So when is this coming out now that SW is due out in December 2015? I'd prefer a big spring release, like March or early April. Even May if the scope of this is big enough. The way they are talking, it sounds like a summer release. 2016 would be sweet, but I'd prefer the spring, as people gear up for Game of Thrones and into the feel of things.

Not for a very long time if they do sequels but probably if they keep some of the storyline from Cataclysm.

If Universal has to move away from a December release then they'll likely move it to the summer just like Spider-Man, Star Trek, Man of Steel and Tomorrowland have in the past.

Memorial Day Weekend 2016 is wide open and Marvel has an Untitled Film set to open that month. Now that could be Thor 3 or it could be Dr. Strange. With Strange they may have an opening weekend around $50-$60 million, meaning it likely wouldn't be any competition when Warcraft would open. Plus it would give the studio an extra 6 months to polish it.

2015 is so crowded even if a movie makes money, will it be remembered?

I think Warcraft can be a hit but if it wants a legacy it should move to a less crowded year where it can shine.

Colin Farrell Talks Warcraft, Calls Script 'Amazing'

A few months ago rumors for the casting of the upcoming Warcraft movie started popping up, and one of the first names attached was Colin Farrell. IGN caught up with the actor and asked about the project, and what its production status is.

"Don’t know what’s happening, man. I read the script, if that’s any use to you, and it’s amazing....Duncan was cool. I sat with Duncan for awhile and read the script, loved the script, and we was as cool as can be. I don’t know what’s happening with the film. I don’t know where they are in the process...It’s just a world that I never explored — and it’s a really big and fantastical world. I can’t imagine what he, being as visually gifted as he is, Duncan, and what he did on Moon with, like, a dime, I can’t imagine what he’d do with this Warcraft."

When asked what character he might be playing, Farrell replyed:

"Can I? I probably shouldn’t. I don’t even know, actually, I’ll just say that! I don’t even know. We were just talking, and Duncan just said, “There might be something in it for you!” And I said, “Catering?” [Laughs]"

Farrell is just one of many names linked to the project, which is said to have four lead characters. Paula Patton and "Vikings" star Travis Fimmel are also rumored to be in negotiations for the film which will center on Anduin Lothar versus Durotan, Human and Orc heroes from the original real-time strategy games. The movie will also be focused largely in the Eastern Kingdoms of Azeroth.

Set to be directed by Duncan Jones, Warcraft has Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni producing for Legendary along with Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Charles Leavitt wrote the script. Warcraft is currently set for release on December 18, 2015. Well, Duncan Jones hasn't made a bad movie yet, so that's encouraging. Personally, I'm still waiting for my Legend of Zelda and Mass Effect films.

Universal and Legendary have moved Warcraft from December 18, 2015 to March 11, 2016.

I know they moved it out of Episode VII's way for one, but I think it's a good move. Gives them more time to shoot and refine the CGI.

I don't have a problem with them moving the date but march really? I'mean if they moved seventh son a year from its original release date why not move this to summer 2016. March makes it look like they have no confidence in the film(even if that's not the case) Plus this is such a christmas time movie,(like LOTR) I don't know about this...

I really hope this ends up being the first video game adaptation I enjoy. I haven't liked a single one so far, but I feel like Duncan Jones may be talented enough to make the translation work where so many have failed so far. And with Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender attached to 2 others, the "video game movie" could finally be finding its groove soon.

I agree. I think David Bowie's Baby Boy will add weight to the genre.

I'm still waiting on what the heck Fox/Ubi is doing with Assassian's Creed, which is due out in August 2015. I have a feeling that it's a lot HARDER to adapt a story like that, where you're going back and forth between different time periods and characters.

It's a little knee-jerk, though initially I had the same feeling.

But…it's too early to say anything. I think March is almost Hollywood's month for 'unproven franchises'. It worked for 300, the first Hunger Games, etc. It's a very powerful month because it's not seen as a wasteland like January or September. But it's big enough for tentpoles, but small enough for experiments.

And I'll tell ya this: Once the dailies come in and Legendary falls in love with it expect another release delay to the Summer. That happened with 'Edge of Tomorrow'.

Like Octoberist said, March has proven to be quite blockbuster-friendly now - no longer a "wasteland month" - so I don't think it's a bad release date or shows any lack of faith on the studio's part.

It IS funny though, about 2016 releases…Hollywood has placed their bets on 2015, while 2016 looks empty as heck.

Heh, it'll be a matter of time before Paramount moves Mission Impossible 5 as well. I think they're still waiting to see if the theory stands on Hollywood will cannibalize itself in 2015.

Until then, I think Paramount's placement of Mission Impossible is just a passive aggressive 'come at us, bro' towards Star Wars and JJ..despite both projects being under his umbrella.
