I think this Doom is the only Doom we are getting. And I think he is done after Secret Wars. I don't see RDJ sticking around after these are over and I don't think some kind of "real" Doom is emerging to be a Loki type threat. I am very certain this is all we are getting

If he is truly playing Victor Von Doom and they put in the work to make him unrecognizable (out of the metal mask) a la Colin Farrell with the Penguin then I can live with it.

If this Doom is a Tony Stark variant though it will greatly disappoint me.

If they do away with Doom and his connection to the Fantastic Four and Richards, I will be greatly disappointed. If they make it about Peter having to deal with a guy who looks like his mentor, I will also be disappointed.

On its own, I don't hate the casting even though I find it lazy. I can't eliminate the idea that I will like it. Maybe I will. I am deeply concerned by it though because it feels ultra desperate.

When Downey was first cast as Iron Man, I thought it was an inspired choice, and it ended up working great. I don't think this is bad casting but it just gives me pause. I really need to see it to be convinced how they will approach this.

The best possible actor alive for Doctor Doom is Daniel Day Lewis full stop.

The other names being thrown around Javier Bardem, Cillian Murphy would have been great runner ups.

I still don’t get why they cast RDJ as DooM but did not have the good sense to keep John Krasinski. Like really Marvel?!?! Both he and his wife were ready to be the faces of the MCU.

Also what will be the reactions of Thor, Hulk, and others close to Tony upon seeing Doom? That is going to be something awkward to explain away. Please don’t force them to crack jokes about it (unless it is Deadpool of course).

To answer the OP question, I will reserve judgment until the first cameo appearance of Doom and eventually a more substantial appearance than a cameo in Doomsday.

To me the casting doesn’t fit and make sense and they should have went with a new actor for doom. This is the only marvel news I am worried about. Everything else has got me excited.

I would prefer someone else/someone new for the role.

Having RDJ as Doom is like some soap opera twist done via multiverse.

But I still have to see the film to see if the character is written well even if he's not comic accurate. Most villains in the mcu aren't really faithful to the comics.

Yes. As the first incarnation of Doom, absolutely.

That story-line only works after Doom and Iron-man are well established characters.

Using it now means we don’t get Dr. Doom - one of the most iconic characters in comic book history.

And Doom’s primary connection should be to Reed Richards, not Tony Stark.

My biggest fear is Marvel actually thinks this is clever: “Well they’re both geniuses who make suits of armor to give themselves powers … why they’re basically the same thing just one is good and one is evil.”

😬 😬 😬
This, 100%. If RDJ had shown up as Doom as a cameo in Multiverse of Madness or something along those lines as a one-and-done appearance everyone would have been losing their minds over it. Making him the main villain of Avengers 5 and probably 6 too is just...bleh.

It is possible he puts on a voice and never comes out of the mask
RDJ would love to do a whole Marvel movie, making his Marvel money, without having to leave the ADR booth

He saw Spader get to do a little work in the pajamas and he got jealous lol
And RDJ won't even necessarily have to do the body mocap for Doom, let a stunt man do it

Now whether Disney would see a worthy return on its investment in this, that seems more questionable
They want his face on screen

Yeah
If they had presented all the same stuff at Comic Con, and announced just about anyone else as Doom, this would've been an A+ presentation.
Instead I give it a C, maybe C+

Of Fantastic Four, I'm sure. While the cast of FF looks fine, I couldn't necessarily say that those names will put butts in seats. Maybe Pedro Pascal, but that's it. But kind of like the Beast appearance at the end of The Marvels- not the best comparison, I know- if word slowly got out to the general audience that 'Hey, Robert Downey Jr. shows up in Fantastic Four as a different character!,' then you can bet that will be a draw for people to see the film.

Even if the film ends up very good or very bad, having Downey show up will get people's attention, even if they have to watch some leaked clip of the scene on YouTube or Twitter.

I’m worried for the MCU Blade movie

If they wanted a familiar face, Mads Mikkelsen was right there. Yeah, he's been fan cast in the role many times, but I think many of us can agree that he was wasted in Doctor Strange. Plus, the man did express interest in Doom around the time that Noah Hawley's Doom film was announced.

“Yeah, it’s always interesting. They are experimenting with doing some of the villain’s stories as well. Let’s see if they do that. I’m not familiar that they’ve done it with anyone yet. They haven’t done it with The Joker [and] they haven’t done it with The Penguin. So we’ll see when that day comes.”

It could've just been in response to being asked, but whether for Hawley or someone else, I think he'd have been open to it. Plus, now that the door with the multiverse has been blown wide open, I think more in fandom would be receptive to Mikkelsen versus Downey Jr.

I had my heart set on Cillian Murphy he probably would have never had done it but i wanted a fresh face in the MCU

this is lazy and desperate I hope it works out but my excitement is non existent
same here. I may be in the minority here, but I also didn't really like Deadpool 3 either so my overall interest in the MCU is just going down.

I had a blast with Deadpool 3 but this news just killed my excitement that's another thing to take shine from your current movie on opening weekend with such a divisive announcement
it's crazy how much they step all over themselves [disney]

I dunno if they planned to do it on purpose but it just so happened that SDCC took place this past weekend. that's where the announcement happened, right?

According to Jeff Sneider, even though he's been attached since at the earliest May, the deal didn't finalize until this past week. So they probably wanted to announce it at SDCC but there probably was a chance it wouldn't if they were still negotiating.

Don't worry. It's never coming out anyway.

I think if they can't figure it out, they need to give up on Blade. Maybe revisit it later if someone comes up with a good idea. I don't want a half-assed, half-hearted Blade movie.

Now, do I think Marvel could do basically a Marvel Knights line of movies if they want? With more mature stories, lower budgets, and more intense thematic subject matter? Yes, but even a movie like Deadpool & Wolverine feels like a bit of a special anomaly.

But I think there could be a place for like a Marvel Knights line of pictures where Blade could live. And these movies should all be like $100 million at most and have R ratings.

I don't get the sense the Doom news really hurt Deadpool & Wolverine. They had a screening for the movie at Comic-Con before the Marvel Studios panel. Seems like they capitalized on the popularity of Deadpool & Wolverine if anything. I think it would've been better if it was spaced out a little bit more, but I mean, you can't argue with the results. If Deadpool & Wolverine under-performed like Dead Reckoning Part 1. it'd be a better argument. It didn't.

I think they should give up on Blade for the time being and focus on the sequels (Avengers, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Shang-Chi) first. They are also developing the X-Men reboot right now, and the more new projects they develop at the same time as Blade, the more likelihood Blade won't progress. This movie should have been out by last year.

I would like to see a Blade Mcu movie similar to how Marvel Studios rebooted Hulk, Spider-Man and now Fantastic 4. But its been 5 years since they announced the reboot.

OK Stark became DrDoom in an alternate universe in comics. Many people dont know this and many would be shocked. So he would be Doom in an alternate universe in movies MCU too

Personally I dont like idea of a famous character becoming another famous character about comics
About MCU, I dont like this choice of not having Doom and F4 in 616 earth prime!! And dont like Stark as Doom whether in comics or in movie
