The rules:
This thread will be in use for 5 days. Days 1-3 are strictly setup time for owners to post their battles, plead their cases, tell us their team’s strategies, breakdown the match ups, and do whatever else they can/want to do to try and convince you that their team would pull out a victory inside of 2 posts. Please, let the owners do this on their own with no help. Debating cannot begin until both owners post battles.

On Day 4, I will post and tell everyone that debating may begin. Each owner has one post to rebut their opponent's match, and another to correct any issues of their opponent's rebuttle. One 2 rebuttle posts are allowed for each opponent.

On Day 5, I will post and tell everyone that voting can begin. Any votes cast before I open voting will not count. Look over the matchups and read the strategies, and take in to consideration how in-character each character is. Afterwards, use your best judgment to decide who you think has the best chance to win the match. (Note: The length of a writeup is at the discretion of the owner. Do not punish owners just for having a shorter writeup.)

To vote, rate each team's writeup and arguments between 1-10 (0 is reserved for non-writeups). The team you think will win should get the higher score (tie scores are not allowed). Remember to vote for all matches or your votes will not count! The teams with the highest point total at the end of the 7th day will get a W while the other will get an L. (Equal scores will result in a tie.)

Prep-time

Ok so there is little advantage this world can pose to either team. There is however an advantage for HOTNA in the fact that they’re all heroes. Or anti-heroes. Where as The Bad Byrds are a mix of heroes and villains which could make team work a bit tricky.

The advantage for the Byrds would be that Comedian isn’t known by HOTNA. This isn’t a problem however as I have 2 characters with healing factors and I have a flier.

The 5 arrive on a strange planet. Batman, having full knowledge of GL recognises the planet as Zamaron.

4 characters are well versed with each other through previous battles…there’s a new member they’re not sure of

Deadpool – “Hey guys. Where’s the buffet?’

Batman steps forward – “Identify yourself”

Deadpool – “I’m the Easter bunny. And let me guess, you must be…Hmmm dressed like a Bat but you’re a Man…I’ve got it!!! Sandra Bullock?!”

Atom – “Great this is all we need…don’t we have enough to worry about without having to keep an eye on this clown too?”

Deadpool – “Seriously where is the buffet? I’m starving”

An image of the opponents appears.

Batman recognises Mirror Master and Cain. Deadpool recognises Captain America and Luke Cage.

Deadpool – “Cap looks different!”

Zauriel – “Wasn’t he on our team before?”

Batman – “He looks different”

Atom – “We’ve seen him fight, surely we should have some preparation for him.”

Batman just stared at the images.

Deadpool – “He’s got that look on his face…so serious”

Atom – “Yep”

Deadpool – “I have that look on my face when I’ve just farted too”

To be continued…

Battles

The battle kicks off. Instantly Zauriel takes to the skies but after some warning about Cain and his sharp shooting skills.

Deadpool turns to Batman and pats him on the back “Tig…you’re it”

He runs off, Batman just sighs…

The Byrds have two snipers positioned in high points on the planet. Cain and Comedian are poised ready for a surprise attack on the Angel and Batman.

Anti-Venom vs. Luke Cage

Brock comes face to face with Cage.

Cage – “Venom!! Think I’m gonna enjoy this”

The Symbiote lets out a scream and the two charge at each other. Matched on strength, Cage starts throwing punches. Brock dodges with great ease and wraps tendrils around the street fighter. Cage flexes his arms and chest and snaps out of the constraint. Brock somersaults over the top of Cage and releases the web like substance onto his left hand. He wraps it round his other arm and restrains his wrists. He flips over him again and seals his mouth and nose. Luke snaps out of this and rips the Symbiote of his face…The two go back to trading blows.

Deadpool vs. The Comedian

Comedian aims at Deadpool’s head as the merc wandersin his line of his sight. The shot rings out, Deadpool responds with a swift slash of his blade deflecting the bullet.

Comedian – “God damn it!!”

Comedian moves from his location and slips down the banking to try and sneak up on Deadpool.

He hears a click behind him.

He slowly turns to see Deadpool holding a gun to his head.

Deadpool – “Ok I’ve got one for ya…why did the Chicken cross the road?...”

Comedian – “Shut up!”

Deadpool – “Wrong the answer is…the purple squirrel”

Comedian – “What?”

Deadpool – “Ok got another one for you…draw your weapon”

Comedian pulls out his shotgun and points it at Deadpool

Deadpool – “Ok on the count of 3 we shoot each other”

Comedian – “You’re crazy”

Deadpool – “Oh wait…I know the real answer to my joke…its because he doesn’t want to play games with me”

Comedian – “You calling me chicken?”

Deadpool – “And the penny drops”

Comedian – “Ok 1, 2, 3…”

The shot rings out as both fall to the floor. A few minutes later Deadpool gets up. Comedian stays down.

Zauriel vs. Mirror Master and Anti-Venom vs. Luke Cage

The entire planet is full of shiny reflective crystals which is perfect for Evan but unfortunately Zauriel isn’t near the ground. But he has was of reaching him.

Zauriel sees the Rogue moving from surface to surface and swoops towards it. He screams shattering the crystals. But the mirror master dodges unharmed. Zauriel takes to the skies again drawing his sword. Evan appears in the reflective surface and wraps his arms around the angel’s neck. The sword falls from his hands and spins to towards the surface.

