"Anime News Network and Anime Anime report that Production I.G, the studio that produced all of Ghost in the Shell's adaptations into anime (the two movies and the three Stand Alone Complex works) has received permission to develop a Hollywood adaptation of the Masamume Shirow created cyborg sci-fi. A new contract with rights holder Kodansha allows Production I.G. to represent the creators and negotiate distribution of a live action film.
The third Stand Alone Complex anime, Solid State Society, a movie that originally aired on Japanese pay-per-view, will receive its North American premiere at next month's New York Comic Con (February 23-25)."

as long as Bay has nothing to do with it...i say Go For It!!!

I really hope this happens. I wish studios would start taking more chances and big bidget sci fi films like this.

I'd go with Alex Proyas to direct it. And thats final dammit!

why make a movie? the anime is incredible and looks like they put a lot of money in it.

I don't really see a point in doing that.

they'll probably slaughter it.

What's the point in making this, the anime itself is amazing, so why bother making it a live action movie?

Pointless.

Ive never seen the Anime, has anyone got a trailer ?

When did they get to you ?:csad:

when did who get to me? wutcha talkin' bout, willis?

why NOT make the movie? it's not as if making a live action Ghost in the Shell movie is going to take anything away from the anime movies. fantasies are better if they seem real and movies are a form of escapism (fantasy). a lot of people can't relate to watching a cartoon. there are a lot of animes and cartoons out there right now that i would love to watch but either the artistic style isn't my taste or the animation sucks or whatever. not to mention, it's harder for me to connect with cartoon characters because they can't express the same kind of emotion a real person or even a CG character can. making anything live action brings it one step closer to reality...

...that's why i want this movie to be made, but only if it's done the right way.

Whoops Sorry Dorky i accidentally edited you post instead of quoting it:csad:

Thanks:up:

Being English ive never got that Willis joke:( i was referring to the Bay bashers:cwink:

i've never gotten the Willis joke either but i think it's a catchy phrase, hehe.

as far as Bay...i'm not bashing him. i just don't want him anywhere near Ghost in the Shell. i think he's gonna give us a kickass Transformers movie but it's pretty obvious that he doesn't care too much about making a faithful adaptation.

thank the computer gods for the "back" button, hehe.

Sounds good. I always wanted some more hollywoord versions of animes. After I saw the live action guyver.

LMAO.

It's from a popular tv show in the 80's called Different Strokes. Gary Colemans character use to say it all the time to his brother who's name was Willis. It was more about the look on his face and the way he said it.

As to a live action Ghost in the Shell, Im all for it.

Well green just solved it:woot:

I think it depends on what is being adapted but are you saying that you pick and choose what you want adapted faithfully ?:wow::cwink:

thank the computer gods for the "back" button, hehe.

Indeed *Phew*:D

So i watched the trailer,it all looks quite abstract and with a female lead,i wonder if Arnorfsky might be the guy for it

i knew that, green! i just forgot...haha. thanx!

no, even though Transformers is being drastically changed...i still think that, for the most part, they've been faithful. just not as faithful as i wish Bay would be. as for picking an choosing...no i don't think that way. i think all projects that are to be adapted must have a high level of faithfulness otherwise it'll end up like Catwoman or B&R. the whole reason for making a comic, novel, cartoon into a movie is because the audience likes the main ideas. the more you change those ideas the more you lose interest and the right to call it the name.

Aronofski huh? that doesn't sound too bad! he's a person that thinks outside of the box with the kind of complicated and deep scripts and visuals that's required to make Ghost in the Shell. i'd love to see what he'd do with it as long as he can deliver on the action (which is quite good in the anime).

i like the idea of Proyas too. i liked I-Robot and Dark City. my only concern with him is that he just did a futuristic movie...i don't know if he'd want to do another one. even if he does, there's the slight chance that he might make GitS's world too similar to I-Robots'.

i, personally, would love to see how Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Starship Troopers) or Luc Besson (Leon: the Professional, the Fifth Element) would approach this.

I agree,i was just wondering where you stood:up: Bay is totally wrong for this on more than just the faithful level IMO.....now if they make a Gears of War movie they better get him on the horn:woot:

He can do the sumptuous visuals for sure and he likes em deep but i have no idea about the action

Good point even though i think if you look at Dark City and I Robot he can switch it up

Besson is retired but Verhoeven would be an interesting choice but he usually plays it more brash than this seems

How about James McTeigue ?

?

McTeigue could work. i don't know how he is with creating futuristic worlds though. V for Vendetta was set in the future but it wasn't very futuristic, ya know?

Luc Besson retired??? that's too bad...i love his movies. it would've been awesome to see him direct this one.

seeing the trailer for Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" is starting to make me think he'd also be a pretty good pick.

I'm intrigued by the idea of a live action Ghost In The Shell, I think it would stand alone without taking anything away from the original.

I didn't think too much to the 2nd anime, but the Stand Alone Complex was ok - nothing compared to the original...that is, and always will be a masterpiece!

I class Ghost In The Shell as the best manga film ever made, taking into account how old it is etc. It's faster paced than Akira, and the fight sequences just piss all over anything else I've seen!

I am going to laugh when either: A) It doesn't happen or B) It does happen and the exact same people here are gonna be bashing it and saying how it sucked. Young Fellows you must realize one thing: Don't get expectations cause Hollywood only ruins it and makes a comerically viable product. They don't care about you they care about the entire population. Not a few million who know about the damn show.

someone needs a nap...sheesh. glad you find pleasure in other people's disappointment. anyway, just because we HOPE for something to happen doesn't mean we EXPECT it to happen. i also find it ironic you call us "young fellows" even though the 2 guys who've been posting the most in this thread are older than you.
