Battle
Location: Wayne Manor
The Gods and Men teleported into the extravagant dining hall in the Wayne Mansion and at first awed at the sight. Similarly, the Exiles were teleported to the other dining hall the mansion held. After overcoming their awe, the Gods and Men moved into action. Not far from them, the Exiles split up themselves in order to search their opponents.
“Remember, we’ll want to make sure they’re separated.” Dr. Fate telepathically relayed to each of his team members. His basically being the head of this operation meant he was thrust into the planning role, a role he reluctantly accepted. A role that according to Kent Nelson belonged with the mantle of Fate. Hector just wanted to kick Dr. Light’s ass and get it over with.
Magik, meet Deathstroke
Magik teleported herself around the Wayne Manor, first acquainting herself with the area before she started to search for the opposing team. Not before long she came upon the man they called Deathstroke, her target for this match.
“Exiles? I don’t care much for irony.” Magik said the words with venom as she suddenly teleported behind the Terminator and grabbed him, teleporting him along with her. She decided their battle would be best fought in the Batcave.
Are you afraid of the dark?
“Home of Bruce Wayne, the Batman. I wonder if he has a girlfriend…” Dr. Light mused as he levitated himself and moved through the building. Unlike his Society team-mate Deathstroke, Dr. Light didn’t take all of this too seriously, after all, now that he was whole again, he could take anyone. After this tournament he would go and kill the Titans, Green Arrow and if he felt like it, he’d probably off Deathstroke too.
“Hello, Doctor.” Arthur Light suddenly came face to face with the menacing figure of Dr. Fate emerging from the shadows at the end of the hall. Magic energy was crackling around his hands. A feeling of fear gripped Dr. Light’s heart before his mouth contorted into a grin that spoke of his newfound confidence.
“A hero. You don’t know what they did to me.”
“Are you kidding me? I’m Dr. Fate, Arthur.”
“How did you? Oh, magic.”
“Magic.”
You’re a hound dog
As soon as the Gods and Men had spread themselves out, Indigo activated her sensors in search of her target, Animal Man. Of course, the Titan of Tomorrow was prepared and had shape shifted himself into a small worm, almost completely undetectable and discernable from the other insects in the Manor.
So, Indigo wandered somewhat aimlessly through the mansion when suddenly in a split second a tiny worm became a lion, leaping at the android. Luckily, Indigo had thrown up her force fields ahead of time and came prepared as the lion harmlessly bounced off the force field.
“Animal Man.”
“The one and only.” at this the green furred man revealed a toothy grin. Unbeknownst to Indigo, Buddy Baker was deceased in the time that this Gar Logan came from, dead at the hands of this new, stronger, more feral Animal Man.
Man and machine
Unlike his android partner, the Vision was immediately able to lock onto his target, the green haired villain Trevor Fitzroy, who was enjoying the lavish chair in the study room of the Wayne Manor. Within moments, the Vision had phased through the walls and ceilings, appearing before the Chronomancer.
“They sent the android, good move.” Fitzroy spoke as he grinned, knowing full well that he could not absorb the android’s life energy, since the android was after all, not human. Admittedly, the Vision had not planned on this, since neither he nor his fellows had any concrete information on the man sitting before him.
God and master
Seeing that his mobility would be quickly hindered by the mansion, Thor used the mansion’s first exit to travel to the grounds outside. Fighting his opponent, Magneto would be a task within itself, but the mansion would only confine him and limit him. He was certain Magneto would feel the same way.
To his surprise however, it was not the Magneto he knew but an energy being that came outside and came to stand a small distance away from the thunderer. He was completely made of energy, and Thor knew then that this battle would be harder than he previously had thought. Being completely made out of energy would undoubtedly give Magneto a greater control of his powers.
Mjolnir, who would normally be extremely useful against a being made out of energy was now rendered useless. Magneto had manipulated the Uru metal the hammer was made of once before, and this feat would be undoubtedly easily repeated with this Magneto’s heightened powers. Before either spoke a word, Thor threw the hammer away from the grounds, so that it would still be at his beck and call, but could not be used against him.