Anti-Venom is being pummeled by Cage but notices the sword falling to the ground. He leaps into the air and releases a tendril, grasping the hilt. He launches it towards Cage who tries to block the blade with his wrists. The mystical blade slices through his wrists and imbeds in his chest. The flaming sword boils Luke’s blood and he collapses on the floor.

Zauriel still tangled in a battle with Evan in the sky, begins to plummet to the surface. He falls at great speed gripping McCulloch by the chest. The impact on the floor takes McCulloch out. Zauriel takes to the sky again.

Batman and Atom vs. Cain and Captain America

Batman makes his way across the crystal plain. He notices Cain in his sniper point. He launches a Batarang towards his location, the batarang imbeds itself about a foot before its target.

Cain – “Someone’s getting sloppy”

Cain looks down his scope and targets the Dark Knight. He watches as Bruce encounters Bucky.

Batman faces off against he new patriot. Bucky swings his fists and shield at Batman. Batman dodges these using his cape as cover. Batman starts fighting back with a rapid succession of punches. After sparring with Steve he has an idea of the types of moves Bucky is going to use.
Cain sees his own team mate taking a beating and he takes aim. He fires. The sniper rifle explodes in his hands and debris embeds itself in his face and right eye.

Atom grows behind him and slams his head into the floor knocking him unconscious. (To explain, Atom was on the batarang and made his way up the barrel of the rifle, he lodged the bullet in its place with some crystal from the terrain causing the weapon to miss fire and explode in his hands)

Batman – “There goes your assistance”

Batman and Bucky keep trading blows but Bucky seems to keep falling short every time. Batman is one step ahead and with the aid of the gadgets and gas pellets in his belt is able to take Bucky down.

HOTNA remain victorious.

VS.

The Ringers
Kitty Pryde (MR)
Arsenal (DR)
Brainiac 5 (DR)
Taskmaster (MR)
Nightwing (DR)

Prep-Time:

Nightwing would know Gentleman Ghost and Hitman and would be able to tell that the Batman though a Batman was not Bruce. Taskmaster would know The Wizard. White Wolf would be a wild card, and Batman would be a bit of a wild card. On the otherside of things, Brainiac 5 would likely be unknown, as would Kitty and possibly Arsenal. Dick would know that the only thing to hurt Ghost is Nth metal, but none of them would have it. During prep time he'd be pouring over the things that could hurt the ghost before Roy would step forward. "Uh, Dick can I talk to you in private?"

The two friends would talk in private, and then Dick would come back and say the plan was for Roy to surprise Ghost. Brainiac would also offer to help as he would know that his own flight ring is an Nth metal alloy. Brainiac and Dick would plan for the rest. They'd have Taskmaster take on the Wizard while Dick took on Batman. Kitty would be given the White Wolf.

Battle Time:

As the battle breaks out, Gentleman Ghost appears to be waiting to clean up for the rest of the team, confident that no one here will be able to beat him.

Taskmast v. The Wizard

Taskmaster goes right after the Wizard, deflecting his electric blasts with his shield. However, as he got closer to the Wizard, the villain would use his helmet to take control of Taskmaster...

Kitty v. The White Wolf

Kitty would sink herself into the planet right away as she found her target. She would emerge in front of him, as White Wolf snarls in disgust, muttering about how they sent a girl to fight him. As he claws at her face, his hands go right through her phased body. She takes that moment of surprise to put her phased arm through his vibranium weave and slightly into his shoulder, before becoming physical just long enough to cause him severe pain, forcing him to blackout and fall to the ground.

Nightwing v. Batman

It wouldn't take Dick long to realize that as a tactician and combatant, this Batman has him outclassed. So he'd fall back on the one thing he would be better at. Dick's the best acrobat on Earth and in this fight it would show, flipping in and out for quick strikes while avoiding as much as he can from his opponent. He wouldn't do enough to take him down, but it would keep him busy.

Arsenal and Brainiac 5 v. Gentleman Ghost

The Ghost would be amused by Arsenal and Brainiac approaching him. As his confidence supports him, he'd be taken off guard when Brainiac lowered his forcefield long enough to punch him across the invisible face with his flight ring. While still reeling, Roy would come in with a flurry of blows to take the JSA villain down for the count. When as he drops into blackness he mutters the question of how, Roy looks forlorn as he answers. "Vandal Savage is in my bloodline."

Nightwing, Arsenal and Brainiac 5 v. Batman and Hitman

At this point, Hitman has turned to help Batman with Dick. Using his telepathy, he'd be able to predict where Dick was going to be, giving Batman the upper hand to put Dick down for the count. But shortly after, Roy would have snuck behind him while he was focused on Dick's thoughts and delivered a kick to the head, taking Tommy out, leaving Roy and Brainy against Batman.

Kitty v. The Wizard and Taskmaster

The Wizard would see the fight brewing between Arsenal and Brainiac and Batman, and would send Taskmaster to help. Meanwhile Kitty would use her phasing abilities to get behind the Wizard and disrupt the circuitry in his helmet, canceling his control over Taskmaster. Not happy about being controlled, Taskmaster makes short work of the Wizard.

The Ringers v. Batman

He held off Dick well and would have made quick work of Brainiac and Arsenal, but now he's worn down a bit, as Taskmaster and Kitty come to the fight. Taskmaster is his match in physical combat, and Kitty's unpredictable phasing helps in putting the future Batman down.

