Nathan said:Before he even left the atmosphere there were like 4 big Krystals of Kryptonite growing out of the bottom of the Island in front of his face. And a scene later they show that the Kryptonite has even almost reached his hands before giving the final push.
There was so many Kryptonite in close proximity, he should have lost his strength immidiately and plummeted back to earth with the entire Island.
If anyone else has brought this idea up, I don't remember it. It is a good question though.sf2 said:perhaps those are mutated kryptonites... not so powerful... you know... like FOS built out of ice but those ain't really ice.
I agree with sf2 that the Kryptonite in the makeup of the island is a diluted/mutated form so not a spowerful as "pure" K, thus it has some weakening effect but not as much as pure K.....with that in mind, remember that Lex had a large piece of "pure" Kryptonite in his coat pocket which would weaken Superman so that he can be beat by him and his henchmen. So you have a combination of pure kryptonite being withing feet of him and the whole island being permeated by weakened, but a great amount, of Kryptonite.Nathan said:Well, they were powerful enough that Superman was unable to defend himself against 3 normal men. Yet he manages to lift the Island into space with a little shard of real Kryptonite stuck in his side.

Showtime029 said:It depends on what incarnation you are refering too, Chris Reeve's Superman had a big ball of Kryptonite hanging from his neck and he was paddling water pretty good.
I don't like that their was a shard in his side, wasn't really needed, it was enough that he was lifting NK riddled with watered down Kryptonite in my opinion. They should have just cut the shard.
It weakened him. As far as I know...no one (actually connected to the Superman Comics or movies) ever said that that even a tiny amount would kill him (or kill him in a relatively short time)...they say it weakens him, lessens his powers, makes him more vulnerable to outside things (such as being shot or stabbed and having things actually penetrate his body)...so, he was stabbed, a piece was left in his body, he was weakened and almost drowned, then most of it was removed, he was still weak, got a resurgence of power from the sun, exerted himself to lift the island, and then finally succumbed to the influence of the "shard" left inside of him.DogofKrypton said:Except he had a piece of "pure" Kryptonite inside his body. As you say...whatever works for you.NateGray said:Umm sorry that just doesn't work for me glad it does for you but that is one heck of a weak excuse.
In almost every superman ever written or made into TV or movie he is made weak and helpless by Kryptonite yet in SR we are supposed to just throw that out the window???? Even in the face of facts from the movie where he was so weak to even defend himself mere minutes earlier....
Thanks I will stick with hypnosis and white washing the plot hole parts of the movie from my brain.... since the more I think about the movie the more of them I can find seems its chocked full of plot holes and inconsistencies....

well the same thing happened in Superman: the Movie...he was wearing a huge chunk of kryptonite that prevented him from even getting out of the pool, yet 1 minute later he's smashing through the roof of Lex's underground place......WITHOUT any recharging from the sun...NateGray said:Even in the face of facts from the movie where he was so weak to even defend himself mere minutes earlier...
Thus my saying that the history of Kryptonites' effectiveness has varied with all mediums it is used in.DorkyFresh said:well the same thing happened in Superman: the Movie...he was wearing a huge chunk of kryptonite that prevented him from even getting out of the pool, yet 1 minute later he's smashing through the roof of Lex's underground place......WITHOUT any recharging from the sun...

NateGray said:Umm LMAO the Kryptonite was NOT stuck in him in STM nor was he stabbed with it in the back.
Many versions show once the Kryptonite is away from him he regains his strength almost instantly.