Battle in the Batcave: Part I
“Finally… the Batcave.” Deathstroke couldn’t help but exclaim as he looked around at all the equipment, the Batmobiles, everything. Magik could only mutter a few indistinct words as she leaped at Deathstroke immediately gaining his attention and starting off their battle.
The advantage however, was Deathstroke’s, who quite easily parried most of Magik’s moves, but refrained from yet dealing any significant blows. Magik, who recognized the fact that she was being toyed with tried to conjure up a few spells in order to mess with Deathstroke, but his moves were sufficient each time to break her concentration.
“I thought you were a man that didn’t toy with his enemies.” Magik said as she tried a different route than her magics to get to Deathstroke.
“You’re like my daughter.” Slade simply replied as he stepped up his game and blocked each of Magik’s strikes and went in for the kill. Magik only narrowly evaded the lethal capability of the slash, but first blood was drawn.
“How nice.” she simply replied with a grin as she continued, but mixed up her moves, trying a sweep at Deathstroke’s legs. The strike he made to counter as he jumped up would’ve shattered her shoulder if it weren’t covered in armour.
The two continued in this game, but before long Deathstroke got another hit in, and another, and another. In contrast to the panting and bleeding Magik was the still physically fit and unhurt Deathstroke, whose superior skills with the sword were only aided by his superhuman reflexes.
“This game is over.”
“Tell me about it.” Magik replied as she drew a grin once more and before Deathstroke could stab her, she teleported away to one of the nearby Batmobiles. She did the magic equivalent of lock picking and stepped inside the car. Inside, she could only be awed at the equipment herself.
“Sweet…” she could only exclaim as she put the car into gear and drove straight for the Terminator. Of course, he would not be the assassin he was if he couldn’t avoid such an obvious attack and jumped onto the hood of the car. Knowing the car would be bullet proof, Deathstroke simply sought for the weak part of the car’s roof and drove his sword into it. Something he didn’t expect however after that action was the car going violently out of control.
Teleported safely away, Magik gripped her bleeding abdomen and although she winced in pain, her face still held that infernal grin as she spoke the words that would set the car completely aflame in a fire that would not be doused by conventional methods. She was rather proud of herself until she saw the figure of Deathstroke emerge from the flames.
“You can’t be serious.”
Light in the darkness: Part I
There wasn’t much energy that Dr. Fate could throw at the other Doctor without it being deflected, but a fortunate side-effect of its magical properties was that Dr. Light was incapable of simply sucking the energy out of Dr. Fate like had done to Superboy in his grand battle with the Teen Titans.
Another lucky thing was that Dr. Fate was from being limited to just energy blasts. He decided to stay away from illusions, so after all, Dr. Light was the master in that area. What Dr. Fate could quite easily do however, was manipulate the mansion around them and using it to distract Dr. Light, even though he easily destroyed each obstacle in his path.
For every construct that Dr. Light sent Dr. Fate’s way, the magic doctor had one of his own that could easily counter the hard-light projections. Similarly though, their force fields were an easy match for one another, at least, in this early stage of their battle.
Animal rage
Animal Man tried and tried but to no avail as each attack was easily blocked, and he was kept at bay again. He himself often dodged her attacks as well, but more often that not, they hit. His position as the offensive force in this confrontation meant that he was often more open to her attacks, giving her the advantage.
As the battle progressed however, her advantage became increasingly more clear. Her analytical computer mind allowed her to process the data she collected about Animal Man and work into a successful plan of attack.
Carefully choosing the trajectory from her eyes and hand energy blasts allowed her to hit Animal Man in such a manner and with such force that he was unable to quickly shift into a smaller form and dodge, knocking him to the ground. The following step was to simply unleash a barrage of energy upon him, knocking him out.
Time and time again
The battle between the android Vision and the mutant Fitzroy was conducted in a less tactical manner. The mutant powers of Fitzroy were ineffective against the android, and as such, he was dependant on his omnium mesh body armour, granting him a degree of super strength, invulnerability as well as the ability to become invisible.
