im very curious about this, because it seems the majority like the first two films, which i dont think resemble the comics at all. there the simplistic hollywood one track directors vision. and it seems people prefer this. so again, im just wondering what people like in the comics, or what comics compare at all to the first two movies. as well the third movie, same thing. just comic to screen translation discussion.

I dont. I just have a graphic novel on the Dark Pheonix. Not sure if it counts as a comic.

I was an avid reader growing up all the way until a few issues into Morrison's New X-Men run. Tried to get into Astonishing but couldn't make it to the store on a regular basis. But I have a pretty X-tinsive collection, one might say.

Most of my knowledge comes from the saturday morning cartoon, but i have looked up certain stories on the internet (phoenix saga, dark phoenix saga), and i do have the first seven issues of Ultimate x-men

i read the x-men comics i have for a long time. my personal favorites r of course the dark phoenix saga, days of future past, and house of m, i currently read uncanny x-men but ive read most of the major x-lines out there. i also religously follow ultimate x-men and cant wait to see singers take on it.

i know x3 was more like the x-men comic books..wit more tragedy and more action and over the top scenes and that was sik but i enjoyed x2 alot more because although it was more realistic and not much like the comics, it was well thot out and cud be viewd as an alternate universe (like the 616, or ultimate universe) i call it the movie-verse and thats where all the comic book movies i see go. there alternate takes on material that is farmiliar to us. i think most do agree that x3 was a great conclusion and i loved it but x2 is better imo.

x2 was based off a comic storyline featuring stryker cept in the comic he was a religous madman and i think setinels came in somewhere ...like i said its similar but different and it works on screen. basically the movies r more realistic versions of the comic

Just the old cartoon. And the movies..

I do know there are allot of different Marvel Universes.

I just accept that the movieverse is a different one again.

In defense of it its usually simplistic for a reason. The complications of comics often are uneeded and tied up in endless fictitious and cartoon concepts. Why do that when you can tell it straight forward without phoenix travelling through space fighting aliens?

I read the comics. but I also understand that there will be differences between comics and Film.

Those films, however resemble the comics much more than this film. The X2 actually follows Claremonts famous story "God Loves, Man Kills". Singer's films are quiet a divergence yes, but for the most part he got the heart of the characters. Xavier, Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Colossus (despite deminished role) to name a few. Ratner's film, for whatever reason, more or less steps on every Marvel character involved. Going so far as to change powers (Callisto, Psylocke), character (Juggernaut, Wolverclops, Storm, Magneto, Phoenix, Trask, Rao, Warren Worthington III and II, and Rogue), and it doesn't even follow a plotline resembling anything unlike X2. I will say X1 followed nothing either, but by and large characters like Wolverine, Cyclops, Magneto, Xavier stood out as comic book likenesses.

I've read some of the ultimate. But I mostly like x-men beause of the 90s cartoon and the Marvel cards I collected for years. I still have them in the basement somewhere. Back in the day, I took care of them like how golum takes care of the one ring. Reading every card with deep interest, making sure they were nicely kept in plastic card holders. Good grief, all that over pieces of cardboard. lol.

i still have my comic cards out, in folders, my friends bicker over things and i just throw the 'facts' in the middle of em.
does anyone know if they conitnued with those? is there still a set every year?
i stopped back in '94 unfortunately...with fleer ultra?

Only read a few comic books... but I've seen the cartoon shows.

Not anymore, but outside of Superman and other assorted DC books, I grew up on X-Men, particularly X-Factor. They were some of the first Marvel comics I was ever subscribed to. Got very much into them during the launch of X-Men #1 (still have all those freaking covers), and was subscribed to every book, save Exacalbur, all the way up and through the Age of Apocalypse (in which I added Excalibre to keep up with the storyline).

Stopped with all the books somewhere around Onslaught, as I just didn't enjoy them anymore. My bias towards DC has only grown more and more since then, but I've considered picking up X-Factor because the thought of a book with that title, the characters involved, and the words "Written By Peter David" all put together just make me feel nostalgic. If it weren't for my lack of funds, and the relaunch of Wonder Woman and JLA on the horizen, I probably would.

As for the changes from the comics to the films, they didn't really bother me, including what's found in this one. It's probably because I was never a huge fan though. I suppose if I had more of a vested interest in the source material, or in one of the characters who got screwed (Cyclops), it would. As it is though, I enjoyed each film for what it was, changes or not.

I read a lot of comics. I read Uncanny, X-Men, Astonishing, Wolverine, New Avengers, now Civil War which is awesome and I think that's it on the Marvel side, on the DC side I read JLA, JSA, Superman/Batman, Justice and Infinite Crisis (just ended).

I read many X-Men comics such as: Astonishting X-Men, X-Men, The End: X-Men: Men & X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Deadly Genesis, Ultimate X-Men. I thought that X3 was better then X1 and X2 because it resembled the comics. In X1 & 2 Storm couldn't fly, Jean couldn't use Cerebro, Angel and Beast weren't original X-Men, and other stupid things. There is more action now that it resembles the comics.

ive been reading x-men comics my whole life and i thought the first 2 movies were good but the 3rd one sucked

If all it takes is action to make it resemble the comic then you never actually bother to read the comic. The comic has characters. It is not a powersfest that everyone makes it out to be. The reason the original Phoenix Saga, the thing this movie was suppose to be based on, was so popular was because of the story. I could care less if Phoenix destroyed star systems or mililtary convoys, the point was her love was so strong for Scott and the X-Men that she sacrificed herself rather than allowing the being to consume her. It was a story so epic, it had love, drama, relationships, character development and yes action. But the action is not what made it immitated, repeated and remembered for 30 years (or else Onslaught would not be quietly retconned out of out minds) it was the story and the characters. People here seem to forget X-Men is about the characters.

i agree.

to me x3 felt like the halle berry Hugh Jackman movie it totally betrayed the comics

Well, I forgive Hugh, because he is channeling Wolverine! Good casting on him.

X-MEN- was an original Origin story.
X2: X-MEN UNITED: was an original weapon X story, as well as an adaptation of God Loves Man Kills
X3: The Last Stand- was an adaptation of the cure, and the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Pretty simple.
