Documentary On Blacks & Race Stuns Audiences

lol, im going to do that :0

Jeez, it's strange how things appear just the same as before...

Even still, I think a hell of a lot of progress has been made. Of course, more can be made, but after 40 years, we have a lot more black celebrities and both black men and women now in political offices. That has to count for something, right?

I feel ya. My own people really ain't helping much at times, when they keep pushing these images:

And say that these are what "black" is. :cmad:
Ok, see now we're talking about something...

Not that I disregard all the past influences that helped to degrade and berrate my people, but this is WAY more destructive. WHY? Because money talks and makes ignorance "catchy". It's not just that these people allow themselves to be caught up in this kind of new age 'step & fetchin' depiction, but rather that they have NO understanding that NO amount of money can be worth relinquishing of 40 years of freedom fighters GIVING THEIR LIVES to demand RESPECT!

We are minorities, and as much as we cannot have constant negative images being pumped into the minds and hearts of people in this country (and around the world) by the mass or majority. We REALLY cannot afford to be caught DEAD DISRESPECTING OURSELVES. As destructive as the first is, the latter is downright STUPID!

That was kinda sad. We looked at the original study a few weeks back in Psycology when we were looking at perception and power, and it made me wonder if anything had changed. Apparently not.

i do agree that we have made progress.
but if the children still somehow have a negative image of themselves without even experiencing all of the negative things that jade our views as adults that's telling us that there is SOMTHING wrong with the ideas we're feeding our youth.
i just wish she would have asked some white kids too, see how they responded to the doll test.

Nothing has really changed at all , all that really has changed is that people seem find new ways to avoid these issues. This really makes me uncomfortable as I grew up in Apartied South Africa in the 80s, and experienced racism up front :( ( my uncle was a police general and told me horrrible stories about what happend)

If she'd asked white kids, and they'd held up the black doll as 'bad' there would have been outcry.

Jesus. i can't even IMAGINE how difficult ^that^ must have been though.

there already was a bad reaction to the film.
that would have just been the icing on the cake though.

I don't know but you just reminded me of this.
Chasing Amy said:
For years in this industry, whenever an African American character, hero or villain, was introduced - usually by white artists and writers - they got slapped with racist names that singled them out as Negroes. Now, my book, "Whitey-Hating Coon," don't have none of that bullsh't. The hero's name is Maleekwa, and he's descended from the black tribe that established the first society on the planet, while all you European motherf'ers were hiding out in caves and sh't, all terrified of the sun. He's a strong role model that a young black reader can look up to. Cause I'm here to tell you, the chickens is coming home to roost, y'all. The black man's no longer gonna play the minstrel in the realm of comics and sci-fi fantasy. We keepin it real, and we gonna get respect by any means necessary.

Too true. It's getting ridiculous now that some people of other races expect us all to look and act like that, or else our "blackness" is in question. :whatever:

My gf was pushed into a "Minority" extracuricular group by her guidance counselor and the only abuse she recieved was from the Black girls because while she was mixed, white, black and hispanic, she didn't act "black" enough for them, had white friends and dressed somewhat collegic.

This is kind of interesting because I grew up in a fairly big town, that had almost no minority populations at all except Ukranians. There were two black kids in my school, and both of them were expelled by the second year for being disruptive- starting fires, stealing all of that. Apparently, the rate of expulsion for black/mixed kids is about fifty times as high as it is for white kids. Given the stuff they've found with tests like this, it kinda makes more sense.

Hey, don't even get me started on the weirdies of my own race.

Yeah, as disgusting as it can be I do understand why we are so horrible to one another. That mentality was ingrained from slavery and unfortunately some of us are too comfortable in our ignorance to realize that we ARE the minority and (again) as the minority we CANNOT afford any form of seperatism.

Isnt this kinda like how some black men seem to like white woman and visa versa.

oh MAN!
the worst part, the most gut wrenching was when she asks the little girl which one is the bad and she holds up the black doll.
which one is the good and she holds up the white doll.
and then ask which one looks the most like you?
and she doesn't know which one to choose until she shamefully pushes the black doll over to her looking down like she's embarassed that she looks the most like the "bad" doll.
****ing terrible.

That part tore my heart out.......:csad:

Are you referring to the baby doll test?

I see this choice (blk men/ wht women) as being a lot more complex than being explained by just the subconscious pre-programming of society. A LOT of factors play into the choices one puts into selecting a mate. Most of which I would attribute more to experiential influences.

Too True,,,,
Yeah, sorry I was kinda on the soapbox there.

It's just that what we do to ourselves is a much bigger concern for me currently. Again that doesn't say I don't recognize the original topics influences, it's just that the internal destructiveness is extremely distressing.

Every race seems to be really stupid about having to act "white" enough or "black" enough and I think it's the most horrible thing ever. I've lost/not been able to make a lot of white friends because I don't act "white" enough. I was even alienated by a girl who I thought was a really good friend because she said that I "tried to act black." Scuse me for liking hip-hop, r&b and knowing how to dance. Next time I see her I'll try to act purple. :whatever:

I always thought it was easier being asian...since you could blend in with any group.

Well that's how I felt anyway. :o
