With Transformers a sucess and Speed Racer coming out Studios are looking to turn animated tv shows in to live action films. Who should direct Dragon Ball if it is ever made? I suggest SKazuaki Kiriya ( Casshern) or Zack Snyder

Any director that is good with action/fight scenes and/or knows the anime.

So...I would go with Issac Florentine (Undisputed II, upcoming Van Damme action flick The Shephard). This guy knows how to film the action.

anybody have his number to call him up about this breaking development?

Although Stephen Chow is GREAT....a DragonBall LIVE ACTION movie should NEVER be made...

It almost got made a few years ago, but it's probably a very bad idea. Drangonball / DBZ does not lend itself well to live action at all, unless you want to make a bunch of changes that will tick off a bunch of fanboys (like getting rid of all the talking animals).

Personally, I'd much rather see them make Evangelion into a trilogy of live action movies.

Stephen Chow, plus he already did a film on the Monkey King story, from which DB took some inspiration from.

DBZ should never be a movie. It would look wrong if they tried to make the characters accurate and not DBZ if they didn't.

Has there been anything online about a DBZ movie?

Is being "considered"! Not sure if any progress has been made but there has been some artwork done for the film.

That would be the worst live action movie ever...the cartoon was bad enough...

Old 80's music plays-
Sayan 1 :"I'm going to kick your ass!"
Sayan 2: "No, I'm going to kick your ass!"

20 minutes later...

Sayan 1: "your ass is so going to get kicked"
Sayan 2: "NO....your ass is going to get kicked"

Narrator: "Find out who's ass gets kicked on the next DRAGON BALL Z!!!"

the people who made the cartoon should help and make the movie

it would be cool if one was made but i wonder wtf they would look like

Forget DBZ...

The only anime property I'd ever want to see in Live Action format...

I can see that happen :woot:
It didn't really work out as an anime, and most likely won't as a live action movie.

well they already have a director, the guy who did X-Files and The One. they start production in Canada in november and there supposed to start shooting in the summer. from what they gave of what theyre doing for story they are making some big changes.

-----------------------SPOILERS------------------------------------------

firstly its a DragonBALL movie, not DBZ. The big bad in it is going to be King Piccolo. Goku is apparently to be portrayed as an uncool/unpopular 18 yr old high school kid whos been fighting his whole life trained by his grandfather Gohan. when Piccolo surfaces he kills Gohan and before he dies he tells Goku to stop Piccolo and to do so he has to find Gohan's old sensei Master Roshi and to collect the 7 dragonballs (of course Goku already has the 4 star). At this point he is apparently going to be meeting Bulma who is portrayed as a twenty something grad-student type dealing with science. she is also looking for the dragonballs and already has the 5 star.

they eventually meet roshi who goes trains goku and goes with them on there quest. i know at some point they get attacked by Yamcha who they want to portray as the badass type despite the fact that he'd nearly vomit whenever he saw bulma in the show. yamcha eventually of course becomes a good guy. they say that theyll meet other friends along the way and that goku will be competing in tourneys so im assuming well see tien, chaotzu and krillin as well.

piccolo is apparently part of a demon alien race (which if they make sequels theyll probably change that in later movies to better suit nameks in the frieza saga since King Piccolo was relatively 'unique' in DB)and when he sees goku hes the one who tells him hes a sayian and that he should be helping him. at this point id imagine a big fight ensues thatll probably result in King Piccolo spitting out DBZ piccolos egg like in the anime.

so yea i dk, the changes they're making seem alright for translating to live action setting which lets face it when the emperor of the world is a big blue cat with a mustache they haveta do something. it looks like theyre shooting for a more contemporary setting though but good or bad ill be seeing it anyway cuz im a tool.

oh yea and i know chichi is going to be in it as gokus love interest as well.

haha i love dbz but this was so funny because it was so true, that really used to get on my nerves when watching episodes.

The movie is being directed by James Wong, so yes it will suck.

Some of that seems right, the bit about them filming here soon is spot on. Dragon Ball Z as it's listed, is on 20th Century Fox's filming schedul for Febuary in Montreal...although I'm not sure about the plot as from what I've heard Goldberg is still signed on as Nappa which would lead me to believe they'e doing a whole different saga.

I think this film has potential as long as it's done right. A common argument I get is, "Come on...a couple of grown men flying around in the sky kung fu fighting and shooting energy blasts?" My response..." Ever seen the Matrix?" The end of the last film in particular.

Almost looks like it was storyboarded out in a VERY similar fashion to how an anime would look, based on the end result.
