Imagine this is the first batman movie ever and your in charge, no begins, no burton shumacher films, no nothing, and your the director and w.b. wants it out for 2008. what would you do? who would you cast? what would your story? How would the suit and batmobile look? When would you release it(to make money)? how would you market it? Heres my idea. all comments welcome.

I'll start with the story. It would a be a straight up batman film. Batman already exists in the shadows of Gotham; he;s an urban legend. Crimnals know of him as do the police, but he's been no real problem. This film would be his full on public immergence as a hero to battle the Joker. Not an all out origin like BEGINS or skip-origin-but-show-begining's like BURTONS, this has Batman has an expirienced hero ala Indiana Jones in Raider of the Lost Arc, just this is his first REAL BIG showdown.

CASTING

BATMAN-Johnny Depp
johnny_depp_portrait.jpg

Like Tim Burton said bout Michael Keaton, I think the audience would be able to picture Johnny Depp actually dressing up in a batsuit. Now, Box officer power aside, Depp would be fantastic for Batman. He's got the darky, mood depth to nail Bruce Wayne but is still believeable as the everyman yet could playoff the playboy aspect but it's his Batman I would love; the fact that I think the intensity and charisma he would bring to this character would awesome. Bale owns, but he's the most charasmatic hero. I want a Bale meets Keaton Batman-intimidating and powerful, yet likeable and Depp would do that.

THE JOKER-Jim Carrey
jim1-80.jpg

Jim Carrey would be an incredible joker. Like Depp, he brings enormous drawing power to the box office yet has the depth to play a tragic joker but animated personality to come off psycotic. He's a great villain and is easy to hate, and I dont think anybody has trouble imaging him as the Joker.

Silver St. Cloud-Cameron Diaz
Mask24.jpg

Again, box office pull aside, I can see her as the charasmatic, gorgeous heroine who steals Bruce's heart but ultimately she has the depth pull off the emotional side.

James Gordon-Gary Oldman
Yeah ok I know but hes the best!

Gotham City-No more modern realizism, think 1930's new york or Chicago with Futuristic buildings. Like this

BATMOBILE

STORY-Bruce Wayne is Batman. We see him at his parents grave, ect. Looking up at a picture of them. He falls in love with idealistic actress Silver St Cloud and battles the homicidal joker, whose born when Salvatore Maroni kills him personally. The end is he saves Gotham from the Joker's plans in a huge finale, and ultimately realize dhe and Silver are too different to be together forever. She learns who Batman is, and Batman saves her in the big finale. Enormous car chase in it too. Lots of action, lots of drama of Bruce not being able to deal with parents death. But like spiderman is, this is a blockbuster version of the Batman character filled with over action and some jokes but ultimatly keeping the dark tone of its depressing character.

RELEASE DATE
First weekend of May with huge Batman 1989 sized marketing bonanza. Lots of tie ins and ocmmercials.

how would yall do it?

Begins got it very very close for me. But there are a few things I would have done differently:

-No Rachel Dawes. Her purpose as love interest and moral centre for Bruce would be split between two characters: Talia al Ghul and Dr. Leslie Thompkins.

-Talia al Ghul: Played by Rachel Weisz

-Dr. Leslie Thompkins: Played by Judy Dench.

-Gotham needs to be more stylized. Not to the point where it seems completely unreal, but it's called Goth-am for a reason. I thought they did well with the 20's architecture, but they need more Gothic.

-My Batmobile would be a cross between the Tumbler and classic designs. Keep it looking like a tank, just give it a more familiar shape.

-Introduce Harvey Dent. I would like him to make a small cameo, played by Guy Pierce, but it would be acceptable to just have him mentioned.

-Stronger suggestions to the possibility of Ra's' immortality. No need to bring in the Lazarus Pits, just suggest it in hushed conversations Bruce has with the other League of Shadows members. End the monorail scene in a way that leaves more room for his survival.

-Display more police corruption. Besides Flass we didn't see much.

-More bones thrown to the fanboys. Have Silver St. Cloud heard on the radio. Mention a photography exhibit being presented by Vicky Vale. Mention Roman Sionis as a major competitor to Wayne Industries. Small things like that help a movie feel like it stepped right out of the pages.

Just cos city is called Gotham doesn't mean it has to be "Goth"

I never meant Goth, I meant Gothic. Gothic architecture, vaulted ceilings, flying buttresses etc. Really, Gotham should be much more heavily based on NY than Chicago.

I love Begins, I just think Gotham was a bit too drab.

hehe we got the same casting for leslie thompkins :D

Ok I understand.

