Damn, it's hard to pick a dream team of Avengers. Here's a stab at it, though:

Captain America (the leader and IMO, a must-have for every Avengers line-up)
Iron Man (also a must-have for any Avengers line-up)
Ms. Marvel (although I prefer the Warbird name)
Black Panther
Storm (not just because of BP, but because I think Storm would really shine on the Avengers)
Captain Marvel (Genis, because he's my favorite of the Captains)
Northstar (for a bit of variety instead of using Quicksilver)

One more thing to add to yours, is something else Spider-Man brings to the group: Experience and Connections. people often discredit Spider-Man as a low-level strength without much to offer when broken down, but he has fought beside almost every hero in the Marvel universe, been to most locations, seen almost any thing the cosmic world has to offer.

But I like the idea of your team if:

A: Phylla has a thing for Carol
B: Gravity has a man-crush on Spider-Man
C: Spider-Man and Black Knight constantly call Hercules "Herakles" to get on his nerves
D: Gravity is constantly asking disbeliving questions about Magic to Black KNight and Hercules
E: Ms. Marvel calls cap on the "Eye-Candy" accusations, which he naturally says aren't true, as she walks away, all the guys except Cap and Phylla lean over to watch her walk away.

A: Done
B: I was thinking more of a hero worship thing but you could read it that way if you liked.
C: That could work.
D: His abilities are scientific in nature and his mind seems to be geared that way. And he's a rookie so that sorta thing would make sense.
E: No deal. Phylla would watch her go too.

LoL works for me. Also Herc would constantly be trying to pick Phylla and Carol up and would be completely oblivious to Phylla's "preferences" and Dane would constantly be running interference for the girls.

i think it would be funny if Hercules ever tired to impress them by LITERALLY picking them up *They're sitting on a patio and Hercules lifts the whole damn thing** "Hello ladies."

Visits from Moondragon would also be delicious. Hercules "I thought ladies grew out of their sleep over phase in their teens..."

MJ giving fashion tips to Phylla (who returns them to her with a blank stare) might get a couple chuckles.

Gravity and Hercules hitting the bars together... and Gravity attracting all the women (The "Aww" factor working for him).

Umm...I forsee Punisher killing (or trying to) kill Ares for all the grief he has caused the world, War Machine and U.S. Agent worked well together waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in Avengers: Terminatrix Objective along with ThunderStrike. Deadpool would probably bail on the WarVengers when the going gets tough (or if a better offer comes along) and how many times has the Hulk tried to rip the Avengers Proper apart? Darkhawk's the only likely COMMITTED member of the group when he isn't chasing the Runaways

What about a covert Avengers team? Anyone read StormWatch? I kind of liked the whole differen units thing they had going:

Stormwatch Prime (public/publicity team)
Stormwatch Red (police action team)
Stormwatch Black (covert/unconvientional warfare team)

My group consists mainly of the Prime and Black, the 'Black' team consisting of Maverick whom I think even without his powers is a formidable soldier. I was thinking of giving him a Sam Fisher feel. Venom's the team's powerhouse/wild card who's willing do do anything to keep his mind off eating brains. He's the team's joker, always picking on Maverick by calling him stuff like Colonel Klink and such because of his German heritage. Arabian Knight's the team's official scapegoat which obviously pisses him off. Anything the team does something illegal, he's always whining that its pretty damn Stereotypical that an Arab guy does stuff like that and laments that its where 24 gets its storylines from. A weird motley crew that operates out of the shadows and gets the job done...in a fashion.

eh... Okay, for starters I just wanted to come up with a completely bad-ass team of Avengers. an Avengers team that will make Ultron fill his iron shorts with his nuts and bolts.

secondly Punisher and Ares are more likely to be drinking buddies. these guys have quite a bit in common. Darkhawk is could be committed... to an institute for the kukoo. the armor is making him just a touch too hard core. Deadpool enjoys mayhem, slaughter, and general wakieness a lot so he'd stick around. and the Hulk... he was an ORIGINAL Avenger.

The current Thunderbolts without the Swordsman could do that. Current comic " badassness" is disputed. As far as some fans are concerned, the Authority is the MOST badass team around. Millar does his best in the Ultimates to live up to that, which is why sadly, all the villains in the Ultimates and the Authority never live past one story-arc.

No disrespect intended man. I just thought that ol' Frank would go God of War on Ares if you get my reference.

Also, avengers teams need to have people with equal power levels roughly, one could be faster, another stronger, or with purposes, like Cap for tactics and forge for tech etc.

Or it just ends up as the toughest team member takes everyone on!

Purposes makes sense. What exactly does a Super-team need? Numbers certainly tends to get in the way. How do you build a team anyways? My model of a team:

-Leader/Tactician
-Elementals
-Flyers, preferrably 2 or more
-Strength characters
-Galactic characters (kept to a bare minimum)
-Mutant representation
-Minority races representation
-Crazy-ass sonuva***** category
-Babes. Yeah definitely babes

I think I've more or less covered that in my team:

Black Panther (Leader/Financer/Tactician)
Storm (Flyer/Elemental/Mutant)
Nova (Flyer/Galactic level character)
Firestar (Flyer/Mutant/Elemental/Babe)
