Hair's tough. I have one tutorial saved that does it with channels, but it looked like a pain in the butt, so I've never actually done it. Depending on the picture, I've been having fun with the background erase tool. I'll PM you the channel tutorial to try if you want. I can't wait to see the finished piece. Nick Castle and his stubble drive me crazy - so crazy that I hardly notice the silly movie surrounding him. ;)

I did a tutorial with channeling on the weekend, and unless you've got a perfect background, its a pain in the ass. But thanks, I'll check out to see if yours is the same as the one I had.

Tom's hair is so wild in The Fog that its hard to get it just right, but I added a glow to it, which I hope distracts you from the imperfections. So here ya go!!

Actually the one I sent you wasn't using channels, that's just mentioned at the beginning. It's a really cool tute though, I'm going to try it as soon as I get this WACOM tablet installed.

Mmm.. so pretty. I love the shots you chose - the big smile, and the more serious sexah stare - interesting choices. That font is nice too. Did you use a gradient on it? I like the colors.
The only thing that bothers me a little are the little spots left from the technique on his face. They look great on his stubble, but not so much on his forehead. Sometimes those distract me. If I do that technique I either mask those or blur them a bit.

Thanks and yeah, I did use a gradient on it.

Funny! I have one of those screens that has a high gloss to it, they're a bugger to keep clean, but they do make things looks "nice" and I cant see anything on his forehead, but I'll go back to it and see if I can smooth it out a bit more, but I think I've already flattened the layers.

Beautiful subject and beautiful piece of art! :yay:

Thanks Twistim.

Bummer. I always save things as .psd in one folder, and as a .jpg in another.

Well, I do that.... but with that particular technique you need to flatten the two layers. I've been fiddling with it, but I'm doing it blind, because I cant see what you're seeing. :O

But here it is again.

I guess we just do it differently then. I don't flatten them. But what I do do is apply a mask to the top one and erase the effect in areas that I think it's too strong - like the eyes; and then I usually use the smudge on low strength and tiny little nudges on the bottom layer in areas where the brown spots are too obvious.

I'm not sure if that makes sense to you. :D

Btw, I didn't mean you had to change that for me. It's perfectly fine just as you posted it. I think we all put our own spins on our artwork. It's funny how we might be seeing things differently on our different monitors though.

Well I dont apply the mask, but I do the smudging on like 25%, but I honestly, other than the stubble which I liked, couldnt see anything on that image, because I didnt have the darken setting all the way up.

It does. :yay:

Well I dont want it to look crappy, and if in your opinion it didnt look right, then I wanted to fix it. :woot:

It certainly didn't look crappy!
That's weird that you can't see the spots. I'm not saying they're bad, just that it's weird that you can't see them with your monitor. Geez, maybe I just need to clean MY monitor! ;)

Mmmmm.... more shirtless Clark please...

^yowza. Haven't gotten that OR him kissing Lana (other than in Bizarro). :csad: What's up with TPTB?

And why does he need a watch, anyway? You'd think he'd have a pretty good innate sense of time by now, based on where the sun is.

I dunno? Guess they like to see us squirm. LOL

Funny dat, 'cause I *think* the reason Clark wears a watch is because... Tom Welling wears one. :D I'm not being flip. It's pretty rare to not see a watch on his wrist. Even those Paparazzi pictures - where it was obvious he *just* woke up - watch? Check! :hyper:

YES!

That's beautiful, Deb.

Thanks Rene! :woot:

Smiling... frowning... happy... sad... strong... sensitive... That's usually my reaction! He is always delicious.

Beautiful picture, BTW.

Thanks! I just love seeing that smile. It's so real. :cwink:

Oh that's so nice Sue! That right pic looks most like my brother. More full face and the chin dimple showing. That's my bro...lol...
You did a great job on this. Love the pic choices. I don't see spots on this monitor but at home I see all my tiny issues. I have been trying to get the spots off the Clana wall I'm working on. The pic is so dark that the spots became more noticable. My work screen is dark and not very sharp. I usually have to fix my work when I get home. I like Nick pics! He was more like Tom. I wish he'd be in more movies while on hiatus but I know he's a busy man and needs his rest when he can get it.