Prep-Time

Arriving on the planet, the team begins to survey the area. Noticing the crystals, Mirror Master chuckles. Seeing the list of their oppenents, only Cain and McCullough recognize the names of a few of their opponents. Cage knows about Deadpool and Anti-Venom, while Comedian is left in the dark about everyone else.

Luke Cage vs. Anti-Venom

It's muscle against muscle in this fight. Cage with his hardned skin vs. Venom's symbiote powers. Both characters have healing factors, with Brock's a step above Cage's. Brock is too dependent on the symbiote, while Cage is a trained street fighter who grew up in the streets of Harlem. Cage has been in tough fights all his life. And in the end, he comes out ahead of Brock.

Winner: Luke Cage

Captain America vs. Batman

Batman is a master planner and strategist, as is Bucky. The fact that he was trained to fight by Captain America, coupled with his bionic arm and years of service as a KGB assassin, Bucky's brawn outweighs Batman's, while the Dark Knight has him beat in the brains category. The fight is a draw until Bucky does something Batman never would, he pulls a gun.

Winner: Captain America

The Comedian vs. Zauriel

Zauriel's wings give him an advantage over Blake. But Blake, with his guns bring Zauriel down on his level. The fight is tough, rough, and pulverizing. And at the end of it....Edward Blake falls.

Winner: Zauriel

Mirror Master and Captain America vs. The Atom and Zauriel

A tough battle for sure. Ray Palmer has the ability to become microscopic while Evan McCullough has a field day in Zamaron's relfective surfaces. The match drags on, with Plamer shrunk, and McCullough hiding in the mirror world. Zauriel joins the battle, assisting his teammate in the sarch for McCullough.

Walking through the battlefield after his fight with Batman, Bucky is caught off guard as a person appears out of nowhere. Ray Palmer and Zauriel attack Captain America. With the bait in position, McCullough comes out of hiding and hits Palmer and Zauriel with blasts from his mirror gun, sending the two heroes into the mirror dimension.

Winner: Mirror Master and Captain America

Luke Cage and David Cain vs. Deadpool

Deadpool's healing factor and arsenal gives him a leg up on the two men. Cage's bullet-proof skin, combined with Cain's vast expertise in combat and killing make short order of the merc with the mouth.

Winner: Luke Cage and David Cain

Winner: Bad News Byrds

Spidey: "This is crazy."

Batman: "I know."

Spidey: "No, I mean reeeaally crazy."

Batman: "Yeah, I get that. But it'll work."

Spidey: "I've fought some crazy bad guys in my time. Out of this world fruit-loops. This is that crazy."

Batman: Dick just glares at Pete. "I know all about crazy."

Spidey: "Riiiight." He puts his hand to the side of his mouth and whispers to Boy Blue, "crazzy..." Blue just shrugs and goes back to softly practicing with his horn.

Deadline: "And why am I going along with this again?"

Proctor: "Because you do not wish for our opponents to kill you?"

Deadline: "Meh."

Batman: "Because you don't want me to kick your ass and throw you in Arkham when we get back home?"

Deadline: "Oh, yeah. Eh, as long as I can blow something up."

Batman: "Something, not someone," Dick warns.

Deadline: "Half a dozen of one..."

Proctor: "The plan is...unconventional. But I will hold my end of the fight."

Batman: "Good. Because I figure there's at least a 50-50 shot it'll all go to hell about five seconds after we arrive."

Spidey: "Sounds like a typical Friday night for me."

Batman: "Heh. Me too, actually. So, shall we...?"

Battle-Time

A tough battle for sure. Dick will know all about Deathstroke, obviously. And about Shadow Thief, since Batmen know pretty much everything about all DCU villains. The team will also know about Blink from their fight in Week 4. Demask and Gorgon will be mysteries. In the other direction, Slade will know Batman, and probably Deadline. And they'll have basic knowledge of Spidey. They'll know Boy Blue from the Week 4 fight, but Proctor should by a mystery.

When the fight begins, it's almost boring. Rather than a huge battle where the two teams meet up and start duking it out, they both instead rely on stealth. Up in the air, Deadline scouts for his target from a position of relative safety, and reports on all he sees with his tech enhanced vision. At one point he spots Blink and drops a gas grenade, but she's long teleported to safety before it lands. When he finally finds who he's looking for, Demask, he swoops in for a better shot. But Shadow Thief pops up to back his teammate up. Of course, DL has backup of his own...

Batman and Deathstroke seek each other out, almost as if they know exactly where the other will be. And it's quite likely they will. Spidey sticks close to Batman knowing it's easier to bring Blink to him, rather then try and track her down....

Using Deadline's scouting tips from above, Proctor teleports in behind Gorgon. Of course, Gorgon anticipates this, so it's not going to be much of a surprise....

Gorgon and Proctor's fight is probably one for the ages, and the best kung-fu movies. The Ebony Blade would normally hack right through another sword, but Gorgon's katana is not ordinary, and stands up well. Unfortunately for Proctor, he can use his telepathy to 'predict' Proctor's attacks, avoiding the Blade and blasts of energy. Teleporting does little good for either except to buy time. And they both take their fair share of injuries, from which they heal rapidly. Eventually, either Gorgon's katana will fail to the Ebony Blade, which can cut through anything, or he'll just get bored or decide to help the others, and use his gaze on Proctor. Turning him to stone.

