DVR Help!

Ok, so I have a pretty intense battle plan for my own ultimate TV and movie experience.

I'm planning on getting a new TV/Computer monitor by October and I was going to be getting an HD Receiver and DVR when I get DirectTV and I was wondering, is it possible (and legal) to record the video on my DVR and put it on my computer so I can save my favorite episodes and watch them later? I have no intention of putting the videos online either.

I think Tivo makes a device that will do this. Not sure why you want DirecTV, though. So expensive and a pain in the ass to deal with. If you must go with satellite, Dish Network is way cheaper.
