Duncan Jones' Warcraft

Good news Tom Cruise should move M:I 5 too as SW Episode VII will trample over it.

It's funny because both movies are under J.J. Abrams' supervision.

Not really. Abrams just produced, but he really didn't do anything for Ghost Protocol.

Not to get too OT but I wonder what JJ is going to direct after Star Wars. I doubt he'll return due to the crazy schedule and being in Europe. Maybe a Valve project? I still have a theory that he'll want to do Half-Life the movie, but after the success of his (and Doug Dourst's) book 'S.' he'll probably create a multi-media project with Valve: a movie, a video game and maybe a graphic novel.

He's got Portal, Half-Life, the whole nine.

Bad Robot is involved, with like, almost everything Science-Fiction related in film and television.

It's a smaller, more focused Disney.

He is the new Spielberg, as much as some like to claim otherwise.

What? If he can pull off something along the likes of Munich/schindlers list then we might have a conversation

To be fair, no one thought Spielberg was capable of pulling off those movies before he made Schindler's list.

But…it's too early to say anything. I think March is almost Hollywood's month for 'unproven franchises'. It worked for 300, the first Hunger Games, etc. It's a very powerful month because it's not seen as a wasteland like January or September. But it's big enough for tentpoles, but small enough for experiments.

And I'll tell ya this: Once the dailies come in and Legendary falls in love with it expect another release delay to the Summer. That happened with 'Edge of Tomorrow'.

March has had a mixed slate of films that hit it big, or flop big time. But I think Legendary is on to something here. They pretty much pioneered the early March blockbuster while they were at WB, with 300 (and hope to repeat it with next year's follow-up). Alice in Wonderland, Hunger Games, Oz: The Great & Powerful, and G.I. Joe Retaliation pretty much solidified March's viability as a blockbuster month.

But Legendary Pictures isn't involved with Edge of Tomorrow. They considered it, but they opted out. WB and Village Roadshow Pictures are co-financing it.

Abrams certainly wants to be the new Spielberg, but he's got a long way to go before that's even a possibility, imo. Even ignoring the Spielberg who made Schindler's List, Empire of the Sun and Munich, Abrams has yet to even touch the magic of E.T., Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, etc., even though he's clearly tried to.

Don't know much about Warcraft but I loved Moon and Source Code, so I'm in.

I think he has it in him. I think his worst film though is 'Star Trek into Darkness', a film that I actually enjoy but lacks the energy and fun of the first film.

But the reality is the industry currently won't allow another new Speilberg to exist period.

The problem now in this reboot/remake world is that it's harder to make big movies that are original or if then, non-conventional. Nolan is like one of the few big directors who tries to make original movies when he can. And that will speak volumes when it comes down to his legacy.

Spielberg was able to make big movies that aren't common these days. E.T. isn't just a kid's film something more. Jaws (though an adaptation) is like one of a kind horror film made for everyone. A lot of his films were not action adventures but films that just broke through the public zeitgeist and captured the world's imagination.

Even the geek darling of Joss Whedon has only done original stuff on TV. His filmography is just comic book adaptations, a sequel to a TV he created, and Shakespeare.

Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper to Star in Legendary’s ‘Warcraft’

Duncan Jones is directing the movie, which also stars Travis Fimmel and Paula Patton

Ben Foster (“Lone Survivor”) and Dominic Cooper (“Need for Speed”) are set to join Duncan Jones’ big-budget fantasy film “Warcraft,” TheWrap has learned.

Travis Fimmel (“Vikings”) and Paula Patton (“2 Guns”) also star in the movie, which is based on Blizzard Entertainment’s popular video game “World of Warcraft.”

“Warcraft” is another ambitious project for Legendary, which also brought Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” to the big screen. The fantasy film follows orcs, dragons, zombies, werewolves and elves in a medieval-like setting.

Jones (“Source Code”) will direct “Warcraft” from a script by Charles Leavitt. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing with Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Production will start next month in Vancouver, and Universal will release the movie on March 11, 2016.

Ben Foster is underrated. He could be seen as Ryan Gosling 'not as handsome but not exactly ugly either' evil brother in Real Life.

Directly from Legendary, Toby Kebbell, & Rob Kazinsky are also joining the cast:

I'm actually very happy for Rob Kazinsky. If you recall, he was suppose to play Fili in The Hobbit, but had to drop out only weeks before the shoot for personal reasons. Then Legendary hooked him up with not just Pacific Rim but this too. Not bad.

BTW, here's Rob's reaction along with Graham McTavish's (also in the Hobbit) congratulating him. Very sweet.

A year and a third? Played? Dude is serious about his gameplay.

Ben Foster in WoW? Bring it.