Normally, Shadow Thief would be a huge hassle for Deadline. But with knowledge from Grayson, and help from Boy Blue, not so much this time. When the Thief makes his presence known, Boy Blue teleports in, pulling a flaring ball of light from within the cloak. With no shadows to hide in or use, the Thief is little more than a regular human. And a blast from DL's rifle is enough to fell the surprised and blinded villain.

Of course, this leaves the duo open to have their minds skinned. Deadline is the first to fall in a scream of pain and slobbering gibberish. Not knowing how his teammate was attacked, much less what Demask can do to him, Blue wisely teleports away to plan and gather help.

The instant Blink appears, Batman and Spidey leap away, hoping to avoid having being separated from vital chunks of their bodies. Spidey continues to flip backwards, using his waldoes to help as Blink keeps trying to teleport and catch up to him. In the meantime, Slade takes advantage of the surprise to engage Batman.

"Have you gotten smaller, Grayson?" Slade comments as his blade narrowly misses Batman's chest. "And where are those ever-present quips? Becoming more like Bruce now that you're wearing the costume?" Again Batman ignores the verbal barbs, instead remaining focused and keeping his head attached to his body, and avoiding having his chest splayed open by gunfire. "You're faster, I'll give you that." Slade does a spinning move with his blade, firing his gun in an arc to catch Dick as he leaps over the blade and brings the gun back around. But the bullets miss their target completely. And then something clicks.

"Wait...where's your belt?" Slade looks up, and sees Batman sticking to the bottom of the outcropping above Deathstroke.

'Batman' smiles. "Surprise!" And webs and stingers fire from his wrists.

Blink teleports in, and is caught by surprise as 'Spidey' pulls a couple of flashbangs from his utility belt. Protected by the effects of the bang by the suit and mask, Dick quickly puts the dazed blink down with a spray of knockout gas. He looks over to help Pete, but notices Slade bound by webs, and twitching from the dozen or so stingers poking out from his mask.

"Nice job," Dick says, pulling off the Iron Spidey mask.

"I guess sometimes crazy work-" Pete's eyes go wide, and he leaps back as far as he can. But, even in Pete's costume, Dick doesn't have a spidey-sense, and Demask skins his mind with ease.

"How did you get here so fast?" Pete's eyes go wide again, and he ducks and rolls just before Gorgon lops his head off from behind. Not stopping for a second, Pete runs and jumps along the wall, webbing up Demask. But Gorgon just teleports infront of Pete, and again the wall-crawler barely avoids being cut in twain. Demask quickly frees herself using her other powers-

snicker-snack

Her head drops from her shoulder and Pete just looks on in horror. Boy Blue faces off against Gorgon, Vorpal Blade at the ready.

"I'll handle this." Gorgon spins around at the voice, but crumples to the ground as Proctor scrambles his brains.

"How?" He's able to garble out before collapsing.

Proctor sheathes his blade and taps it. "Immortality."

STORYTELLING TIME

Zamaron.

The planet of love.

The peace and quiet was disturbed by an otherworldly cackling and energy blasts flinging about. The Gentleman Ghost was firing bolts of his eldritch power at the Batman from the distant future, but the hero easily evaded being hit. The White Wolf stood to the side, watching the spectacle amusedly. He was quickly joined by the Wizard, who is tinkering with his devices.

“Anything I should know about?” the latter asked.
The Wolf shrugged. “I believe the Ghost is trying to go three for three.”
“Explain yourself.”
“He told me he’s been facing Batmans, note the plural, in the last few weeks. Working alongside one of them again mustn’t be a treat.”
The Wizard chuckled contemptuously. The White Wolf lit a cigarette. The two villains looked at one other.
The White Wolf smiled. “Would you work with Reed Richards?”
The Wizard sneered.

Suddenly, the battle/conversation was interrupted by a hail of machine gun fire blasting through the Gentleman Ghost’s incorporeal form. Heads turned as a man dressed in black, wearing shades and carrying an assortment of weaponry, stepped out of the woods. He let a cigarette butt fall the ground, where after he stomped it into the ground with his big leather boots.

“Monaghan. Tommy Monaghan. Anyone care to tell me what the *&^% is going on?”

In the next few minutes, introductions were made, explanations were given and a certain undead ally was calmed down. The Jailbait team now gathered – with the Ghost and the Batman standing on opposite sides – around holographic projections of their opponents.

Arsenal
Brainiac 5
Nightwing
Kitty Pryde
Taskmaster

The White Wolf assessed the Ringers immediately. “No powerhouses.”

TEAM TACTICS

Let’s cut to the heart of the matter immediately: how will these two teams function as a unit? There are three bad guys on my team, one anti-hero and one straight up good guy. Now, all of the villains are relatively low-key. They have egos, but have worked with others, including heroes on occasion. Batman 1,000,000, the one real hero in the unit, doesn’t know half the team (different time/universe) and he’s worked with some of them before. The Gentleman Ghost doesn’t like him, but would go along with things in the end. Ultimately, all of these guys are out for their own gain, and winning is to everyone’s advantage. It will be a loose outfit though.

How about the opposing team? Bunch of good guys, with exception of Taskmaster, and he isn’t all that bad. Arsenal and Nightwing work well together, although there might be some discussion as to who will lead the team. The others will pretty much fall in. Nightwing does the tactics and Brainiac 5 will supply the necessary calculations and such. The Ringers will have the advantage of a having the semblance of a leader in the field (the logical choice being Nightwing). Jailbait will be more scattershot.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Who knows the White Wolf? The opponents will have no clue who he is, whereas White Wolf will have a decent idea of some of his opponents. Kitty Pryde is a known X-Man. Taskmaster is a known villain and mercenary. Jailbait, including the White Wolf, met a Dick Grayson earlier when fighting Chaos & Order.

