Nexon’s Ghost in the Shell Online Shooter Is Still Alive. November 19, 2014 . 6:31pm

Nexon’s Ghost in the Shell Online game is still alive. The company released a trailer for the game at G-STAR 2014.

Nexon’s Ghost in the Shell Online game is still alive. The company released a trailer for the game at G-STAR 2014, an annual game exhibition that takes place in Busan, Korea. Nexon are presenting a number of games at the event, and Ghost in the Shell is one of them.

The Ghost in the Shell MMORPG is based specifically on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime universe, and was expected to launch in the first half of 2014, but obviously that didn’t happen. The game is an online first-person shooter, and the last time Nexon talked about it—which was over a year ago—they said it would “integrate artificial intelligence with the player” in some sort of co-op battle mode.

Ghost in the Shell Online went into development after Nexon and Kodansha signed an agreement in 2012 to create games based on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex universe. Last we heard, the agreement gives Nexon access to content from Stand Alone Complex, 2nd Gig and Solid State Society. We’ll have more details of the game as they’re made available.

Ghost in the Shell Online Will Have Cyborg Customization. November 24, 2014 . 5:30pm

Ghost in the Shell Online has been in development since September of 2011, and Dungeon Fighter Online makers Neople have been responsible for development.

Nexon recently revealed that their Ghost in the Shell Online game is still alive, with a new trailer that was revealed at the annual G-STAR 2014 game exhibition. 4Gamer provides us with additional information on the upcoming online shooter.

Ghost in the Shell Online has been in development since September of 2011, and Dungeon Fighter Online makers Neople have been responsible for development since then, with Nexon being the publishers. According to the report, the consensus of fans in South Korea was that since it’s being developed by Neople, we shouldn’t expect much as far as graphics go, but the recent trailer has turned some heads and expectations alike.

The trailer shows off familiar characters like Motoko Kusanagi and Batou, but there’s a total of seven characters (all from Section 9) that will be playable, with their own special skills.

Additionally, Neople talked about a “Skill Share” system, where you’ll get to use skills, then have them “downloaded” by nearby allies. This brings a strategic element to the table, that will allow you to use skills for yourself, or as a way to support teammates.

In order to give the game more of a Ghost in the Shell-like feeling to it, the developers have also provided a cyborg customization system, that is said to boast over 5,000 different mixes.

The above is a look at some of the mecha that will be seen in the game’s PvE mode, which will also have plenty of other content familiar to fans of the Ghost in the Shell series.

Neople says that the game is in development with a goal to have it released sometime in the first half of 2015 for South Korea. A Japanese release is expected sometime soon afterwards.

While most of the video shows the developers talking a little bit about the game in Korean, you can catch a few glimpses of the action like the support feature shown at the 1:46 mark of the video, where they show a cyborg helping out in the battle.

“We put in a lot of effort into reproducing the attractive world setting [of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex] in the game,” said project director Jung Ik Choi. “In order to bring a more realistic feeling to damage, we’re placing great importance ion things such as part destruction.”

“To better express the reality of an actual battlefield, we went to the deserts of the Nevada in the United States, so we could get detailed recordings of the sound of gunshots,” added sound director Sun Joong Kim.

Finally, Neople general producer In Lee stated, “As Neople’s first FPS, this is a project in which we have a lot of pride. While the first tests will take place in South Korea, we plan to advance to a global release, and the actual service will start with North America.”

That Ghost in the Shell shooter is coming to Steam

November 24, 2015 19 Comments

The nominees for this year’s most ridiculously long game title are as follows: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online. Actually that’s it, there’s just one nominee, because who in their right mind slaps a game with such a lengthy moniker?
Nexon does, apparently, and it wants you to know that GitS:SAC-FAO (sorry, I’m not typing all that crap again) is coming to Steam. I have no idea when it’s coming to Steam, because Nexon’s press release fails to mention that bit of info. I suppose you can add it to your wishlist and be notified later, though.
GitS:SAC-FAO players will join Section 9, an elite force of cybernetically enhanced badasses who fight terrorists on the “neon-drenched streets of a futuristic Japan.”''

