Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

DAAAA thanks for the correction lol
yes I ment to say MARVEL...

but yes I still stand by what I say lol

It's kind of stinky....I don't know that I'd stand that close...lol

Here is a full body picture of Doctor Doom as he appears in the new Fantastic Four: ROTS video game. I'd say it's safe to assume that it closely resembles the final version of his film counterpart...

I like the breast plate but other than that. :down
First time i'm seeing this where may i ask did it come from?It looks like a screencap.

From the TV spot that aired on Smallville....

If it is, everyone has failed in finding it. I have yet to see that clip.

Oh okay, thanks. Is that tv spot online?

Not that I've found......

WAIT A MINUTE....you're the great Retro?????? you can't find it.....:o

We're doomed....:csad:

get it doomed..................................................get it........

With Fox showing clips galore of everything else, I truly wonder why Doom is being kept in the shadows? Is it because they want to keep him a surprise, are they proud of what is being done with him in this movie, or is it something else entirely?

Because they know the fans are gonna freak out over his much-hyped "faithful armored look"--and not in a good way. :o

Every day that passes seems to indicate they are more interested in keeping the bad buzz down rather than keeping some surprises left for the theater. If it was something they knew we'd embrace they'd release it because it would do nothing but add even more positive buzz and anticipation for the project.

They know THIS reincarnation of Doom is not going to fly with a lot of folks.

I think the mainstream audience will think he looks pretty cool......I do......I understand that he's not the look of the original......but I like the look itself...

Well LS, you don't think that once we see it on the big screen, opinions will change for the better...maybe its a case of execution and that is all we need to see since all we've had are badly lit leaked photos and one tv photo that is somewhat grainy in terms of lighting....

I admire your optimism GS especially given that no one here seems to love the character as much as you do,personally i'd like to see a clip of him actually in motion where i can see the full armour before judging

In this day age of youtube you kind of expect these things to be online in a matter of hours or days. With X3 they were.

You know, if it were for some certain leaked production photos, I would be on the verge of saying this footage with Doom is just a rumor and the screen cap is a fake. But I believe more than one person here has seen the footage. It is kind of peculiar that the only place they showed it, as far as I know, was on Smallville. I know it's a superhero show tie in but it's not exactly a ratings blockbuster anymore.

I dunno Goblin--I hope that's the case. For me personally--so much depends on the legs and how they have them costumed. If they are armored, this for me is salvagable. I can live with the arms and the Wonder Woman bracelets. :p But if they have the whole Michelin Tire Man Rubberized Tub-O thing going on with Pu$$-N-Boots, I think people will laugh in the theatres. I hope that screen cap from the game has nothing in common with what's actually in the film. I don't need to see Dr. Doom with man-bulge and tights.

I showed some guys at my local comic store print-outs of the leaked Doom photos and they didn't care for the new look. Granted two of them were were DC fanboys, but the Marvel guy thought it looked terrible too. And guess what? The ONLY thing they zeroed in on and complained about was the arms. "Where's the armor?" one of them said.

Then why are they holding back images of him? I mean, they policed our site and others demanding them to come down--and that was only after the reaction was negative. If it were overwhelmingly positive don't you agree they would've let them stay out? After all, they need all the positive buzz they can get--you can never have "too much" anticipation for these kinds of movies.

That it hasn't shown up on YouTube makes me wonder myself.

Didn't somebody out there record that episode of "Smallville?"

What date was it on?

Most of the bad buzz for this movie has been planted and watered on the internet by fanboys that are not happy with certain aspects of the movie....maybe they know that.....and to keep that from happening they are holding it for the rest of the audience that may actually like the look and allow their opinion to be fully from the movie itself, not some bad buzz manifested by the over analyzation of fanboyism on the internet....:cwink:

BTW, I agree the posters have looked like crap, but all I've heard, other than here on the internet has been positive about the posters.........I just have to disagree with them.....but hey....thats how it goes sometimes.

Could it be possible they are revamping his look? I've heard of crazier things... could they be adding in some little things to make it a bit more Doomish?

Ya never know.....

Perhaps.

But if that's the case then that's also a pretty blatant admission that they've dumped the source material again in favor of Hollywood pop confections. Some things--when updated and translated correctly--can even win over internet fanboys. Look at the reception of the Silver Surfer and the Fantasticar for example--from what I've seen comic fans think the concepts are awesome.

Dr. Doom is probably the biggest sorespot for many fans of the first film...he's the one character I think most people wanted "fixed" for the sequel--especially in terms of his motivations, characterization and especially his look. If they haven't rectified those problems there's gonna be a stink. I think they're skurred...LOL :oldrazz:

But I'm gonna hold out hope that this is all gonna look better on screen, ESPECIALLY if Julian delivers with a stronger performance. If the writing, direction and acting is on point we may yet get the "REAL" Dr. Doom in spirit...even if he doesn't look anything like the character.

Well, IMDB has the status of the production as "completed". But we do know that Julian was back on the set as late as the middle of April. And he missed a supposedly scheduled appearance on the red carpet at the POTC: World's End premiere last week. But I doubt they would be doing something with him that late in the game.... would they???

It's feasible.

Kel, at what point did they shoot more "character moments" with Jessica running down the street in New York (being chased by passersby in the first film)? Was it this late in the game? I do remember that none of us were expecting them to add more footage so late--but they did.

For the fans around here and other internet sites.....yes I agree.....as far as the mainstream audience......hmmmmmmmm....not from what I've heard....at least from my kiddos.....so can't say the same for them...Diaglogue and presentation yes, look......haven't heard much of a problem with that....

That is what is most important to people I've talked with.......not that this is a major part of our conversations....lmao.........but the one thing that was brought up about the last movie, was the dialogue of Doom, and how it was presented......so I'm hoping for that as well.......