Batman 1,000,000 will be familiar with Brainiac 5 and Nightwing. He fights alongside Brainiac 417 in the Justice Legion, so all he can really do is be too prepared. Brainiac is not likely to know a lot about the future Batman, although Nightwing will be able to fill the Legionnaire in on some details. They don’t have much to work with though.

Gentleman Ghost took a version of Dick Grayson on just a few weeks ago. The former Boy Wonder was in the guise of the Batman then and gifted with just a little more experience and a little more resources. Either way, these two will know of each other. Nightwing will have little to prepare with though.

The Wizard doesn’t offer much on this front, although the opposing team will have sparse knowledge on him. He is a known villain, so they’ll have the basics thanks to Taskmaster and Shadowcat, but much more than that? No. The same goes for Hitman, who Nightwing and Arsenal might have heard about at some point, but all in all he’s going to be an unknown to them.

BATTLE TIME

I had a tough time figuring out how these two teams would end up matched up. There are a lot of different scenarios, with a whole host of differing reasons. Ultimately though, I think this is the way the battle would most likely go. Jailbait team determines the opening play by virtue of being a decidedly more aggressive outfit. They’ll go for first blood.

ROUND 1! FIGHT!

Now, Arsenal and Nightwing will be fighting alongside each other. They’ll face the White Wolf and Hitman, who will both come in guns a blazin’. The two heroes will do the whole acrobat routine and Arsenal will even fire a few bullets back. If they manage to hit the White Wolf, they bounce off harmlessly, his vibranium weave sapping their kinetic energy.

The villain will proceed to take on Nightwing, while Hitman turns his attentions to Arsenal. Now, this is a good moment to state that the White Wolf is Black Panther’s foster brother and he can match his adopted brethren in skill, ferocity and resources. He’s got a suit that can make him invisible and can take heavy artillery. Nightwing’s an awesome hand-to-hand combatant, but the White Wolf has seen it all before. Literally, as he’s faced Grayson previously in the competition. After quite a tussle, the Boy Wonder goes down.

Things go less well for Hitman, who is running out of ammo. He smiles, thinking his opponent isn’t far behind on this front. His X-ray vision confirms it. Bullets litter the ground. Hitman moves in for the kill, but while he’s an excellent fighter, Arsenal quickly and decisively overpowers him.

Meanwhile, Batman 1,000,000 meets the Taskmaster. The villainous mercenary is completely outmatched here: this Batman is the number one martial artist of his future, alien time. He’s got techniques that Taskmaster won’t see coming. Sure, the villain can copy moves, but not when they knock him out on first contact. We’re talking about these kinds of moves. If through some miracle, Taskmasters manages to stay standing, Batman 1,000,000’s superior technology should take care of things.

Another easy match-up is the battle between the Wizard and Shadowcat. It is a fight that is squarely in the mutant’s favour, as she can avoid the Wizard’s attacks with her phasing powers. When she comes in close, Shadowcat can just as easily use those powers to disrupt all of the villain’s technology, rendering him completely useless.

Brainiac 5 wouldn’t be convinced the Gentleman Ghost is in fact a ghost, but a few minutes into their match, he would have reason to rethink his position. The Legionnaire would be whipping up various technological doodads to blast the Ghost with or try to contain him, but they’d all fail against the eldritch villain. Unfortunately though, Brainiac 5’s forcefields should be able to sustain themselves against the Ghost’s attacks.

ROUND 2! FIGHT!

Batman 1,000,000 moves on to Shadowcat, using his holograms to keep her busy while he uses his supercomputer to determine the frequency on which she operates. The X-Man takes care of the holograms, but then the future Batman moves in, tagging her with his datarangs, which attack their target on a molecular level.

The Gentleman Ghost meanwhile fires his otherworldly bolts of energy at Arsenal, but the Titan manages to dodge them just barely. One shot grazes him and sends him to the ground. The villain comes to gloat, standing over the hero. But before the Ghost can assure his victory, Arsenal kicks the villain in the chest and the Ghost can’t help but be surprised. A devastating punch from the former Speedy finds its target and a bewildered ghost falls to the ground.

The White Wolf turns his attentions to Brainiac 5, but is also unable to penetrate the future hero’s forcefields. The adopted Wakandan narrowly avoids an attack from the Legionnaire, after which he decides to go for a hasty retreat, coordinating with the Batman from the future.

ROUND 3! FIGHT!

Batman 1,000,000 ends up facing Brainiac 5. Now, Brainiac is the smarter of the two, but his technology is hopelessly outdated to the future Batman. In fact, the dark vigilante can easily use his resources to commandeer Brainiac’s technology. After that, it’s a matter of one punch to the face.

The battle is then decided when a tired Arsenal meets the White Wolf. Out of weapons, the hero has to rely on a hastily fastened bow, but the arrows barely even register against the Wolf’s armour. A few blows are exchanged, before the Wakandan finally takes down the Navajo.

I have to make this quick. I’m basically going for a straight fight. We all know that there’s great strategic minds on both sides that would likely play a part but I don’t have time to deal with that all that much. Please work with me. Likely it’d come down to the battles anyhow.