The Vision however had more than just his optical sensors and was still capable of tracking down Fitzroy, nor was the armour’s enhanced strength useful against neither Vision’s diamond-hard skin or his phasing. The invulnerability Fitzroy had was much more easily taken care of however as Vision’s phasing disrupted the machinery in the armour, rendering it useless. It did not take long for Vision’s hand to reach the criminal’s heart and using his usual tactic, made Fitzroy’s body spasm before it lost consciousness.
The thunder meets its match
“It was wise of you to remove the hammer from my influence Thunder God, it would’ve only did you harm.” Magneto spoke as he engaged Thor in combat. None of his usual tricks, such as using the iron in Thor’s blood to reverse the blood flow, worked on this Asgardian thanks to his unique body. Now, with Magneto pouring on the energy, it was simply a test of endurance for the Thunder God as he edged ever closer to the form of Magneto
Of course, what Magneto didn’t know as he struggled with Thor was that Mjolnir had not travelled as far away as Magnus had thought. Focusing on the battle with Thor was keeping his tuning to the electromagnetic spectrum from noticing Mjolnir until it was too late.
In a sudden flash, the hammer had flown into Thor’s hand, before Magneto could exert his control over the hammer. Mjolnir held many powers, chief amongst them the ability manipulate the weather as a more controlled manifestation of Thor’s own abilities. What Magneto did not know however was another interesting capability of Mjolnir, the ability to act as an energy siphon, including the magnetic energy Magneto controlled, and was made out of.
Thor grimaced as the foe before him vanished, the energy form sucked into the hammer. Perhaps Mjolnir’s mystical properties could somehow retain Magneto’s sentience together with the absorption of the villain’s energy form, but Thor could not know for certain. He only knew that this was a battle that he had not won so easily, and would definitely not win in such a manner a second time.
Battle in the Batcave: Part II
Deathstroke had just come out of the flames of the Batmobile’s wreckage, his skin burned and his clothes tattered. Magik was close to exhaustion herself and could barely stand as a result of the two’s earlier battle. She could at least take comfort in the fact that Deathstroke would kill her quickly, at least, that was what she hoped.
She tried once more to teleport away but her exhaustion, as well as the blood steadily leaving her body, were unable to sustain a stepping disk through which she could escape this danger. Cold and without remorse, Deathstroke was however not without his own touch of sinister humour as he grabbed Magik’s blade from the ground where it had fallen. In a single moment, it was over, and Magik’s lifeless body fell to the cold hard floor of the Batcave.
For Deathstroke however, the battle was long from over as the phantom-like appearance of the Vision phased through the roof of the cave. At the same time, Indigo entered via the secret passageway. It was a battle that the Terminator could not win, but he nonetheless tried.
As soon as he approached the Vision however, he could already feel that hand phasing into his chest, and in a quick moment, his body fell to the floor as well. Not dead, but unconscious.
Light in the darkness: Part II
To Hector Hall’s anger, he wasn’t really getting anywhere, and he was certain that Nabu was laughing from whatever afterlife he lived in. Heck, the Nabu that Hector’s subconsciously created in Fate’s helm was laughing at Hector, and if there was one thing that Hector couldn’t stand, was people laughing at him. Perhaps in some manner, he was similar to Dr. Light in a sense.
Except Hector wasn’t an insane misogynistic bastard that revelled in his villainous actions, and it was ultimately what gave Hector his edge. Using the righteous anger at his disposal, Hector unleashed magics he had not tapped into since his battle against the Curse. The magics he held at his disposal personified the rage Hector felt as he remembered the face of Ralph Dibney at Sue’s funeral.
Vengeance was always the job of his supernatural partner the Spectre, but tonight, Dr. Fate dealt in vengeance as his magics burst through the force fields Dr. Light had set up. Moments later, the body of Dr. Light limped to the floor. Tears streamed down his face for his mind finally left consciousness.
“Hector?” the voice of the newly arrived Vision spoke. “Are you alright?”
“I will be.”
