like THeShape suggested. I dun want the batman movies to get to dark, every movie should tell story which might tie into the next story.
