Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

I actually think Mcmahon (and Chiklis) were the better actors in the movie.

McMahon was good in the Profiler tv show, was the more interesting part of horrible Charmed, and is really good on nip/tuck

Evans proved to be much better
Alba still has no talent beyond being on Dark Angel
and Gruffurd looks so lost

But pertaining to Julian . Its just crappy writing to he has to work with. I dont really think its no acting capability. Though a vast improvement over the first film, he still had some dumbass lines and nothing much to do. You cant be an awesome Doom acting wise if you were still written as crap.

There was some improvement but his worst lines, again, where when he was full on Doom. I think the writers fear it will be over the top.

And I loved Julian in Profiler... nice to see a fellow fan here!

BTW, did you catch his appearance on the Graham Norton show on BBC America? It's from earlier this year when he was promoting "Premonition" and it's on a couple more times this week. He and Joan Rivers were pretty funny together as guests.

Went to school for forensic psychology so I fricking loved Profiler though fake as hell LOL. Anyway, Interview wise from what ive seen he can be funny as hell and that BBC interview was funny. For first F4 movie they had a autograph signing in a comic book here in NYC. He was super nice ( My friend thought he might be a prick like his N/T character) along with Ioan. The other 3? not so much :csad:

doom does look awesome, his armor, finally. screw trench coats. I mean, EVEN now, no one can ever figure out HOW the hell he got that green coat in the first movie. A cloak is a cloak but a well designed green coat with hood and gold accessories, where do you buy it??? so doom is much better.

I really wanted a Vader like voice like everyone, but by this movie, I just thought I think this is the Doom FOX want. Dont want to rip Vader, so eventho it is a bad vision and idea. Doom seems to me just a cunning sleazy a-s-s-h-o-l-e type of guy. The guy whos cockiness that you just hate that no matter how lame he is, that is the why he behaves, like freaking American Idol crap.

I come to learn to accept it. Ok, that is the doom they want to show. Fine, then fine-tune this Doom into more depth. That is what Doom needs. Instead of being Vader like super EVIL, that is TOO late for now. Just get more depth to the character by the next movie. The way he works, show he smartness versus his sleaziness that will make this Doom work.

I personally, perfer the MASK from the first movie. It looks slick. The new one, does look EVVVILLLL but too much i think, you know to match the soft voice of the movie doom.

I wish, that the next movie, the seriously focus FULLy on Doom, his castle, how he works inside of it, and bring on the FREAKING DOOMBOTS!!!!!!!!!! NOT a trace of them.

the only fix possible for doom are, since he almost died in 2. He should revert back to the scared self, which piss him off more. Explain that the damage also cause his natural power to decrease. And the only wya to increase his powers back is thru his inventions and new weapons from his suit.
Then, the Doom we want should be back.

Well, in a perfect imagination world we want, Doom should lose his soft speaking voice from the damage he had taken from the defeat, and he have to use a voice machine to speak.. OH OH, too Vader-like...

But then it would be a Doom movie and not a Fanastic Four movie....

Personally I'd like Doom to have a rest in the next movie, and have the 4 head for the Negative Zone or something....

I definitely want to see Doom take center stage and become full Doom next time. Especially since there's a very good chance that the next movie will be the last, becuase it's the last one they're all contracted for and you know they'll all demand huge raises for a fourth. I want to do Doom go balls-out cuckoo for cocoa puffs and take over Latveria and do a full assault on the team with robots and the whole 10 yards. Doom should be the Magneto of this franchise.

I would rather FF3 not focus on Doom. Have the main story be about the Inhumans or the Negative Zone or something, with a subplot focusing on Doom's return and rise to power in Latveria.

Agreed!! Originaly I thought that a short break from Doom could only better him. However in the Pirate movies Barbossa was the biggest missing piece in Dead Man's Chest. They saved him for the end and full fledge in At World's End. I thought that would do Doom justice in this series. However I forgot, it was stated that the actors were all signed for 3 movies. Most franchises call it quits after a third. The cost to get 5 hot actors to continue the movies after their contract is up would only be 'fantastic.' Dr. Doom IS the Magneto of the Fantastic Four. If the third movie is the last he desirves to be center stage.

