I agree that a brainwashed/mind controlled hero would be lame, most especially considering the Avengers comparisons that would ensue.

What would be cool, however, would be a duped Aquaman(King of Atlantis) where Lex could launch a false flag attack on Atlantis that would make it appear as though Superman/the U.S. government/UN had conducted the attack. Aquaman retaliates and mayhem ensues.

That could be cool.

If Atlantis attacks Gotham, or if Bruce suspects that Gotham is next, he would investigate what might have precipitated such aggression and seek to uncover Lex's plot, but not before first suspecting and confronting Supes; hence the rooftop face-off as hinted at in the Comic Con teaser.
