Hmmm. At first, I thought this might join my other guilty pleasure cheesey sci fi flicks with a female lead, like Ultraviolet, Resident Evil, Aeon Flux, Lucy... But I was just bored after the first thirty minutes.

It's just the opposite. They ruined ScarJo's body with that cheap CGI.

Now I wish they would release a REAL BODY AND SUIT Edition on Bluray and I could skip the cgi version.

Not sure why everyone is so upset. The body suit they used on set looks like the shoulder pads are not supposed to stand out as much. Also, her fingers aren't covered up either.

I agree.

Link for the behind the scenes doc those pics came from please.

Screw it. They should have just had her be naked in all the fight scenes.

I was looking forward to this, so I'm definitely disappointed to read some of your thoughts. Still plan to see it in a week or so, if possible.

Just came back, I enjoyed it overall, some good scenes mixed with some bad ones, but I liked the world they created, and the story behind Major. Though I don't think [BLACKOUT]they quite sold the tragedy of what happened to Motoko to make her the Major[/BLACKOUT].

I did like the scene of her visiting her [BLACKOUT]mother though, I thought they played that scene pretty well[/BLACKOUT]. The action felt a bit neutered at times, I think they just should have gone ahead and made it R rated I think the movie would have benefitted.

I did like Scarlett in the role though, thought she sold every moment, and the supporting cast were pretty good too. I just thought the villain [BLACKOUT]should have been a bit more prominent in the story, Cutter barely had any scenes[/BLACKOUT].

Enjoyable overall though, and I would see a sequel for sure, 7/10.

Ghost in Shell budget was 110M. Movie for now made 60M WW. Domestically only 20M and grossing 40M internationally.

My guess is this will end up being flop on box office. But certainly not major one as total disaster. It could end up being saved by international market and possibly making it's budget back.

How could this bomb. i thought hollywood is not casting asian actors because movies bomb only with them? Maybe they should have added more white actors for supporting roles.

But hey its not that big of a deal . every year studios lose money.

I always do my own similar personal edits in my head, always with more Brazilian Jujitsu and less clothing. I am a purist.

I saw it today and enjoyed it overall, so it's still worth a watch imo.

The biggest takeaway from the movie for me was that Michael Pitt should be in more things.

Saw this today and surprisingly I thought it was decent, but you can tell it had a ton of potential. Visually it's stunning, but the story is dull and the action isn't anything special. Scarlett was ok, but her character is very flat and I honestly just didn't find her that engaging or compelling. I really liked the dude who played her partner though and Takeshi Kitano easily has one of the most badass, standout scenes in the movie. I also agree that Michael Pitt should be in more movies, because his character was pretty interesting and I wish he ended up being more of the central focus.

I'd give it a 6/10.

Yeah, Pitt is a pretty good actor. I know he has a rep for being difficult, but he can back up his alleged jerkass with talent.

Funny Games is a great movie to watch for Michael Pitt's acting.

They only think the film is going to make 150mil internationally. Eh, I'm still thinking 200+mil internationally and 45-48mil in North America.

Pitt is good but he was not in this movie. He didn't really do anything, others tried way harder than him

I think he was pretty good in this movie. He had very little to go with but his character had presence and he added an interesting layer of bizarre sympathy to Kuze.

For what it's worth, I saw this interesting thread on Reddit that alleges that an early pre-VFX cut of the film was much different and superior to the theatrical version. The early cut had more of an emphasis on the topic of consent, the interrogation and diving/atmospheric scenes were longer, and the Major's backstory was secondary to more philosophical questions.

Source for the thread is a commenter on the Dark Horizons website by the name of "Larry Sandwiches", who seems to be a respected/legit user based on the other commenters. So maybe plausible?

Take the internet with a big grain of salt, of course. But intriguing as to whether there'll be an extended or director's cut on the Blu-Ray. The movie had moments where it could have done great things, but it just never went for it.

He was definitely one of the more interesting parts of the movie, i thought it was a nice touch the way his speech kept skipping like a faulty machine would. It's a shame as i would like to see a sequel to this to explore him more.

It is interesting how Pitt and Gosling's careers have gone since Murder By Numbers.

They're both incredibly talented, though I'd give Pitt the edge in terms of acting ability. However, Gosling is more of a leading man type, thus why he's had more mainstream success. Though Pitt apparently isn't the easiest person to work with on set, so I guess that hasn't helped him.

Still though, after Funny Games, if I had Pitt in my movie, I'd put up with all of his BS. The guy is SO good when he wants to be.

Paramount Pictures exec says the casting controversy effected the movies box office

Kyle Davies, Paramount's domestic distribution chief, told CBC News “We had hopes for better results domestically”. “I think the conversation regarding casting impacted the reviews.”
