Sci-Fi Dune

Now, for Shaddam, what we need is for him to be described as he is in the book. Looking over 35 years of age even though he is 72. Domnhall Gleeson comes to mind - and he even has the correct hair colour to boot!

Make it so.

^ To young. Id forgo the looking 35, and go more with the weight of looking more his actual 72

When was the last time Bardem had a beard? Villenueve is really going with the fascinating picks for the roles.

I don't think Shaddam's appearance is that relevant for the story. I believe he can be anything from 45 to 65. I'd make him older, so Baron isn't the only elderly highborn in the film.

By the way, we still didn't get Irulan.

He’s way too old. Shaddam is supposed to look young even though he’s in his seventies.

Can always go halfway and go with somebody like Damian Lewis or Eric Stoltz.

As for Irulan, I'm still gunning for Elizabeth Debicki. She even shares some resemblance with Lewis too!

It’s gotta be Saoirse if Chalament’s Paul.

At this rate, my joke about Daniel Day Lewis playing a sandworm may actually come true.
Hell with DDL, he's going to straight up resurrect Joan Crawford.

somone just tweeted that they're convinced that this movie is going to seduce their wife with this cast

Cast Natalie Dormer as Margot Fenring and she can seduce me anytime... :wlso:

Javier Bardem has signed on for the role of Stilgar. This cast, man.....

If it's anything like Blade Runner 2049, it'll have an impressive cast, visuals, and set of reviews but will not fare well at the box-office. But I'm still excited!

Agree, that's why I think Charles Dance would be great as the Padishah Emperor.

No. Even better it should read as a wizened older man with the weight of ruling the universe, and the years, trying to pass himself off as younger. That is the strength of the character. Which Dance can pull off.

Not some young guy playing at being so much older, which will come off silly.

I believe we shouldn't typecast Dance into every kingly role. But I still think that older actor will work for Shaddam too.

Unless you actually know him from his many roles.

LOL! Just don't look up Space Truckers!

It's certainly possible. But the thing to me is that 2049 was a direct continuation of a film that (despite what many of us might think) never quite grew beyond being just a cult classic. For all the media talk of reboots and so on, this is simply a new adaptation, and ideally one that audiences can go into completely fresh.

Maybe it won't matter at all, but I don't think Dune has whole lot of familiarity among the general audience outside of literary nerds. But then again, Lord of the Rings probably didn't either in 2001 and Dune is considered the sci-fi equivalent of that.

I don't know if Dune is seen as quite as mainstream accessible. Certainly less than Star Wars or Star Trek, maybe less than The Lord of the Rings.

Eh, I think this will have the same result as BR2049 did at the box office. Denis should've at least tied their arm into shooting two films back to back. Villeneuve will at least deliver a good first part. lol

It will be seriously messed up if he delivers a very good first part, it underperforms and they will shut down filming of the second. It will be our turn to #ReleaseVilleneuveDunePart2...

Good news for us Dune fans. Can't wait to see what's coming.
