Superman Returns Don't turn your back on Superman.

But all people here know how to do is cut everything down, and be negative.
Dude, that's not necessarliy true. I hated the movie, but I can't shut up about a movie when it's really good and am more than willing to praise the hell out of it.

It was just a horrible movie and saying so doesn't mean that you're always negative, it means that you have a higher understanding of what it takes to create a well-made, consistent movie.

No director anywhere will EVER be able to please even the majority of people on this or any other fan boy site when it comes to Superman, and you know what? They shouldn't. Hardcore fans should NOT be setting the tone for any comic book movie.

Singer did the right thing. He used the same formula that Donner did back in 1978 to RE-INTRODUCE the character to the world, after a 20 year absence. He wanted to tell and origin story withOUT going into the origin of the character, and he achieved that result with flying colors.

So what Singer did the right thing by making this movie a complete rehash of the first Superman movie and not introducing any real new ideas? Maybe singer will do the right thing in next movie and make it a rehash of Superman II.

ask yourself this..... was SR a better movie than FF4? Spiderman 1? X-Men 1 & 2? Hulk? All those other Marvel movies (Daredevil, etc.)? The original Batman franchise? The answer, in my opinion, is yes. So what are we really complaining about? Superman Returns is a decent movie.... i'm holding it up there with the original Superman (go back and watch it -- not as good as you think) and just a shade under Batman Begins and Spiderman 2... both of which are seriously flawed films. I'm still waiting for a Batman villian to not try poisoning the city, how original was that? I'm also still waiting for a climatic third act... the movie simply didn't have one. As for Spiderman 2, how unorignal can you get? We're all complaining that Singer ripped off Superman 1... well at least he ripped off his own franchise.... Rami ripped off Superman 2 of all films and gets hailed as a god. Come on, i was laughing at it in the theater... but the movie was one hell of a crowd pleaser.

maybe we shouldn't hold comic book movies to the same standards as other movies. There hasn't been a comic movie made (ever) that'd i'd ever dare compare to the original Godfather or 2001, etc, etc. Just a thought...

this is the most truthful tghing ive read in the past few day!!!

I do think that a few Superman fans are jumping ship because of the boxoffice numbers, it's sad but true. Me, I was bashing just about everything about the movie before it came out and still haven't found a good reason to spend 6.50 to see it.

The sign of a truly biased hater. Thanks, now it is obvious to everyone. Nothing worse than someone bashing something they've never seen.

I stil haven't found a good reason to take anything you babble out seriously.

To be fair, my expectations were very hard to meet. I expected the GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME.

The Spider-Man no more story happened 20 years before Superman II, in the comics. Spider-man II did not rip off anything. Batman Begins, the only similarity it had with the first Batman movie is that they had villains who using chemicals to poison the city (but for different reasons), besides that the movies were very different. Almost everything in Superman Returns was ripped off from the orginal.

I highlighted the important fact in this post.

It's amazing how many people are acting like someone just killed their puppy. For christ sake...is NOBODY allowed to have a different opinion anymore? Some people loved it, some people hated it, some people thought it was OK. Why should that piss anybody off? How does it effect your opinion?? It shouldn't. All these people coming in here saying "If you don't love this movie you aren't a true fan" or "You should support this movie cause it's epic and it's good" don't seem to understand that is just THEIR opinion and in no way represents everyone. Give it a rest already and stop worrying about everyone else.

Seriously, I feel like I'm on TheForce.net when the PT came out. I heard the same exact arguments. That's right...I'm comparing you all to Star Wars nerds. :p :p

everyone needs to realise something

if you like the movie, you like the movie, if you hate it, you hate it.

it isint a war, the people who differ from you arint idiots or beneath you for thinking differintly. personaly, i dont understand why the movie is receiving so much flack, i thought it was BETTER than spiderman 2. and now that i say that, people who disagree are going to have a small buzzer go off in the back of their head that tempts them to think im uneducated or that i have no understanding of what makes a good movie. turn that temptation off for a second and just listen. what i think, should not matter to you, it doesint change you in any way. i am dissapointed that the movie isint being recieved as well as id hoped, as im sure your dissapointed that it didint live up to your standards. how about we stop the hatrid and over exageration and try discussing what could be done to make it better for as many viewers as possible?

The whole problem with debating the film is the people who love the film can't understand why a Superman fan would hate it, and vice versa!!

And nobody wants to discuss there reasons for which side there on, they just want to be little jackoffs about it, so it in turn makes me people like me act like a d^ck!

I think this was an awesome tribute to the original. I was thoroughly impressed with how Singer grabbed what essentially transpired about 20 years ago and ground it in modern day while preparing it for whats to come. I hope people don't kill the potential here.

Tribute seems like a fancy word for rehash. God forbid Singer could created some new ideas.

I second that...

Yep. So, I liked the movie. Sorry, guys. I can't join the Hatewagon.

Good for you. It great that you got the movie you wanted!

And Singer will get some new ideas for the sequel. Now the sequel should all be his own & not a tribute. ;)

I_See_Spidery, why you still hang out here if you don't want to see the movie & don't even like Superman? It kinda silly to hang out where you don't like a character & not plan to see the movie at all, don't you think? :o

Fair enough, but with the potential he's shown us with the first two Xfilms do you really think he just served you yesterdays leftovers just cause he lacked the vision to start something new? Is it so hard to believe that this might be the beginning of something epic? I'd like to see how he brings some of Superman's colorful rogue's gallery to life. And when I say bring to life I mean do them justice. Not the S&M version of Juggernaut we saw in X3.

the worst part of the suit,no explantion, second worst, the cape looked like a poncho.

Those who loved the movie can't understand why people would hate it...

But people who hate the movie can understand why people loved it - because they don't realize "what could have been" and don't feel a disappointment and loss of wasted potential. People who hate the movie feel that people who love it are settling for a compromise and that is a bit sad to them.

I guess I can agree to that, somewhat.

The reason why I loved the movie was because in my opinion it was a good movie. Was it great? Can't say I'll let you know after I see it for the 2nd time tomorrow.

Was it the ultimate Superman movie, the one i've been dreaming about since I was a kid? HELL NO!

But in my eyes, it got more right than it did wrong and as the 1st Superman movie in the new age of comic book movies, i'll give Singer and co. the benefit of the doubt in the hopes that they'll have something much better the 2nd time around.

So yeah I guess to an extent you can say that i'm 'settling'...I still loved the movie, though.
