The rules:
This is one of four threads containing matches.
Due to the holiday, these threads will be in use for 9 days. Days 1-4 (Feb 23 - Feb 26) are strictly setup time for owners to plead their cases, tell us their team’s strategies, breakdown the match ups, and do whatever else they can/want to do to try and convince you that their team would pull out a victory. Please, let the owners do this on their own with no help.

On Day 5 (Feb 27) I will post and tell everyone that voting may begin. Any votes cast before I open voting will not count. Look over the matchups and read the strategies, and take into consideration how in-character each character is. Afterwards, use your best judgment to decide who you think has the best chance to win the match. (Note: The length of a writeup the discretion of the owner. Do not punish owners just for having a shorter writeup.)

To vote, post the team names you think will prevail in each match. Remember to vote for all matches or your vote will not count! The teams with the highest vote total at the end of the 9th day (Mar 2) will get a W while the other will get an L. (Equal votes will result in a tie.)

Mistress Gluon
B'wana Bet?

In a very close call I'm giving this one to the Gluon. I was this close to going the other way. But the more I kept thinking about it, the more I was convinced Gluon's team would hold up better. Maybe not her regs, but Warbird could handle them.

Gog's got the better lineup of lower characters. Either Ares or Cyborg Supes again Adam is a pretty even fight. The wildcard here is Flash. But I think he'll have a hard time against either uber. Gog's team should be able to help.

Mistress Gluon wins on the strength of the lower-level characters, since the uber matches are reasonably close in my view. Last Chancers don't even have a medium, and those regs don't exactly wow me.

B'wana Bet wins on the basis of what I'd say is a slightly more powerful lineup. His ubers are a bit more versatile (although Flash in particular could be tough to deal with), and I think Iron Man's smart enough to find a way to beat Blue Beetle. Batman One Million is going to be tough for the regs to beat as well, and if he's sharing his future tech with Iron Man that makes things all the worse for the Nameless Wonders.

Why is Gog still being allowed to use TWO illegal characters?

The ruling that Cyborg Supes can't use the rings came after his lineup was posted, I think. I've deleted the reference to the rings from his roster and PMed him to notify him that Cyborg Supes won't have the rings in the playoffs.

Who's the second illegal character?

Iron Man/Mother Box. It was ruled too insubstantial a long time ago, since it was based on like one panel.

Was it? I can't find the ruling. Searching the Rankings thread for the words "Iron" and "Mother", I find:

Like I said before, if it's limited to the abilities we saw in the comic (like 'protect their users from more esoteric attacks, open Boom Tubes, heal (which takes time), and perform scans') then he'd still be a Mid.

But if he's getting full Mother Box powers like technology generation and armor upgrades, he'd be an uber (like Tony using his more powerful armors is).

Iron Man with Mother Box is a Middleweight (but the Mother Box must be limited to what was just seen in the comics that we discussed, otherwise it's too unpredictable)

Here's what Gog said about how the Mother Box was used in the comics:
I skimmed the first two issues of JL/A yesterday. There, Iron Man uses Mother Box to Boom Tube between dimensions (possibly aided by the device he'd previously come-up with), fight inconclusively with Aquaman, use his enhanced sensors to tag the Flash, and use the element of surprise to blast WW and Kyle, who were winning their bouts with Photon and Quasar, securing the item they all were after, though he comments they'd recover shortly.

Oh, and he beats Captain Atom and Green Arrow off-panel, although Hawkeye uses his anti-rad arrow on CA first.
That makes it sound like he had it for at least a few fights, but I can't really tell how much of the issue those fights took up. I haven't read the JLA/Avengers crossover.

It was really a tiny appearance, far smaller than the alternate Midnighters I wasn't permitted to have, for example, and Khel and I were both under the impression that he'd been banned.

No, IM with Box was never banned. You're imagining things again.

Well, like I said, I've searched and haven't been able to find an official ruling from Wieg saying he's out. But if you can find it, or if Wieg comes on here and confirms he made such a ruling, then that's fine. Edit: Just saw Wieg's comment saying he wasn't banned

For what it's worth, I just looked back at the discussion of the alternate Midnighters. It wasn't all a matter of how big their appearances were. The future Midnighter wasn't allowed because he apparently never really existed. The version mind controlled by Bendix was argued not to be distinct enough. Wieg was going to allow the reverse gender one as sufficiently distinct, but Khell objected:
Khellendros said:
Again, the reverse gender Midnighter appeared on, what, four pages total? No dialogue, no fighting, just standing around.
That sounds like even less of an appearance than Iron Man w/ Mother Box, who (according to Gog) actually fought people.

But anyway, Wieg never officially ruled the reverse gender Midnighter illegal, because immediately after that Harl pointed out that there are pre and post Worldstorm versions, and then everyone was happy.