Both Demask and Gorgon would be mysteries to Chaos & Order. Odd Alliance would be familiar with Spider-Man but not this suit. Location does little for either team. Chaos & Order has a descent cohesive team as far as working together goes, though there could be some issue with Deadline, but I don’t think it’d be much. The Odd Alliance would also work well together as they have been for a while. Gorgon would be the exception but he can just read the others’s mind and see what’s going on and know that they are not his enemies. They will work well together in the end. Also note, though it would seem my team would know nothing of Proctor, do remember that Proctor was on my team for a few weeks, fighting once, so they’d know all they need to know about him. Both teams have great tactical planners so that’s pretty even. All in all the only advantage is with Odd Alliance due to their lack of knowledge about Demask and Gorgon.

Now something I’d like to clarify…. Proctor is not a telepath… not really. I’ve been studying his appearances and the only time he was shown using telepathy was with Cassandra, who he has a link with (like Cyclops and Jean) and with Black Knight, which was due to them both being Gann Josin’s. That’s it. He can manipulate chemicals in a person’s brain but it’s very taxing and the person has to pretty much be laying there with no resistance. So being that neither Cassandra nor Black Knight are around, Proctor’s got nothing. He cannot just read minds nor do any type of mental attacks. He has telekinesis, but that’s different. His teleporting is also questionable on whether or not he can do it or if it has to deal with his base, which isn’t present, but since it can’t be proven either way and remains questionable, I’ll leave it be. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Quick Battles

Shadow Thief vs Deadline

Both of these being able to faze it makes tactical sense for them to target each other. I’d imagine that Shadow Thief’s shadow form would help him hide and search quicker than Deadline so he’d likely make first strike, which is mostly all he needs. I see him finding Deadline, even if he’s around others, the fazing thing makes it not matter really. I see him hanging back for a moment and having Deadline’s shadow attack him for distraction. Shadow Thief would then faze through Deadline, pulling him from his suit, or his suit from him, you get the idea. They would quickly vanish in a shadow portal. Without these he’s defenseless as he then spears the man with a shadow sword made from Deadline’s own shadow

This would be the opening assault, as it doesn’t matter that others are near. This would also be strategic because Chaos & Order would likely be using Spidey’s sense to warn them of an attack. It’d be going off now due to Shadow Thief’s assault. They’d expect an attack, but they wouldn’t know from where. Shadow Thief is a distraction and the rest comes.

Gorgon vs Spider-Man

Gorgon would go against Spider-Man because, despite Spider-Man’s spider sense, Gorgon can telepathically see what Spider-Man is planning. Both have superhuman agility and speed, and with Gorgon’s telepathy he can see where Spider-Man is going to leap. Even without all this Gorgon is a far superior fighter to Spider-Man and we saw in the New Avengers Collective arc that Spider-Man’s mind is wide open to telepaths. This really is an easy win for Gorgon. Most likely it’d be a quick spearing of the Spider. The armor can stop bullets, but Godkiller can pierce the skin of a god. If there’s any doubt though, no one would know anything about Gorgon’s medusa eyes and if he can’t get through the armor (and I think it’s easy to believe he can) he can always just pull the rag off and boom, Spidey’s a statue.

Deathstroke vs Boy Blue

The team having faced Boy Blue before they know how powerful his cloak is up close. And so they decide to be careful and go for the smart play. Deathstroke hangs back at sniper’s range. Once Boy Blue becomes distracted by the assault of those above and the ones mentioned below, Deathstroke simply pulls the trigger and blows Boy Blue’s brains out. It’s not exactly extravagant and epic, but it’s very Deathstroke and with time to plan I can see this being an easy direction to take. There’s nothing any of Chaos & Order can do to stop it, so why not? Take out the most powerful without a problem.

Proctor vs Blink

Knowing about Blink and being a fellow teleporter these two would be paired together. Blink would expect a quick in and out kill but Proctor’s team would expect this as well and would use it to their advantage. The moment the first attack came he was aware. Blink’s quick but she has to reach out and touch. Knowing this, Proctor waits and hears the “blink” noise and teleports directly behind him and with a swing of the ebony blade lobs off Blink’s head. Obviously the rest of his team wouldn’t have agreed to this method and would have planned a better attack, but Proctor isn’t one to care about that.

Shadow Thief vs Proctor

Having seen Blink’s death Shadow Thief repeats a scene from Identity Crisis with Firestorm and leaps through him, fazing through a blast, fazing the ebony blade out of Proctor’s hand, and slashing his head off in return, or maybe through his chest. Either way, he kills him in the same way that he killed Firestorm.

Batman vs. Demask

It will be known how strong a mind that Batman has, and Deathstroke knows how strong of a mind Dick has. And so they decide that his mind should be the target. Demask is then tasked to this because she is a good fighter and has great survival instincts, but ultimately because they know that Dick knows nothing about Demask. However, Demask is not in any way superhuman when it comes to her physical person and I’d imagine that as soon as the attack comes, Dick would see her, know that she is a mystery, and go on the offense by dropping smoke and then a baterang to the temple. Again, it’s not a glorious defeat but it’s very much a Batman thing to do to someone of Demask’s level.

