Dragonball Script Thread (Contains Spoilers Duh)

So, basically it's obvious that Pilaf is replaced (thankfully) by Piccolo. And rightfully so.

Pther than that... LOVED IT. Yeah, that was realy good. Roshi was amazing. Bulma was flipping incredible and Yamcha was awesome.

The ending was the best part for me.
Ending was horrible. Really horrible. And piccolo killed? Ugh...

But I agree with you on the other things.

Oh, well yes. Piccolo killed was stupid, but obviously will be changed. At least I hope.

I LOVED the "destroyer" though. Goku going ape**** (literally) will be awesome.

I realy hope they keep that in.. it was one of the most solid aspects.

I haven't had the chance to read the entire early draft written by Ben Ramsey but a lot of it is just pure garbage in my opinion. (I'm really glad James Wong re-wrote this god awful piece of writing). One part that really bothered me was that the "Dragonball" mythology was part of a Card game/Video game franchise in this first draft of the script. The fact that Goku and Bulma have a romantic relationship bothered me to. A lot of the dialogue was horribly written. I also noticed how Ben Ramsey tried including every single character from the Dragonball series and how that did not really work. Again I'm glad that James Wong cut out a good amount of characters including Puar and Oolong.

Craig is right about the video game / card game aspect. I trust James Wong will remove that junk. I didn't mind the relationships, though.

And yes, Puar and Oolong should be cut.

7/10 a very good first draft, I'm curious to see what changes Wong made.

I like the Puar, Snow, and Krillen cameos.. Oolong was awful though.

Lobo's review:

Characters

THE HEROES

Yamcha: Effing PERFECT. I was envisioning the cast as I read this, and I can see Joon Park owning this and being the biggest breakout star, as well as Yamcha being one of the more popular characters to a General Audience. And a cat named Puar to boot, that was something I had in my script that i was writing :D Wolf fang Fist FTW

Bulma: The attitude is down pat, and while I had my reservations about Bulma as a gun toting badass, I LOVED it. I'm really amped to see Emmy in this role.

Master Roshi
: Very well done.

Goku: Other than the HS stuff, which didn't last long, I enjoyed his character but would have liked to see some more humor from him.

Chi Chi: It was nice to see her in there, and I'm glad her role has been expanded in the newer drafts. Why it's nice to see why Goku loves her I wanted to see some of her dominating personality.

Ox King: Cool scenes for him, I hope they keep that in.

THE VILLAINS

Mai: So deliciously evil! I can see her being the breakout villain here, you love to hate and hate that you love her. Also, I liked the use of/nod to the fans of Suno.

Pilaf: i have to admit i thought it was avery cool way to bring Pilaf to the screen, HOWEVER, I am very glad that his and Piccolo's characters have seemed to merge in what we've heard about newer drafts.

Piccolo
: His entrance and fighting sequence are badass. But, in my opinion he needed a bigger role/more screen time, which we'll get so I'm good here. His death though, was kinda lame, I hope for something better next April.

Heiji Warriors-Those things sound like they'd be incredible on screen. Like the droids in Phantom menace only cool and ass kicking

Shou
-Not much here other than his end fight w/ Yamcha which sounded cool as hell.

Oolong: I actually liked the use of Oolong here. After his initial introduction he was pretty useless disposable character IMO and here, he's a bad ass wraith w/ a pigs face.

Geek Out Moments

* Mai as Suno
* Super Roshi kamehameha wave
* Oolong's piglike face
* Shou having a wolf's face
* Roshi saving the day when Oozaru Goku is about o trounce Yamcha and Piccolo
*Krillen woot :woot:
* Last but not least Oozaru :D

I LOVED the "destroyer" though. Goku going ape**** (literally) will be awesome.

Meh I don't know if like that so much. It means that there was another saiyan on Earth before Goku and It made Piccolo sound like he wasn't that strong. Goku said several times that it was the ape doing the real destruction and not Piccolo.

Also it was lame that after all that Oozaru hype, to gather the balls before the eclipse, he's only in ape form for what seemed like 30 secs.

Mai and Bulma chemistry should definitely be kept. Loved it.

I loved it too, but I we're getting Chi Chi vs Mai martial arts action now instead of Bulma/Mai shoot em up action

The whole high-school angle is even more ridiculous than I suspected it would be now that I've seen it fleshed out in a script. I'm up to the part where Goku comes home from the "make out" party and finds Gohan and the two friends dead in his house. This movie is going to get a very big unintentional laugh if Wong didn't excise from his version of the script the scene where Goku marks the graves of his friends with Dragonball "trading cards," does some martial arts moves in the air over his grandpa's grave, and then recites one of the most unsettlingly hackneyed lines a person could possibly write: "I will avenge you." That sounds like something straight out of a movie used for an episode of MST3K, more Pumaman than Dragonball.

If the basic storyline of this script represents to a reasonable extent the final storyline of the movie as it stands now, then I'm guessing the screenshot of Goku bent down by a wooden floor looking sad is from the scene I discuss above. It has to be from somewhere early on in the script since he puts on the keikogi a short time later, and he is wearing regular clothes in the picture. His clothes aren't in tatters from the wolves as they are described as being in this script, but the whole confrontation with the wolves was also pretty stupid and even interfered with the flow of the plot a little bit, and if Wong has any sense about him, he should have edited that sequence out too.

Yes the video game trading card stuff was crap.

Just to clarify, Wong had NOTHING to do with this script. This was an early draft by Ben Ramsey.

Eh, people are complaining without even reading the script, or only reading 1/16th of it.

Read the whole thing before you make an opinion.

Haha, their is alot of funny dialogue here.

Gohans Dead

Rosh turns serious

Roshi: sad news indeed. You're here, and hes gone, that can only mean one thing.

Goku nods his head gravely

Goku: Its true.

Roshi: You're here to collect the money i owed him...

The timing is pretty damn good.

I felt a tear come to my eye when the Teto copies died. *Sniff* I think the 2 cards are symbolic. But that's me.

It seems like only me and Humpty Dumpty think that this script (Written by Ben Ramsey) is complete garbage. I'll try finishing this pitiful excuse for a script by tonight but I don't even have to read the entire script to recognize how bad the writing and the story that Ben Ramsey had in mind is a total and utter mess. (This is my opinion) I trust that both James Wong and Stephen Chow changed enough things in this script to make it worthy of a theatrical release.

P.S: I can't believe 20th Century Fox payed Ben Ramsey 500,000 dollars to write this script.
