The Amazing Spider-Man Does anyone else get an empty feeling from this movie?

IMO Maquire in Spiderman looked very much like the way John Romita drew him in the early comics

Gafield looks just like the Ditko Peter Peter and is slender like the Ditko Spidey (not stocky like the Romita Spidey) and seeing as the Ditko era is my favorite era of Spidey that suits me just fine.

so what you are saying is that there are various ways Peter/Spidey was interpreted and each one is valid?

This is true, but for me personally Garfield matches my idea of PP/Spidey far closer than Maguire. With that said I'm not about to sell the original trilogy blu rays.

damn I wish I still had mine...I sold my dvd collection to move to LA:csad:

Only empty thing is going to be my pockets after so many theater tickets.

So true! Has much more emotion and i think is much better quality acting wise than any marvel film so far...
I prefer it over Iron Man...heck I liked it more than the Avengers...thats just me though...I dont understand some of the hate for this film...but hey...its going great with the public...its selling well...and we're getting a sequel...so frankly I dont really care to try understanding the random hate...I get to see a sequel of my favorite spidey movie yet :)
You too?

That makes three of us.

I prefered the emotion and depth of ASM to Avengers but when it comes to action Avengers takes it, overall I thought ASM was a better 'movie'.

I figured out what it was missing. Harry.

Think about it. Pete's got no friends.

Exactly my point (in a completely different thread though, lol).

Peter's described as a loner. No Harry was just a way to distance themselves from SM1 i think.

It's an empty and forgettable film.

Pretty sure everyone is going to get the boot after how the movie preformed. I'd say the problem lied most with Webb than the screenwriters.

Uh...what?
Marc Webb is the problem?
....
Just no. If anyone is the problem it's Sony.
They're the ones that probably decided to cut a chunk of this movie out.

I really enjoyed this origin moreso than the one Sam presented. On the whole, I like the approach the film took. If I had to criticize it, I felt
Stacey's death was premature
. So no, it didn't feel empty.

I felt the movie left some parts out. One good example would be the SWAT Lizards. But nonetheless, I still think it's a great movie.

I don't feel like the SWAT lizards part was a plothole..

Connors was in immense pain in his first transformation, and that took a long time to happen. Whatever the formula used for the SWAT lizards was, it didn't take a long time for them to transform, in fact, they transformed remarkably fast. I imagine that they would be in tremendous pain.

Not to mention, I don't think that The Lizard was actually looking for the SWAT team to infect, it seemed more like they had an idea of where he was located and was sent to take him down.

I don't think there was anything "empty" about TASM. It will only feel pointless if the sequels aren't very good.

Connors transformation taking long may have been because he had to grow a limb first

The ending of this film really is making me look forward to the sequel. Man I can't wait.

This movie was a big disappointment.

Here's what they got right:

This Peter talked a bit more nerdy.
The web shooters
Gwen Stacy
Peter started out catching small time bad guys and leaving them for the police (This was really only done half right)
I do like the ominous feel of Oscorp Tower, even knowing what's coming
The spider's origin makes good sense of the web formula for the shooters, but not for the origin of his powers

What they got wrong:

Everything else lmao
Uncle Ben's death. Why change that? Just redo it a little better
No wrestling match
They butchered the origin. Raimi's was much better.
The Lizard should NOT have been in this one
Peter wasnt cocky in the beginning in the comics
He became a martial arts master from the spider bite apparently
Those 1st person sequences were stupid
Every one of the main characters knew his identity by the end of the movie
The city itself (the people) played almost no role in this film

It seemed as though they were willing to butcher the story just so they wouldnt have to repeat any of the things Raimi got so very right in his SM1. I wouldnt have cared to see some of the same things redone, because they are true to the story. I honestly hope they dont make a part 2. Give it 15 years or so and try again, but if they're going to redo the origin, at least be true to the story. There's a reason why Spidey is so popular.

I agree with Stone---Dunst
But IMO I preferred the others.
add to that
James Franco
Willem Dafoe is way better than Rhys Ifans
J.K. Simmons perfect portrayal of JJJ

hell even the bit players in
Bill Nunn as Robbie Robertson
Elizabeth Banks as Betty Bryant

to me all of these elements add to why I feel this movie was below Spider-man

I basically agree with you (although I didn't care for the portrayal of Robbie).

I was hesitant about this movie until I saw everyone saying that Garfield was how Peter/Spidey should be. This was an area that could be improved. So I looked forward to that aspect.

Honestly, I didn't see it. He came off jerky a lot of the times. Some of the quips while Spidey worked. But a lot of them, notably with the car thief, seemed juvenile.

On the whole, I think the Raimi movies got it more "right" than this one (and I have problems with the Raimi movies).

Cut and deleted scenes. Other than, nothing else.

I think the empty feeling comes from the following:

A) Too soon for a reboot, everyone still has the last trilogy in their minds, let's face it. So there is the shock factor, to get used to it as the new franchise.

B) Too much Spider-Man at night scenes.

C) Very little comic relief, this movie was mostly dark and had Peter as an introvert.

However, I believe it was well made, with great intentions, and was the First Class of it's franchise. Hopefully spawning great sequels, more daytime scenes, and an evolved Peter Parker where he is more upbeat.

This is my interpretation of "something missing."

Uncle Ben's death. Why change that? Just redo it a little better

And that's what they did. They re-did it. But this time Peter shopwed some emotion beyond two tears.

No wrestling match

Okay, but what's the real need of this?

They butchered the origin. Raimi's was much better.

You mean Uncle Ben was actually killed by Sand Man, not the muggler (so it didn't matter if Peter let him escape to begin with), he commited a lot of other crimes but peter let him off?

The Lizard should NOT have been in this one

Why exactly?

Peter wasnt cocky in the beginning in the comics

So? This is an adaptation. In every adaptation of a comic book that has been out there for decades they choose elements from different eras.

I don't remember web shooters being organic or spiders being genetically altered in the first comics either. Or any comics if I'm not mistaken.

He became a martial arts master from the spider bite apparently

And acquired fantastic balance and strenght too.

Those 1st person sequences were stupid

You mean subjective camera? How so? Because it made you look the swinging through Spider-man eyes? That is stupid?

Every one of the main characters knew his identity by the end of the movie

You mean like dozens of people in a train did in SM2, along with MJ and Dr. Octopus (because Peter decided to show his face to the villiain there)?

The city itself (the people) played almost no role in this film

Basically everyone in the movie is people from the city. That said, what else needed to be shown. We saw one of those people being so grateful because Spider-man saved his son he later helped the hero back.

It seemed as though they were willing to butcher the story just so they wouldnt have to repeat any of the things Raimi got so very right in his SM1. I wouldnt have cared to see some of the same things redone, because they are true to the story. I honestly hope they dont make a part 2. Again. Sam Raimi. Sand man. You know. Or do you have to wait untill the third movie to butcher the origin?