I agree with the Bones thingy, Spiderman is filled with those little things, same Batman couldnt have some, but there was a few Mr Zasz ect.

if Talia and dr philips where incuded to convey a moral ground for bruce and a love interest it would take time to introduce and flesh out both characters, character and background time a modern action flick doesnt have far simpler to go down the tried and tested route of a female character to play both traits its a ploy that has always been used not always sucessfully but for me in BB it works well.

Cool thread. I'd do an approach MUCH like Burton did.

My cast:

Batman/Wayne- A big guy with a big build who can act
Joker- Johnny Depp or Hugo Weaving
Alfred- Anthony Hopkins
Two Face- Pierce Brosnan

Haven't thought of a female lead or a plot yet, that's coming soon.

If I had the chance to make my own Batman movie...

It would be somekind of detective crime drama set in the past ( 60's maybe ) with a Gotham City that would look like something similar to the New York of that era, but with a somewhat more "gothic" feeling to it... of course, it would also have a "fantasy" aspect to it. As for the actors, I think I would go with mostly unknowns, as I don't have anyone specific in mind at the moment for any of the roles.

As far as the villains are concerned, I would go with Clayface as the main baddie, with the Clock King as a side villain ( that would occupy the GCPD for most of the movie, while Batman is chasing Clayface and I would also add 1 or 2 mob bosses, like Black Mask for example ( in a cameo-like role ) ).

That would be sweet...

As I see more superhero movies getting made, the more I realize how, well, impossible it is to get a really perfect, a really definitive, adaptation, movie, of a character. Thusly, I've become more interested in seeing stand alone films that highlight, and nail just certain aspects or periods of the character.

For Batman, I have two distinct films I'd like to see...

Bill Finger's Batman
Personally, I would love to see a Batman movie based directly (and solely) on the classic Finger/Kane comics. Have it be a period piece set in 1940 and all, and just go wild with that interpretation of Batman in such a Noir setting.

Arkham Asylum
This would basically be a straight horror movie just starring Batman. I doubt the graphic novel is long enough for a proper film to be made out of direct adaptation, but with some filler and some slightly horrific expansion, it could really turn out to be an excellent horror film. Made even better if it follows McKean's perfectly eery and frightening art style.

I really don't have any idea about a cast or crew for either (although, McKean is pretty much a must for AA's director's chair), but those are the two I'd love to see.

I'd also really like to see film versions of Matt Wagner's Batman series; Monster Men/The Mad Monk. But I think they might be better suited for an animated, direct to video format.

My dream Bat Movie would be a live action feature film of Batman Beyond,

Clint Eastwood as Bruce Wayne:http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/8709/clinteastwoodvc4.jpg

Steven Strait as Terry Mcginnus:http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/797/thecovenant2di1.jpg

Mickey Rouke as Derek Powers:http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/6593/2005domino014xn0.jpg

Mila Kunis as Dana Tan:http://img394.imageshack.us/my.php?image=milakunisbiography2fw0.jpg

Susan Sarandon as Barbara Gordon:http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/4568/6029645bb4.jpg

Chris batista as Mr.Fixx I know it sounds cornie to have a wrestler but the punisher pulled it off nicely:http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/8179/batistainterview2005010bk9.jpg

STORY: Bruce stopped becoming batman because he blamed selena's kyle death on himself and he avenged her death which he did something he sworn to never do which is to take a life. 40years later into the future gotham city has advanced and becamed more corrupted then ever, crime is everywhere and there is no one to stop them, the police force is not enough to handle the ever lasting crime. So, now we meet a troubled young bad ass rebel named terry mcginnus which he comes out of detention center and his path crosses over with bruce wayne's. Bruce acknowledges the will and capacity of terry so bruce takes him under his wing and trains him to become the batman. Terry's purpose to become the batman is for redemption since he feels remorse of his dark past. Terry father's die by derek powers and that's where everything goes to hell. Bruce never assisted, but terry found the batman suit.

In my version this movie will be extremely dark for a rated pg-13 movie, it will have some curse words and it will focus on story yet it will have alot of action and fighting in it. The fighting will be simular to the bourne identity and casino royale only batman beyondnalized. This film is not for kids, it will be very darker then the cartoons and the final fight scene with terry and blight will be about 10minutes long....

PG.13 for intense action, some language, thematic elements, violence and disturbing images.

Batman- Christian Bale
Commissioner Gordon- Gary Oldman
Alfred- Michael Gough
Joker- Johnny Depp
Dr. Harleen Quinzel- Zooey Derschanel
D.A Harvey Dent- Liev Schrieber
Oswald Cobblepott- Bob Hoskins

*The architectural design of Gotham would be like the 20's
*The Batmobile would be the Batmobile from '89
*Batman's costume would be exactly like the one in Begins but grey
*It would be the darkest Batman movie ever to be made and it would be rated
R

I agree Arkham Asylum would make a killer movie. But it'll never happen on theatrical film.

Maybe an 80 minute cartoon for tv?