Gorgon vs. Batman

Now this is a closer paired fight in a fighting talent way, though I still think Gorgon has the edge. But again, Gorgon’s telepathy is strong enough to break through Wolverine and Elektra’s defenses, so they should have no problem breaking through Dick’s. He can anticipate Dick’s every move, and with him being alone he’s outmatched. If this isn’t enough to show that Gorgon can win this, remember that Deathstroke is now free and on his way, and Deathstroke knows all about Dick Grayson and can fight with the best of them as well. I’d imagine maybe Dick would try to use this to make them hurt each other in the fight, or turn them against one another, but remember that Gorgon can read his mind while fighting so any strategic plan he comes up with would be expected. He’d last a bit, but in the end Batman would fall.

Rebuttal!!!

It is unfortunate to say that this exchange is a very Bendis Spider-Man, and while I don’t mind Bendis, his Spider-Man is always bad. This is a sad thing.

In the other direction, Slade will know Batman, and probably Deadline. And they'll have basic knowledge of Spidey. They'll know Boy Blue from the Week 4 fight, but Proctor should by a mystery.

Proctor was a member of the Odd Alliance my good sir… they’ll know all about that fair fellow through personal experience :)

While Gorgon does win this, I’d also like to mention that you still overplay Proctor in this. He has nowhere near the speed or talents with a blade that Gorgon has, and his being able to predict Proctor’s moves would end the match extremely quickly. Not only that but it makes no sense for Gorgon to go after Proctor when he’d be better suited for a better fighter like Nightwing or Spider-Man. Why leave one of them to the novice Blink when she’s not a match for either of them really? With people on the team who are strategically sound this would be a bad call for the Odd Alliance. Of course, the moment this theory is put into play it throws your entire Batman/Spider-Man switcheroo due to Gorgon’s telepathy, and I think that’s where your match begins to fail.

I will say the ball of light is a great idea. The problem is the actual defeat. Even without the shadows he can still be intangible, so the rifle would do nothing.

Again, the idea is great, and it even got me, your opponent, a little excited as I read it… but putting more thought into it this really wouldn’t work out so well. The first thing is that Deathstroke would know that Nightwing wasn’t himself the first moment they began to fight. You had him even observe the physical issues, let alone the different fighting style. And there’s only one person who could replace him on this team, and having studied the team, Deathstroke should have been able to put this together.

Add that to the fact that the Odd Alliance has a telepath on their team, Gorgon. As I stated earlier, it’s very unlikely that Gorgon would go after Proctor when there are warriors on his par in Batman and Spider-Man. He’d target them in a heartbeat, which would spoil the whole thing.

All in all this was a fun idea but with Deathstroke’s mind and history with Dick, and with Gorgon’s telepathy, it would fail.

And exactly how is Spider-Man avoiding Gorgon? Despite how fast Spider-Man is, Gorgon is right there with him, and he will know that Spider-Man is going to leap one way or the other so he knows where to recover his blow. It would be nothing for Gorgon to tag Spider-Man.

And this is my biggest problem with the write up. Proctor is immortal, but he can’t control the molecules of his being like Sersi or Thanos. Would he live through being turned into stone? Possibly (though I don’t even see how that is as his heart would not beat), but he has no means of returning himself to his human form. He can mess with the chemicals in his own brain, but that would do nothing in this instance. So there is absolutely no way for Proctor to return from the stone state to return and defeat Gorgon from behind.

And I feel that between that, his earlier fight with Proctor, and his small fight with Spidey, you’ve very much underestimated Gorgon. The guy matched and bested Wolverine in the fighting area. Proctor has a sword but isn’t near as good or quick with it. His telepathy works differently from Gorgon’s and would in no way prepare him for Gorgon’s telepathy nor would it do anything to Gorgon as a foe. He needs to actually focus on the person to mess with their mind, he needs to be unhindered, and it takes a lot out of him (as with the scene when he had to mess with fix Coal Tiger’s fractured mind, putting him to sleep if memory serves). The only time he was shown to effectively use his telepathy was with Black Knight, which was due to the Gann Josin connection the two have, or if he’s already performed the “Gathering” on them, and even then it’s a bit iffy. His mind would do nothing to help him against Gorgon, his swordmanship isn’t anywhere near as good, and Gorgon is quicker, Spider-Man like agile, more ruthless, and just a better trained fighter in all. Proctor would be out extremely quickly and would not be a factor later in the fight.

And likely when he was going after Spider-Man he’d take him out quickly as well. Spidey’s spidey sense would be his only saving grace by only for the first strike or two, and with how quick Gorgon is to return attack and redouble and all that, Spidey’s hands would be full, not allowing him a chance to do anything else until he’s defeated by the fourth or so strike.

I’ll go as far as to say that Gorgon is likely the best fighter in this competition at this moment. Other people have powers that give them edge, but in a straight fight such as in your write up, he’d win out every time.

But you’re apparently Brian Michael Bendis… what does accurate character portrayal mean to you ;)

Rebuttle...The Beginning

Pretty solid writeup. But there are a few points I'd like to touch on.

Deadline can be in the air, safe from the Shadow Thief's attacks. Thief can't fly, nor would there be any shadows for him to exploit while DL is in the air.

Yes, Gorgon can read Spidey's mind. But when Spidey reacts to that familiar tingling, he can act without conscious thought, his body reacting just on pure instinct to avoid harm and strike back. Since there's no conscious thought for Gorgon to read, there's no way to predict how Spidey will react to his attacks. Pete might not be able to attack effectively (since that would require thought), but he can at least keep the very dangerous Gorgon busy.