The Ghost in the Shell online shooter is live now on Steam

December 14, 2015 12 Comments

Say this one ten times fast: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online is live today on Steam’s early access platform. The EA packs run from $4.99 to $29.99, though there’s a steep price cut for the middle tiers right now.
Nexon and Neople consider this phase a beta and have asked for feedback; they’ve also addressed why such an iconic IP has been turned into an online shooter:
With such a wealth of great content covered in Stand Alone Complex, picking a genre was no easy feat. However, while watching the series we were particularly excited by Episode 24 of Season One, in which the wrongfully accused team at Section 9 are tested to their limits, forced to take on an opposing Special Ops team in order to clear their names. This episode really made us imagine what it would be like to fight together as a perfectly synchronized team like Section 9, which helped us decide to bring that fantasy to life in a tactical team based shooter.

Ghost in the Shell Online adds a new operative, a new map, and new guns

January 16, 2016 4 Comments

There’s a new operative in town for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online (or just Ghost in the Shell Online if you’re into the whole brevity thing). The latest update to the early access shooter brings Maven into the playable character roster. Maven can deploy barriers to prevent enemies from seeing what’s on the other side, although the barriers can be destroyed.

The update also adds a new deathmatch map, the Port, which serves as a smaller skirmish area for teams to face off. Several new weapons are also added as well, along with the first iteration of the Ghost Screen to display your post-battle performance. It’s a pretty substantial update to the game, and the future promises further improvements and newer maps for players.

Ghost in the Shell Online spotlights Maven

February 9, 2016 22 Comments

Whom will you play in Ghost in the Shell Online? This week, the game is making the case for white-haired Maven, a talented special ops soldier with a handy therm-optic barrier that obscures sight and protects her team from the enemy. Maven is the most recent addition to the game’s early access program.

According to her description, “Maven is an expert on guerilla warfare and topography, stemming from her time in the South American military. She first came to Chief Aramaki’s attention during an operation in which she single-handedly held off an insurgent attack after her entire squad was killed. Since then, she has been working for Section 9, where she has proven both resourceful and deadly. However, her troubled past is never far away. She has vowed to destroy the rebel group that ravaged her country and killed her family.”

You can watch Maven’s spotlight video after the jump.

Ghost in the Shell: First Assault is now in open beta

July 28, 2016 14 Comments

Online shooter Ghost in the Shell: First Assault: Stand Alone Complex Online is going to take home this year’s award for most unwieldy title for sure.

In the meantime, it’s launching into open beta this very day on Steam and off.

It’s free-to-play, note, with microtransactions, so it’s not going to cost you anything but bandwidth and time to try.

Publisher Nexon says that it’s launching a new patch today in conjunction with the beta. Called “Up Close and Personal; Hand of Destiny,” it introduces exclusive character Kuro and a prototype map akin to the Ghost Assault mode coming in a future update.

Nexon also mentions it’s tackled a number of issues with the game since its early access launch late last year, including a skill and weapon rebalance, several new maps, and improved UI. Check out the trailer below!

Ghost In The Shell Online Dev Team Hints At Tachikoma Mount. July 29, 2016 . 1:30pm

During a developer Q&A on Twitch, Game Director Jung Eik Choi discussed Tachikoma customization.

8 comments Read >

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online entered Open Beta today, and as players dove into the experience many took notice of a Tachikoma tab in the game’s menus.

During a developer Q&A on Twitch, Game Director Jung Eik Choi hinted that players will be able to ride a Tachikoma soon.

When asked if there were any updates on PvE, Choi noted that news about a co-op experience in the MMO would be forthcoming. Then, Choi continued by saying that in addition to PvE, the development team is working on a mountable Tachikoma.

“I’m sure a lot of players have noticed the Tachikoma customization. That is also a part that we want to include, and players will be able to mount that Tachikoma and use it in battle,” he said.

First Assault Community Manager Lumos followed up the response by saying it was a “big hint” about what’s to come. She also confirmed a Tachikoma customization blog post will be forthcoming with additional details.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online is currently in open beta on Windows PC via Steam.
