^ I don't know about it not being as painful for comic book movies. The 70s, 80s, 90s produced a ton of crappy comic book movies with a few gems.

Don't leave out the 2000s. Sure, that was basically a golden age for comic book adaptations, but the female characters got **** on big time.

Oh, I think so. Because even if there were ****ting comic book films, you could at least confidently name a couple good comic book films. Video game movies? Just consistently ****.

Yeah, female superheroes have yet to have a break out movie, but the genre as a whole at least in the 2000s you finally got some sense of consistency.

After Batman and Batman Returns, in the early 90s, were there really any superhero movies that people consider good until Blade? The mid 90s produced a lot of crap with little glimmers of quality.

At least in the 2000s between the Catwomans, Daredevils and Elektra's you had Spider-Man, X-Men, Batman, etc.

On a slightly unrelated note, Hanna is the best female superhero movie ever. :funny:

But Hanna isn't a superhero...

Yeah, it's a few levels down for video game films Vs comic films. :csad: There have been a lot of good & great comic films in addition to all the dross and that includes older films. But maybe that will start to change when we finally get a video game film that does $1B box office and is respected by critics and fans.

I was already excited for this movie but I just found out my buddy might get a small role. Awesome stuff.

Theres also the matter that videogame characters aren't particularly good fodder for film adaptations. So many of them are completely blank slates without even the bare bones "hero's journey" story behind them.

Or alternatively, they have such a mind screwy plotline of their own with such huge scope (Metal Gear) that an movie adaptation is pretty much gauranteed to let fans down because they have to cut something out.

Warcraft has enough story potential they can pull it off. But they should probably try and find one of the better back stories they have for some event or character and sell that.

I'd agree most probaly aren't, some are. But the films have made a terrible job of the limited material available even so. You can make a good film out of some of these properties if you have someone directing who believes it and has the talent. You need someone to write something decent using enough elements of the game's story and trademarks to satisfy the source material fans. If original films based on no source material at all can be good then there's no reason why films linked to something that's done really well can't. Ignore all the stupid or weak parts, take only what can be used positively and write your own story within that game universe. I was saying the same for a team superhero film decades before it was successfully done. You can make a good film out of anything, even a kid's creative writing effort, as long as you don't feel overly pressured to include things you don't want to include.

The biggest problem is that most movie producers are older and think of video games as if they are still like they were in the 8-bit era.

There are plenty of great video game characters out there that could translate to film, especially in the last couple of generations.

There is no reason a game like Uncharted or Red Dead Redemption can't be carried over to the cinema.

First day all done! Best day of the shoot so far! ...technically, also the worst.

First days are going to be like that.

I hope this film is successful so that Duncan Jones might also be able to do his adaptation of 2000AD Celtic Conan fantasy character Slaine with Michael Fassbender.

I hope they can put a seriousness to the story. CGI is one thing...heck, LOTR had plenty of CGI...but it had depth and character. Warcraft needs to follow along that route and nto go with a cartoony feel that so many fantasy films seem to be stuck in.

Vin Diesel just posted this on his FB page saying: "i will fill in you later, but this meeting went well..."

Well I only asked because Vin is attached to another film called The Last Witch Hunter, and the logo on that top right piece of art kind of looks like it says that. You have to open the image and zoom a bit. I could be wrong tho
