If they actually build a working Tachikoma and not have it be CG, they get props for that.

from comic-con. hope they show more, doubtful though. apparently weta workshop generated more than 2000 designs for the film. I don't know much about production, but that's alot of practical effects right? I'm loving that they've gone with a more practical approach than cgi.

edit:
Another thing, the prosthetic body on display looks very similar to the designs from ghost in the shell innocence

So when can we expect the first trailer? The release isn't too far. October?

I have to say, I'm digging the look of everyone together.

Scarlett looks pretty good.

Beat Takeski as Aramaki was translated pretty well into live action. Love the hair.

Batou looks like Batou, minus the cyber eyes (wonder if they'll cg them in live action or they'll be some incident in the film which requires him to get them). His look was translated very well to live action and is definitely my favorite out of all the characters.

Borma's race is different, but he looks good. Glad he has the cyber eyes.

Saito looks pretty badass. Glad he has the "eyepatch". I like the goatee they gave him.

Togusa looks...interesting. Definitely older than his anime counterpart. At least he still has his mullet and gun. Maybe there's an in-movie reason for his age we don't know about yet. Not sure what to think so far. I'll wait and see how he turns out.

Ishikawa, surprisingly, looks pretty solid. From that image, They appeared to have nailed the look and feel of his character really well. The hairstyle. The tired, yet "I know what I'm doing", facial expression. His clothing and body language. I'm digging it.

Overall, really liking the overall look of Section 9's members. :)

OK, ScarJo does look like the anime character here, you can't deny this.

I finally managed to watch the original movie a couple months ago and it was a lot better than I was expecting it to be... for the most part.

Scarlett Johansson does look great, I hope she does the Major justice because she was such a kickass character.

As for the other dudes, I have no idea who Saito and Borma are so I'm assuming they come from one of the sequels, but the guy playing Togusa (he's supposed to be the younger agent with the brown hair, right?) looks way too old for the part.

I'll be honest, if you go by the character's art design in the manga and that movie, a japanese actress would actually look less like her, lol.

The casting looks very good for all of them. And these aren't even good quality pictures of what they look like (and probably unfinished if Batou's eyes are CG'd).

Beyond the controversy what I've seen so far has been very accurate. The major, aramaki ishikawa and saito look spot on, the rest are decent. Nothing wrong with keeping a open mind and giving this a chance.

Overall, the characters look pretty good. SJ as the Major looks great - very close to the anime. My only complaints involve Batou and Togusa. Batou doesn't look big enough and he is missing his prosthetic eyes. Since Borma and Saito do have them I'm assuming Batou won't at all. That's too bad. Regarding Togusa, as other have said, he looks too old.

Togusa was always pretty boy of the group. And was actually most normal one in the group. Having family. He was least-augmented member of Section 9. I dont know how it was in manga. He is only one who looks weird and out of the character here, but okay.

Rest of them looks great. Specially Major

Based on looks alone, Pilou Asbaek looks miscast as Batou. Not who I would've picked.

The guy as Togusa? No.

It seems like they're changing Togusa from being the "new kid" of the unit to being the unit's Roger Murtaugh. If so, interesting character change, could have potential, we'll see.

Damn, this looks amazing. Yeah, Togusa got older. But Major, Batou and Aramaki - wow...

Please don't suck.

IMHO, it's a bad choice.

Not sure what happened with #4.

I'm guessing a trailer is incoming. Looking good.

Why are there so many videos? I'm at work so I can't watch.

Because they only like 10 seconds long.

Dammit, they've hooked me. Wasn't a fan of ScarJo's casting, the director, or the early candid pics...but these short clips are damn awesome.

I've been dying for another big-budget take on cyberpunk, this may very well have to do until Blade Runner 2.
