Superman Returns Don't turn your back on Superman.

Was it the ultimate Superman movie, the one i've been dreaming about since I was a kid? HELL NO!

See, this strikes me as unfair in that people are assuming people had their expectations raised to unbelievable limits. Yes, some did I'm sure. However, LOL...I'm a SW fan (as I a sure many else are). I did see the prequels. So, if there was ever any doubt that something might not be what it was when you were a child... well then those three films confirmed it (at least for me).

Still though, they still had the ticks and beats of the old films (characters). Of course, it was not perfect it was not the original and nothing ever will be. It just felt like SW, even with the flaws.

I can't see how people think that anyone walked in there expecting to see STM or SII again....well we did sort of see STM again, but that wasn't what anyone was expecting.

I know the movie fell slightly short, but dammit, this is where we need to show our support.

I've seen it twice already, and if it wasn't for crappy weather in Toronto, I would have seen it more. And indeed I'm going to before the week is through.

Get the word out.

Support your hero.

No offense meant at all, but I must say this all sounds like a Jehovah's witness' calling for people to join their church to "spread the word" as in, "don't turn your back on Jesus"

I don't know about any of you, but if I don't like a movie, I don't invest time and money into seeing it again and again so they can have a couple extra bucks from my pocket to make more movies I won't like.

When the jehovah's witnesses come to my door, I tell them politely to go to hell... no I actually just decline them... thought it'd probably be a lot lest costly to join them than watch passion of the clark again and again...

Haha. I understand. I only see movies a few times at cinemas if I really love em. I did it with the Spidey films and Batman Begins too.

Well, I'm more inclined to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest than Superman at this moment. A few things I've read and heard bug me concerning Superman Returns.

Those sea-people things bug me on Pirates 2. I adored the first film, but this one looks a bit childish. And never believe or be persuaded by anything you read, always see for yourself!

We went to the 10pm show on Tuesday (having bought our tickets in advance) and the theatre ended up opening three more auditoriums to accommodate the crowd. Then we went for the second time yesterday afternoon and the auditorium we were in was packed to capacity. (No reaction to the Spiderman 3 trailer btw)

Well, put it this way....I DO NOT LIKE THE SUPERKID IDEA!!!!! This is the major reason why I am not seeing Superman Returns and will wait to see it when it comes out on DVD. I mean you got to do better than the first, most brilliant of them all, Christopher Reeve Superman film. An illegitimate son of Superman does nothing to instill any confidence in me. And Davey Jones and his crew are anything by kiddyish!!! I thought them rather grotesque and disturbing in a Lovecraftian way. I don't know whether or not to take my 7 year old nephew to go see the movie this Friday because the crew of the Flying Dutchman might scare the bejeesus out of him. That said, just face the fact POTC 2 will blow Superman Returns out of the water.

the kid is barely in the movie dude..its not like he has HUGE amounts of screentime..once u see him..u'll love the guy..but thats you dude.

If all you don't like is the Superkid...I say see it in the theater...the story doesn't exactly weigh on the kid and most of the time in your favor, the good will outweigh the bad....trust me

Well, I won't say anything because it's been said!

Those who loved the movie can't understand why people would hate it...

But people who hate the movie can understand why people loved it - because they don't realize "what could have been" and don't feel a disappointment and loss of wasted potential. People who hate the movie feel that people who love it are settling for a compromise and that is a bit sad to them.

l As someone who enjoyed the film , I can understand why people would hate it.
There are valid gripes with the plot and the story. That being said ,they weren't enough for me personally to dislike it. I can however, appreciate that others wouldn't feel the same way. The different camps remind me alot of what happened when x3 came in where half the people loved it and half hated it. For the record, I thought X3 was horrid, but I could see what aspects people would like about it.

Those of us who are being negative - are being negative not just for the sake of being negative - or for the sake of hating Superman.

We are being negative because we saw great potential for an epic modern Superman film and were greatly disappointed in wasted potential that just feels like a shame.

Seeing SR was like seeing an old friend that used to be the best...but is now crippled or sick. You just feel sorry for him and wish that things would have been different and you want to help, but you can't because it's totally out of your control.

Exactly!
Damn you hit the nail on the head !
I feel robbed.

I still haven't found a good reason to spend 6.50 to see it.

 wow it's $9.50 for adults here NJ/NY
$8.50 in some areas.

Supporting your hero (if that's what he means to you) and 'getting the word out' isn't the same as being a Jehovah's Witness (the allusion to it being a cult duly noted).

No it is no different from supporting your favourite team or athlete through a rough patch, or when they're (he's/she's) slightly sub par.

For those who're still looking to be convinced themselves, good luck to ya and for what it's worth, I hope you find your reason.

For those of us who are hardcore, dyed-in-the-wool SUPERMAN fans, don't turn your back on your hero darnit!

This is where you make your choice.

Take a stand.

Let others know how passionately you feel about the character, let them see the movie and decide for themselves.

To be fair, my expectations were very hard to meet. I expected the GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME.

And you seen it 4 times. Bravo, great way to exspress your hate, kiddo!

Does every thread on here have to be turned into a friggin complaint thread here? This is getting sickening, at least the boards are more under controlled at the Planet, the Mods are frigging MIA here for the last week.

The topic implies, or I should say, directly states that we have to support this film, we have to accept it with open arms, because it has the name superman on it, that we shouldn't decide for ourselves and that choice is irrelevant if you disliked it or came away not being fond of his kid or whatever your gripe is, that despite not being satisfied you should support what Singer's decided to do to your favorite athlete or team. I on the other hand, think we do have a choice.

I'm also absolutely sure that if an opposite thread were made "Turn your back on superman returns" it'd be closed in seconds.

(and since when are jehovah's witnesses a cult... nevermind...I'm not even getting into that one.)

You guys can ***** all you want, but I'll just BET, regardless of what I feel now, that when I see this film, I'll be screaming for more, cause I still have all the faith in the world that this movie will leave me breathless! And Singer will get some new ideas for the sequel. Now the sequel should all be his own & not a tribute. ;)

I_See_Spidery, why you still hang out here if you don't want to see the movie & don't even like Superman? It kinda silly to hang out where you don't like a character & not plan to see the movie at all, don't you think? :o

How do you know the sequel won't be a "tribute" to Superman II?

Fair enough, but with the potential he's shown us with the first two Xfilms do you really think he just served you yesterdays leftovers just cause he lacked the vision to start something new? Is it so hard to believe that this might be the beginning of something epic? I'd like to see how he brings some of Superman's colorful rogue's gallery to life. And when I say bring to life I mean do them justice. Not the S&M version of Juggernaut we saw in X3.

If he wanted to prove he could pull off something new Superman he should have done so this film, not charge me 10 bucks to see a rehash of the first movie.

Naite gets a bit confused, but you cannot doubt he still has alot of optimisim for the film despite the s#!t people have been talking about it. And unlike some people, he hasn't broken down and downloaded a s#!tty Camra shot copy of it.

if this movie was a remake of STM, so be it. I'd much prefer a remake over a reimagining of the character. I guess I'm more of a fan of the movies then the comics, but that's just me. When I do read the comics, I'm most excited when I see Donnor's influence. I guess what i'm trying to say is I understand the 'true' comic book fans' disgust but if you hold STM close to your heart (closer than the comics) then you got the Superman movie you wanted.

My guess is that WB wanted a reboot origin story. Singer came in and sold them on a 'remake' and 'update' of STM. And that's what we got. I'm looking forward to his sequel.
