Why I like the Avengers

I wish I knew

My guess?

It was a very hungry Galactus. And maybe the Collective could stop a very hungry Galactus.

a Ben Grimm in the face special did.

It's possible. They didn't show it, just referenced it. I don't mind though. All the bad guys should be more powerful than the heros in my opinion. Weather it be in raw power or intelligence.

I like powerful villains too. But not all Villains should be threats? Everybody loves bumbling villians and second raters.

As for the Sentry. Tossing the Collective out into Space and duking it out with him for awhile is still pretty impressive by earthly standards.

Well, I meant when were talking about the Avengers.

The numbers have doubled due to the members on the team who sell no matter WHAT titles they're on.

It's a shame the writing isn't as top notch as the characters.

Yes,there will always be some mindless fan who buys no matter what.I bet there is a sence of nolstalga, but i think its just stupidity for the most part.:(

I call that the Chuck Austen X-Men effect....you hate the current direction but you keep buying the book

Tsk this argument about it being entirely due to the characters is a bit iffy.

The clone saga proved if the writing is bad enough people WILL drop the book.

And as dread has pointed out recently, the x-men (aka wolverine) affect doesn't exist anymore ,whereby being related to the x-men would normally guarantee a book a top ten spot (brotherhood anyone) it simply doesn't anymore showing people aren't always just buying for the characters (which was an x-men staple).

So i don't think this character theory really holds up too well.

Weren't Magneto and Iceman among the mutants who lost his powers? If this Collective guy has the powers of a hundred omega-level mutants like Magneto and Iceman, plus a few thousand with impressive powers and the remaining millions with totally useless powers, I'd say his being a match for the Sentry is still pretty logical.

Absolutley, plus the Sentry wasn't really defeated he was just thrown really far away.

I gotta ask a question, shouldnt you know the guys that are mutants be called in to help out with this guy.

Why would they be? What difference would mutant powers, as opposed to enhanced human powers, make against an ungodly powerhouse like this dude? Wolverine's already there and he's been ineffective.

It be more help. COnsidering this is really a mutant population problem when you get down to it.

Last time the superheroes had a major mutant population problem was Onslaught, and it turned out mutants were a hindrance in that case.

Spidey already mentioned that. The mutants are a little busy what with a holocoust on their powers and all.

This is somewhat different.

Well he was able to hug Carol and make her all better. :D

Okay, here's a new guy weighing in on all this. I've been reading Avengers consistenly since the early 70s and have seen much change - good and bad. I always believe in giving the changes a chance. We are almost 20 issues into New Avengers now and I still haven't seen the point.
First we had to break down the old team to get this new thing started- that clearly indicated that big things were in store. To get things rolling, we had a big prison break that coincidentally brought a bunch of heroes together which for some odd reason made Cap and Iron Man decide this meant they all were destined to be Avengers. This was totally disrespectful to all the members who were on the old team but weren't offered new memberships just because they didn't happen to be at the prison. Since then, we've headed off to the Savage Land, fought some ninjas, and tried to understand Sentry's role in things. What is there about any of this that couldn't have been done just as effectively without tearing the old team apart for it. That's where my complaint comes in. All the change has resulted in some very dull storytelling, but with big name cast members on the cover. The changes were for sells, and that's fine, but they were for sales ONLY, not for story.
My final complaint is with the people who tell everyone to stop complaining. Wouldn't message boards be boring if we all just came on and said "Oh that was great," "You're right, that was great," "So was that," "Isn't the world great?" "I love everything"

I don't know. I'm sure we could get by just fine if everybody acted like that as long as we could still tell necrophiliac jokes and make fun of Namor's sea panties. :o

Anyway, welcome to the hype.