I'm going to try it as soon as I get this WACOM tablet installed.

You got the Wacom? I love mine. I don't know what I'd do without it. That pen makes all the difference in my precision. Easier to use than a mouse. My wireless mouse that came with it is not scrolling very well anymore and what pisses me off is I can't open it to clean or fix it like a regular mouse and the replacement is too expensive. Still, I love my Wacom!

Mmmmm.... more shirtless Clark please...

HOT HOT HOT!!! WHEN are we gonna get some REAL shirtless this season? I mean, the full body view??? AND?....Lana and Clark are living together! WHY are we not seeing more than a peck on the cheek? :whatever:

I did! I got it for my birthday, but I've yet to install it. I've just been crazy busy lately. Maybe I'll get to it later tonight.

In the meantime... here's my latest Tom - Man, Myth, and Magic.

Wow! You must have a hunky brother. :wow:

And yeah its nice to see Tom playing a grown up, he's so handsome and that stubble, tres sexy.

That is the reason why I applied that darkening technique, to emphasize the stubble

Very nice!! Funny you put the sparkles on his face. I did that with the one I just did but I erased them. It didnt really suit. I love that effect with that picture though, its gorgeous.

I even like the spotty grains on the face :p :cwink: :woot:

Wow... That is beautiful!

His eyes are SO expressive... I love them "concerned, mischevious, and loving... like when he is looking at Lana... *sigh* And when he is "not himself" they can be so INTENSE...

He is so freakishly HOT, he COULD be an alien! :woot:

No wonder all the girls in Clark's life are so accepting... who wouldn't be?!

Thank you. I intentionally added the slight grain because I liked the overall effect with the black background.

ITA. I've always thought that Superman needs to be far beyond the average man in all ways: honor, honesty, strength, abilities, and yes...physical appearance. Tom has that physical appearance thing down in spades!

Of course, I agree with you about the look he gets in his eyes when he looks at Lana. It's very special - and yes, I know it's supposed to be, but it still makes my heart melt, every time.

Oh you are gonna soooo love that pen! It's a whole new World.
Oh I LOVE that cap! Beautiful job on that one Rene! What epy is that? He's sooo beautiful there. Those eyes! They look like beautiful marbles! Those lips! I just want to suck on them! Those beautiful brows! *Sighs* Awesome piece!

I was watching "Subterranean" yesterday and I just couldn't get enough of Clark at the DP with Chloe (IN THE WHITE TEE SHIRT!!!! ...:p ...) at the end when she was telling him about being a hero and all. His expressions and those big beautiful puppy eyes like in that art piece you just did, just got me crazy! I kept rewinding that scene over and over again. The man is just so freakin' gorgeous! *sighs*

Wow! You must have a hunky brother. :wow:

My brother always was attractive. He's not as tall as Tom and his hair is a tad lighter brown but he looks a lot like that pic of Tom you used.

Hey Sue! Did you ever look into that Wacom mouse pen and tablet? I think it was you I was chatting about it once with. Didn't you have a son who's into graphics and knows about the graphics pen?

I think its from Ageless. At the end where Clark is talking to his parents.

My son, who frequents the Apple Store on a regular basis, told me they had them there, so I went down to check it out and see if I could sample it but I couldnt find them anywhere.

Anyway, I've put it on my Wishlist for Christmas. :woot:

Oh...I love my pen. They carry them at Best Buy here as well. I don't use it with surfing but for my art, it's always 'in hand" :cwink: My hubby wishes he was a Wacom!

LOL!!! :woot:

I wished I'd had it the other day when I was doing my latest Lana piece. I was trying ever so hard to get her hairline straight, but with the ol' touch mouse its very difficult at times.

Well I use it for getting every pixel cleaned up where I want to. It's a great thing to have as a graphics artist. Makes it more pleasant.

I'm on a little vacation and with little net access but I had to peek in to see the great art you've been posting. I loved every piece! Thanks Deb, Sue, Pat and Rene! I adore the gorgeousness of the subject and the art is AWESOME!