I think we probably won't see too much of Doom any more, which gives me kind of mixed emotions. I really want to see the FF branching out into more of the imaginaut concept from the comics. Like Kel suggests, bring on the Inhumans in the Great Refuge, or the Negative Zone.

But then I also wish the movies would tackle Stan and Jack's last major arc involving Doom and that is the one where we have Nick Fury, head of SHIELD come to ask Reed to investigate reports of a secret army being assembled in Europe. Then we would find out that Doom has staged a coup in Latveria and is developing the killer robot army with designs on invading a neighboring country. I think having a smaller plan would work, because I reluctantly agree with Avi Arad that the "conquer the world" shtick is too much like Dr Evil.

Perhaps in the third movie, Doom will be resurrected and rise from the depths of the sea...just like Phoenix in X3.

:cwink: :oldrazz:

That's about the only thing they kept from the comics pertaining to Pheonix in X3.

As much as I would love to see the Inhumans, I don't think it will have a budget that can handle that.....I doubt it will get much more that what it had for this movie......and I do not see 8 to 10 people with major CGI on that kind of budget......and do it properly....

Why wouldn't we see Doom in the next movie? Besides, if Fox can greenlight a Magneto movie, why couldn't Doom get one? Heck, I would love to see one of the animated movies devoted to the Books of Doom.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, I still think that McMahon's Doom should appear in the final chapter of the franchise and have his kingdom completely under his control, full blown robot army, and mix it up with whatever plot they give the F4 to deal with...Frightful 4 would be great...make it 4 individuals that Doom creates as a counter-F4.

If they go the BP route (assuming they can grab the rights), maybe we could have Latveria invade Wakanda for the vibranium.

Then a BP spin-off can cover the origin with Klaw as the villain.

What?!:wow:

How can you agree with that? That is what Doctor Doom is all about! He's a facist! This is what Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin could have done to the world had they harnessed the almighty power that Doom has. Just imagine how cool a full on battle of Doombots versus lines of infantry would be. Think of Terminator: Rise of the Machines. Think of Doombots marching into the UN with Doom casually striding in demanding orders of his supremacy.

While it's unlikely to see this on such a grand scale due to the caliber of these films, how can you not want Doom trying to conquer the world?

I do think they can bring Doom back again. If you can bring him in a second film, it feels odd not to have him in a third. But the question could be asked- what can Doom do to top taking the Surfer's powers? Obviously making a pact with demons, killing someone, stealing the Beyonder's power etc are out of the equation but I don't think we're done with Doom just yet...

...Plus even Fox must realise how awesome the name "Fantastic Four: Doomsday" sounds for a film. Though one wonders if it wouldn't be more appropriate that amidst the X-Men trilogy, the Spidey trilogy etc, we had the Fantastic Four quartet. That would allow Doom to be developed in the background in movie 3 for a full grand re-appearance in movie 4.

Agreed! That would be the best thing. However if the actors are only signed for 3... well look at Spider-Man. Now theres all this talk about Tobey might/might not. FF has 5 big names to deal with. I would realy like a minor roll in 3 with 4 being all Doom. But like most I'll take what I get.

Make him the Ruler of Latveria Doom, and we should see something that tops him stealing the Surfer's power.

the acting for Doom is terrible... and I hate that he is still alive. THey knock him into the water, big deal. They should have killed him off.

Doom never dies! You can't kill Doom. I am glad he lived. He can take Latveria, and become Doom now!

I think Julian plays Victor well as far as he is written. I'd like to see him written more like comic Doom, though.

I was glad that Doom apparently lives, even though I thought the movie should have ended with him actually taking Latveria. If they do a third movie, I also want to see full blown DR. DOOM. However, with the family freindly vibe to these movies, we'll probably never see Doom at his full strength and power.

The heroes can only be as good as their villains, and with a watered down Doom all we'll ever get is a watered down Fantastic Four.

If we can get a proper Doom in a cartoon (see season 2 of the 90's show), we can get one in a movie. It just has to be done with the right crew.

I WANT THE LATVERIAN DICTATOR ALREADY!!! NO MORE VICTOR! NOW BECOME DOOM!!!

And don't lose in anymore stupid ways, please. The Cosmic Doom stuff was great except for his defeat.

Doom looked like GG on the surfboard. I hate how movie Doom is a lot wekaer in the movies and in comics he is more powerfull

You can say that about everybody... in any comic book movie... ever!
