Rise of the Silver Surfer DR. DOOM/Julian McMahon Discussion

I wanna see what doom looks like in this new movie
if ya got the Baned pics pm them to me

I'm telling you guys, for some reason 616 Doom is not the Doom they want for these films. I think it's blatantly obvious. Admittedly, if they did give us 616 Doom, he would change the tone of the film somewhat. He is an evil, mad-genius dictator after all. But that doesn't necessarily mean we'd have to go into LOTR scale evil, just Darth Vader scale evil. The film also doesn't have to become a dark broodfest.

Y'know... I can almost see the reasoning behind turning Doom into an industrialist instead of a dictator. At the time they were planning it all out, I'm sure they had visions of Iraq and Saddam in their heads. There's a good chance that they wanted to avoid any and all parallels to the Iraq war and to just make it a superhero adventure.

That still doesn't excuse them for not giving us a Doom that looks like the Doom from the comics. They seem to be going out of their way to avoid putting Doom in a suit of armor - so far that they actually gave him steel skin and powers, rather than using techology to create that stuff for him.

Oh by no means does it excuse the look, but it just jibes with them shying away from 616 Doom. I mean think about it; imagine the Doom from the comics or MUA in Tim Story's film...he would stick out like a sore thumb. Envision the entire SS, Galactus Saga; does the scope, epic size and "feeling" you envision or felt from the comics seem like it would it would fit stories vision? I say this as someone who like many enjoyed 3/4 of the first film, flaws and all, It had potential but fell way short.

Damn! I was quietly hyped for this film at first! I really hoped it would redeem the first and be all the first one wasn't..........

Hey ya know I could live with everything they did with Doom in the first one except ONE thing: his VOICE with the mask on. Why not the metallic creepy voice from the old cartoon? If they get at least THAT part right, I could live with it.

Leaked Doom pics? If anyone has them, can you send them to me please? Thanks.

Same here, can anyone hook me up with these leaked pics please?

I'm just very curious to see how they look in a clearer view.

The banned pics are small so you can't really study the costume thoroughly. but they are much better than this one blurry pic that everyone is just shooting off with wild exclamations without any real hard core evidence.

This is just one picture!!!!! The video game concept picture doesn't even really count!

Until they release something offical then you can go ahead and take a stance on this Doom costume debate. Until then, most of you should take a 'wait and see' tactic.

See, I think the hole Iraq/Saddam angle would have been the way to go with Doom in the first movie. A rouge nation in the middle of Europe with technology that rivals the Super Power Nations, and a mad man at the helm seems much more timely than the tired tycoon story line.

I think that idea would have worked too. They could have left Doom out of the origin and just had him show up just as the FF gained prominence in the press. I'd fast forward past a lot of the early Doom appearances in the comics and have him introduced much the same way he is in the second story in FF annual #2... a mysterious figure who is the power behind the Prime Minister of Latveria, who's just there for show.

Why should Doom's disfigurement be Reed's fault? In the comics, Reed was trying to help Doom, but it was Doom's ego that was to blame!...

The interesting thing is you will not find a single panel in the Lee/Kirby FF where Victor blames the accident on Reed. In fact, in the FF Annual #2 story, he clearly states "what have I done?" or words to the effect. It wasn't until much later, FF#200, that he starts to shift the blame over to Reed. But since he was had a complete mental meltdown in that issue, I tend to chalk that up to an extreme fit of paranoiac delusion.

A while back, before the proliferation of message boards and the like, there were the usenet discussion groups. One of the interesting theories that one poster put forth was that Victor slowly went a little nuts as a residual effect from absorbing the Power Cosmic from the Surfer. We also speculated this also may be why he chose to use Terrax as the vessel the next time he chose to exploit the powers.

...but until see the movie and get the full gist of it, we should wait before we "completely" destroy Doom..

Not our work at all. Story, Fox and the geniuses that worked on the Doom look have done that for us. "Completely destroyed" is a fine expression to what we are seeing. :cmad:

Who wants those leaked Doom pics.
I have them
PM me.

Let's see, USA were endorsing Doom, giving him weapons until they decided that he was not reliable anymore, and told lies to the Fantastic Four like that in Latveria they were building a giant weapon powered by power cosmic, so the four to beat Doom start killing innocent civilians?

BEST-POST-EVER. :hyper:

You left out the part where Doom starts the war by invading neighboring countries, loose said war but defies the terms of the surrender for over 12 years. Then after foolishly tricking the world into believing that he has the cosmic powered weapon, the FF [with the US and UN behind them] attack. Sadly, Doom uses his own citizens as fodder, and even after he is taken out; outside forces continue to subvert the FF's best efforts at restoring peace to Latveria...

But I am more of a Lee/Kirby guy. I figure if it did not happen in their issues, then [for the most part] it did not happen.

1 thing I can't figure out. Why are they so hush, hush with Doom ? We have not seen 1 official released picture of Doom from the front. We saw in the trailer Doom from the back. Is Fox affraid of fan reaction ? Do they just want it to be a total surprise ? What gives ? I've seen the illegaly released picture of him, and I think he looks pretty dame good. Tons beeter then the 1st movie, so what gives ?

Sites like this are the only ones asking the questions, the majority of the audience will see him for the first time on the big screen.....maybe Fox wants that to be the experience of everyone....

OR

They were going to give us a cool introduction to Doom until that idiot Asian site leaked the photos and pissed Fox off......and they said.....well to hell with the fanboys, they have to wait like everyone else....:woot:

I do not understand why they are sitting on Doom [after telling us that he was back and would take the Surfer's powers] and then give away the entire power switch thing, one of the only surprises left in the movie - that I can think of.

Oh I'm sure there are lots of surprises we haven't seen. So far they have managed to keep the ending from leaking. Seeing them switching powers was an awsome idea. We've seen The Fantisicar. We've seen The Surfer. We've seen the helicopter comming down, and Sue stopping it. I have a feeling that is just the tip of the iceberg. This movie is packed with money shots I have a felling. And that was a great idea, putting the forums on another server. Thanks guys. It moves now like it used to.

I think [and I hope] you are right! I have waited 40 years to see these stories come to the screen and I think [for the most part] I am going to be happy!

Unless you've read the novelization.....there are a few more....

I hope there ARE a few more, and that's why I am NOT reading it!

I think so. Everything is pointing in that direction. :woot:

Well, my brother and I are training my nephew (who is one of triplets, 2 girls and a boy) so that if he ever becomes a Hollywood director, he will be sure to get Doom right. Maybe by the time he's grown up, we can see the arc where the FF travel to Latveria at Nick Fury's request to investigate rumors of an army of killer robots...

Why couldn't the next director be "one of the girls"?????? :o
