Dr. Manhattan's creepy grin

dude he is 100 feet tall, so his "little boy blue" is like 8 feet long. whats not to smile about?

I noticed the grin too in the Vietnam sequence and it creeped me out, it made the scene more disturbing, but I'm not sure it's necessary. The Doc becomes more and more detached from humanity as time goes on, (until the mars talk with laurie), and eventually he finds the fact he's used as a weapon by the U.S. government tiresome in the sense he feels like he has better things to do. So as creepy as that smile is, I don't think it is needed. It sort of goes against his "alienated" personality. I don't understand why his character would enjoy it.

If you look at the source material (the Graphic Novel) You can see a strange smirk on Dr. Manhattan's face as well.

The look on his face makes the shot seem inorganic.

Stay-Puft/Gozer comes to mind.

That's the whole point. He's supposed to be pretty removed from what's going on around him. Despite the fact that he's literally destroying someone, his expression is blank, almost serene.

I really don't have a problem with it; I just hope Crudop's performance isn't limited, due to the CGI.

Yeah, I don't see the grin. That's just how the actor looks like.

Well, an emotionless look is good on paper, but in a film, there's going to have to be a little bit of something for the viewer to connect with.
