Sci-Fi Dune

Minimalistic and grounded ? Have you read the books ? We have human computers, women who can control you by voice, technology than can fold space and ship steered by people than can predict the safer course by the use of prescience. We have flying ships with wings like insects, The Fremen are brutal and unforgiving people, even their children are killers. The best fighters are as skilled as Neo in the Matrix but for "real".

I can't say I am the biggest DUNE fan but THIS aspect of the story is one that I simply have been dying to see realized and in 2019 we can finally bring that to life in a way that Lynch and the SyFy mini series never could.

One doesn't exclude another. The stuff you describe doesn't demand overblown visuals. Even Harvesters or flying vessels still can have a very rational approach.

I agree about the rational approach but some things are quite overblown in size ( The Emperor throne room, the gathering place in the Fremen sietch etc ).
As @OfficerK said, I can't wait to see the first conceptual designs.

I want giant-sized spaces in the new Dune adaptation. In fact, among the things I didn't like in the '84 film, how confined everything was there. Maybe larger rooms or halls will contribute to operatic feel. To grandness of the houses that rule planets and scope of the events.

Rebecca Ferguson on Prepping for 'Dune' and Her 'Mission: Impossible' Future

The star is currently prepping for one of her most ambitious projects yet, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, a big-budget adaptation of the classic 1965 sci-fi novel in which she’ll play Jessica, the mother to Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) and member of the powerful Bene Gesserit sect. She’ll be flying out for a costume fitting next week.

It's not a sect :)

Good. She will be a fine Dame Jessica.

Costume fitting already. Looks like filming start is nearby. Need more casting news.

https://hnentertainment.co/denis-vi...adds-inception-vice-supervising-art-director/

HN Entertainment has learned that Dune landed Brad Ricker as the film’s supervising art director, who has an exciting background on various types of movies. Brad’s supervising/art director film credits include Vice, Inception, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Suicide Squad, Ghost In The Shell, Bad Boys 2, Foxcatcher, and Mission: Impossible III.

Previously revealed crew members working on Dune include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cinematographer Greig Fraser, Sicario/Arrival production designer Patrice Vermette, Blade Runner 2049 visual effects supervisors Richard R. Hoover and Paul Lambert, Blade Runner 2049 special effects coordinator Gerd Nefzer, and Dunkirk/The Dark Knight stunt coordinator Thomas Struthers. Also, it looks like The Revenant’s Jacqueline West might be the film’s costume designer as well.

Inception is the only worthy title from the list as far as art direction goes. Maybe Ghost in the Shell.

Nice. I was holding out hope that Leto would play Leto, but Isaac is a solid pick. :cwink:

Gooood. I'm slightly worried Isaac will look a bit too young to play Leto against Chalamet, he has something youthful about him even if he's 40.

The casting is slaying it overall so far.

You know, go with bearded Isaac, ala Ex Machina, and I can see it.

Oscar Isaac and Rebecca Ferguson: DILF meets MILF. No wonder Paul has such a complex.

The Duke was only like 50/51 when he died, and Oscar is like 40. So with some make-up/effects added perhaps, yeah I could see it.
