Just look at the way it was handled in Avengers, SHIELD contacted everyone when they realized they were outgunned. Everyone didn't just come together. Banner was brought in by Black Widow, Fury brought in Cap. However, Coulson originally failed to bring in Iron Man, only after he was sufficently intrigued. Thor came on his own. So really without SHIELD being involved they might not come together. I doubt Iron Man will go looking for Banner or Cap in the next movie when he facing an immediate threat, but when you have SHIELD's resources you can contact them pretty quick.
Throughout the movie it was clear that Tony wanted Bruce to come work for him at Stark Enterprises. But by the time Iron Man 3 comes out, Bruce will probably have quit due to all the sexual harassment that occurs at that place.
I don't see it as an issue personally...it's just like the comics, there are plenty of self contained stories. They don't even need to explain why "enter name here" isn't showing up to help. There is no need to.

LOL Now they need to include a scene in the next Iron Man movie where Tony emails the rest of the Avengers and gets their Out of Office auto responses.

I don't think its a issue for hardcore fans, but your casual/General audience it may throw some confusion. However; I don't think its enough to really worry about.
I agree mostly that it's a non-event, provided the threat level is localized and the time frame short. Or that it really makes sense the hero wouldn't/couldn't call for help.
I also think that Marvel could quite possibly link everything in the manner of a main baddy influencing events in each individual movie in order to keep them separated...
DEFINITELY keep that massively subtle, if that's the way they went. Just enough that most might miss the 'it', but that someone, somewhere 'got' the 'it' and opened a thread on SHH
They could just conveniently say that during the time of the solo films that each character was busy with their own crap or located somewhere far off with no means of being contacted by anyone....and they could also always say that during the periods between Solo sequels and the Avenger Sequels, that that some of the group members actually did help out during those periods, just to establish that they did call on each other once in a great while.
My point is, it's all about story. Even though characters are in teams they are always handling their own problems and issues in their own books. Sometimes the Avengers are out busy on other missions. So there you go.
Hm, I think people are missing the real issue here.
How does the Marvel universe go forward? Ignore the superheroes.
What's the aftermath of the Battle for New York? I mean, giant alien space whales. Giant gaping portal to another universe. Gods, the Hulk, Empire-state-lightning-conductor.
Think about the entire premise of Watchmen's grand evil scheme;
to bring about world peace by annihilating New York in a giant explosion of wet alien blood and tentacles.
Surely this is a reference point post Avengers? The entire world is in a different place.
It would be like a fukashima in the USA, wrapped up with the most sensational discovery in the history of the universe (we're not alone), and throw in some 9/11 undertones.
If they just go back to the way things were, it'll make the entire premise of these movies disposable. Something huge has happened, where do we go from there?
The thing I HATED about The Dark Knight is that the consequences of the previous movie just weren't even there.
I know the Marvel Universe is an entirely different ball game (don't go there. Please, lets just not...) but the thing that would really 'transcend the genre' would be if these films really deal with the consequences of their events. Not in a big, weighty crisis sort of way - but I really want to see if they have the balls to shift the universe of these characters in response to the fantasy that they're creating.
I do imagine that if something doesn't genuinely affect the average human being, they will maintain their everyday lives.
I forsee (same as in comics) cults worshipping Thor (maybe have some minor unnamed religious scuffles)?
Maybe some (very small, localised) social degrading due to some thinking the world is going to end?
More superhero's/villians coming out of the woodwork, since the general population is now aware of them (via Avengers) - Mentions are made on news etc
Governments creating more 'sci-fi divisions to counter each other (Avengers being based in the USA may be seen as a USA team etc). Arms race all over again.
But on the main? I think the general man will wake up on Monday and go to work. Unless maybe they work in the NY area the Avengers just played in
I think Marvel will be pretty mindful of the scale of whatever the threat is for any given hero. Avengers does establish the team has existing to stop threats against the world, so maybe they just avoid something that big for CA and Iron Man. A good writer should be able to craft a story wherein Captain America is the best man for the job and having others with him would only complicate his mission. That said, I do think they need to address this question in some way within the story.

Without a doubt; heck, it's the reason why the level of danger (the scale) was so condensed in certain cities/periods/durations in the previous films.
The NM attack by the Destroyer took place in less than a day, hardly time for someone like IM to go all the way there to help should he had been available tot help.
Steve had the biggest level of threat in the solo films and that's because most of the Avengers weren't even born yet.
Hulk had that contained incident in NYC that took place within a hour's notice.
I suspect there will be some minor cross overs. As for the results of what happened to New York, all i have to say is get ready for the Super Hero registration program.