Deathstroke taking out Boy Blue with a sniper rifle is certainly possible. But why stop at just Blue? Why not snipe the rest? It would be the obvious thing to do. So obvious, in fact, that, knowing Deathstroke's skill and tactics, Dick would anticipate a possible sniper attack. Which is why he'd have Deadline scanning for Stroke from the air, bombing him with rifle blasts and gas bombs once he tracks him down.

I can't really argue with the teleporter battle. These battles could always go either way. But Proctor's extra powers definitely give him a distinct edge over Blink.

Can't argue much with the way Thief took out Proctor. About the only thing Proctor would have going for him is screwing with Thief's mind when he's trying to attack. Which could give Proctor enough time to slice and dice his opponent. This does assume Thief is available to fight Proctor.

I also don't have a problem with the Batman-Demask match. It could go either way as well. But Dick is very good at dealing with enemies with powers, and even multiple powers.

Yes, Dick would have a tough time with Gorgon, and would probably lose except for one thing. He knows Gorgon's name. Yep, something that simple is all Batman needs. Dick's grown up fighting villains with obvious names, and knowing what a gorgon is, mythologicaly speaking, he'll know the obvious reason Gorgon got his name. And he'd know the best way to deal with it is to use a mirror or reflective surface when Gorgon tries to 'stone' him (which is the best way to fight a gorgon). Of course, Gorgon would know Dick is thinking this, but that also means he knows he can't risk using his stone vision since Dick is looking for it. Also, having fought telepaths before, Bruce and Dick trained themselves to fight without thought, using instinct and muscle memory much like Spidey. In fact, Spidey should still be in the fight with Gorgon, and I'm not sure how the mutant would fair against both of them.

Only thing I'm really going to debate from Harl's well written battle is that Brainy, having invented the flight ring, would definitely know of its Nth metal composition. Other than that, the fight was completely feasible. Great job, Harl.

Rebuttle...The End

You speak as if Gorgon has a choice in the matter of fighting Proctor or not. Proctor can teleport, but Gorgon can't. So he'll have no choice but to face Proctor first.

And since Gorgon won't be involved with the Deathstroke fight, he won't be able to tip Stroke off. And 'Dick' having a different fighting style might be suspicious, but not unheard of given someone with Dick's skill. Slade could easily assume it's an attempt to not use anything Slade has seen before against Dick, especially since the two haven't faced off since Dick became the Bat, and that Slade would see 'Spidey' fighting Blink. Besides, the fight against Stroke will only take a few seconds anyway.

Spidey can avoid Gorgon since his spidey-sense runs on instinct, not thought. Making him unpredictable for Gorgon to anticipate.

Being immortal means that Proctor can survive anything. He heals from any wound, and he should be able to heal from this attack, as well as all of the others Gorgon uses. I don't doubt Proctor will take a pounding from Gorgon, but his immortality makes him best suited to take the beating and keep the mutant busy.

And if you ever call me Bendis again, I will hunt you down and run you over with a truck filled with cancer. :cmad:

:p

And my final rebuttal.

Rebuttle...The Beginning

Yes, Gorgon can read Spidey's mind. But when Spidey reacts to that familiar tingling, he can act without conscious thought, his body reacting just on pure instinct to avoid harm and strike back. Since there's no conscious thought for Gorgon to read, there's no way to predict how Spidey will react to his attacks. Pete might not be able to attack effectively (since that would require thought), but he can at least keep the very dangerous Gorgon busy.

Now, I'll agree that Spidey's instincts can take over, but once the Spidey Sense kick in and the initial "Leap" is over, he's typically more prone to think. He has years of experience fighting and it isn't all due to instinct. He actually KNOWS how to fight, so yeah, he'd think and Gorgon would kill him thanks to it.

Remember, Gorgon is a mistery to the team. As you state later in your rebuttal, his name may give them an idea of his stone powers, but not his telepathy.

Why stop at Blue? Because I needed other people to do stuff or I'd get low votes ;)

But I agree, he could have done a lot more. I was just sharing the responsibilities with his team. It may or may not be an obvious tactic... but if it's so obvious that Nightwing would expect it... why wasn't that covered or even hinted at in your write up ;) Obviously you didn't think it obvious then :)

Can't argue much with the way Thief took out Proctor. About the only thing Proctor would have going for him is screwing with Thief's mind when he's trying to attack. Which could give Proctor enough time to slice and dice his opponent. This does assume Thief is available to fight Proctor.

As I've stated in my write up... having read the Proctor Saga he's only ever shown messing with certain minds. First are those he's taken through the Gathering (Shadow Thief obviously isn't one), second is Dane Witman who was a fellow Gann Josin (so there was a connection there), and lastly weak minded people who offered no physical or mental resistence. The example of this was Coal Tiger, and after taking the time to do this Proctor was shaken and mentions that it takes more out of him every time. So likely if Proctor tried something on Shadow Thief, he'd be in worse or equally worse shape than Proctor... giving him no advantage in the slightest, and maybe screwing with him for the remainder of the match.

In fact, Spidey should still be in the fight with Gorgon, and I'm not sure how the mutant would fair against both of them.

But remember, the name tells nothing of his telepathy. If his stone vision didn't work then his telepathy would do just fine. Dick wouldn't know to expect it and there'd be no sign of it with Spidey (as Spidey can be out faught without telepathy). The telepathy is key here. Without knowing about it, Nightwing will think while fighting, resulting in his own demise. Not only that, but he'll "hear" any plan Dick may have for his stone vision and prepare for it and work around it if necessary.