A fun thread btw.

My ideal Batman movie would still be directed by Nolan & Goyer with the whole cast of BB doing the movie Subzero or Mask of Phantasm.
Replace Andrea by Dawes but not make her a villain.

I don't get why people are so interested in seeing stories that have already been done simply translated from one media to another... It makes it look as if those people are more interested in certain stories than in the characters themselves ( not that it's a bad thing ), but I think that the characters are way more interesting. With that being said, I'd much rather have characters I "know and love" presented in different and unique stories, instead of seing different versions of the same story. That's just me though...

Excel, Depp is a great choice for Bruce Wayne. I've always thought this, that i'd love to have seen Burton do a Yr One film with Depp in the lead.

That's the point of these "dream" movies, though.

I mean, it seems like any time they set out to make a superhero movie these days, they set out to make a "definitive" version of the character. With scenes from the comics, and a "faithfully" told story and the whole nine yards.

With (some) of these "dream" movies though, you can actually do something crazy and different with the characters. You aren't bound to presenting the perfect picture of how everyone imagines them. You can go a little wild.

My idea for a Noir Batman movie set in the 40s is a good example; sure, it'd be based on the early comics, but, at the same time, it would be something you'd never see in a "normal" superhero movie. Putting the characters in a different time and situation, changes the entire dynamic.

Story: It would be a mixture of Batman Year One, Batman Begins and the Killing Joke with a few liberties taken.
- Gordon's Arrival taken completing out of BY1.
- Flashbacks of Bruce finding the cave just like BB, except replace Rachel Dawes with
Thomas Elliot(but will only appear in the one scene as a Kid).
- Bruce shown training in Martial Arts, I would have Vic Sage train. Bruce also is shown studying different Sciences, Criminology.
- Bruce befriends Fox, as well uses him the same way in BB. though out the movie he'll gain equipment to use, as well his suit.
- Commissioner Loeb Kills a prostitute named Holly Robinson.
- Jack Napier witnesses. Loeb catches him, and instead of Bring him to jail, he brings him to Falcone. Falcone gives him a Red cowl, and tells him if wants to live he will do as he says.
- Batman catches Catwoman investigating the murders. Batman chases her but Catwoman disappears.
- Gordon is Beat up by the cops like in BY1, same reason.
- Batman starts taking down Falcone's men. Which gets Falcone to call a favor on Commissioner Loeb. Loeb places Gordon on the case.
- Batman starts getting too close, and eventually butts head with the cops, who are trying to kill him. The scene in BY1 where batman is surrounded in a building by Cops is used here. This is also Batman's first meeting with Gordon.
- Falcone gives Red Hood a gun, and sends him to a chemical plant to steal some files for him.
- Red hood inside the plant with some of Falcone's men, opens a safe, to find that it's empty. Cops arrive. Followed by Catwoman, who overhears the cops say they found the murderer of the prostitute.
- Batman arrives also.
- Mobsters and cops wage a gun fight. Red Hood runs.
- Catwoman reaches Red hood first, but before she can Kill him, Batman stops her, a fight ensues. Red hood Scared runs away.
- Catwoman ties up Batman, and Chases after Red hood, who reaches a dead end. Again before Catwoman can kill him, Batman intervenes by throwing a batarang that misses Catwoman, and Hits Red Hood. Red falls of a ledge into a chemical vat. Catwoman leaves as Batman is distracted with the Red Hood's death.
- Cops finally catches up to find Batman is gone as well.
- Back at the Commissioner's office, Loeb is lighting a Cigar when a Figure comes out, Loeb asks who's there, the figure says he has a gift from Falcone. Bang, Loeb's Dead. We see a piece of a Black Mask.
- A week later Gordon is on a roof top. Batman Arrives. Batman ask Gordon up there. They talk(a combination of two scenes from BB. One is where Bruce sneaks in Gordon's office, and BB final rooftop scene). Gordon tells Batman that they didn't find the Red Hood's body, but found a gun, and ran some test on it and found that it belonged to Loeb. Batman Tells Gordon about Catwoman. Gordon laughs and throws a card at Batman. Batman asks what the card is, Gordan say's "they found it at a crime scene." the guy seems to have a flair for the theatric's, he killed Johnny Viti, between you, this clown and the woman you just told me, Gotham is going to the freaks." Batman looks at the card to see a Joker playing card. Say's his line from BB "I'll look into it" and takes off.

Cast: Bruce Wayne/Batman - Steven Strait
Gordon - Gary Oldman
Falcone - R. DeNiro/J. Caan
Catwoman - K.Beckinsale/Eva Green
Commish Loeb - Bill Duke/Dennis Franz
Red Hood - J. Gyllenhaal/T. Grace

CASTING -

Batman/Bruce Wayne - David Boreanaz
http://www.imdb.com/rg/name-headsho...00.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Boreanaz, David

The Joker - Jim Carrey (I still reckon he can pull it off.)
http://www.imdb.com/rg/name-headsho...84_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Carrey, Jim

Jim Gordon - Dennis Quaid
http://www.imdb.com/rg/name-headsho..._400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Quaid, Dennis

Harvey Dent - Ryan Phillipe (I really like the guy.)
http://www.imdb.com/rg/photos-name/...g.html?path=pgallery&path_key=Phillippe, Ryan

Vicky Vale - Charlize Theron
http://www.imdb.com/rg/name-headsho...0.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Theron, Charlize

Alfred Pennyworth - Michael Caine
http://www.imdb.com/rg/photos-name/...BD3487.jpg.html?path=gallery&path_key=0372784

LOCATIONS - Gotham City. Similar to Burton's take, only more noir, and more exagerated. Very stylizied. Skyscrapers that never seem to end. Clean contrasting lenses, that pick everything up.

COSTUME - Say.. Jim Lee's Batman meets movie Daredevil. Maybe even throw a little Dead End in, with a production scale x10 the size. Alex Ross could do some concept art. For the first time, I want a material/leather mask that was spandexy (like Electra's costume in Daredevil) to strech over the head, instead of a foam rubber mask. I'd want the matte gray cloth, with the black leather breakups (Gloves, trunks, boots.) I don't see any reason why he couldn't wear a subtle movie suit underneath (ala Spider-man, Superman Returns) or simply allow the actor enough time to bulk up enough that he doesn't need it. (For The Phantom, they'd developed a muscle suit for Billy Zane to wear, but he was in such good shape, he didn't need it.)

BATMOBILE - The one used during the Scott McDaniel run, where it was more similar to dragster than a Heart/Tank. I'd like it to keep some of the design features of the TNAS mobile though too.
1997toon-batmobileTheNewBatmanAdventures.gif

STORY - An origin story, linear narrative. Starts at them visiting Zorro, works through him travelling the world, before settling as Batman. Batman slowly emerges as the Guardian of Gotham City, fighting against the corruption of the police force and the mob. (I'd use the corrupt police force alot more than it's shown in Begins.) The only people not touched by the corruption is a lowly transfer named Jim Gordon, and the assisant District Attorney, Harvey Dent. Meanwhile, a failed comedian is pushed to crime, to try and support his family. He's horribly misfigured in an accident, set up to take the fall for the mob. They kill his family. It drives him insane. Joker goes on a suicide mission against the mob, all intentions of dying. Batman fights alongside him, then battles the Joker also. He gives the Joker a reason to go on. Batman begins to work with Gordon to take down the system. The buildup to some grand operatic duel where The Joker holds Gotham to ransom, and the only one who can stop him is The Batman. That was a pretty sloppy, rushed idea, but basically, origin + The Joker + gangsters would be my story. Let Loeb write a draft.

RELEASE DATE - Winter. Worked for Lord Of The Rings. All the McDonald's tie-ins and whistles. Anything to make sure this movie gets noticed.

Yeah, New York is called Gotham City too. It's far from being a gothic place. It's just the name of the city, not a direct description.

I love Johnny Depp as an actor, but he's not tough or macho enough to play Batman. He's a bit too slim, very pretty, and he's getting on a bit now you know.

My ideal Batman movie would have to have Catwoman or Poison Ivy in it, but I don't understand why Eva Green has become so popular to play one of them?! She's a great actress, but where have you seen any examples of her playing a similar role that assures you she would make a great Gotham villainess?!

Title: The Batman
Music: John Williams
My Batman film would be a mixture of Superman: The Movie, Batman Begins, and Batman (1989). Batman would have that touch of realism (BB)with more of a super hero film (S:TM, B89) Batman would have a grand theme that John Williams could deliver like he did in Superman: The Movie and Star Wars).
The sets would have kind of a retro 20's, 30's 40's, 50's, and now feel. Gotham City would be a mixture of the Gotham City seen in BB and BB 89.
The Origin story with Batman verses The Joker in a great climactic battle in Gotham City.
Cast:
Batman/ Bruce Wayne: Christian Bale
The Joker: Johnny Depp
Lt. Jim Gordon: Gary Oldman
Asst. DA Harvey Dent: Aaron Eckhart
Vicki Vale: Rachel McAdams
Alfred Pennyworth: Sir Anthony Hopkins
Carmine Falcone: Al Pacino
Commissioner Loeb: Albert Finney

Alec Baldwin circa 1994 = The Perfect Bruce Wayne (as everyone said at the time) Watch The Shaow, and tell me he isn't the perfect Bruce Wayne in all but name.

Peter O'Toole circa 1960s = The Joker
