Sonys confrence was a swing and a miss :(

Let's be honest: It wasn't JUST a miss, the bat went flying out of their hands and killed an elderly woman in the process.

You are correct :(

Damn SONY  Its E3, this should be a happy time... But they just made everyone depressed :(

Depends on who you are, but yeah what a horrible way to start E3.

http://features.teamxbox.com/xbox/1573/E3-2006-Microsoft-Reaction-to-Sony-Press-Briefing/p1

When asked to comment on the briefing from a competitive standpoint, Shane Kim elaborated, “I’ve said this before, but there was nothing from Sony’s briefing that would make us change anything regarding our plans. We are very confident in our approach, especially now. We have a much better online story and much better content. Finally, we feel that our superior price point provides us an advantage.”

As for Sony’s online focus, Microsoft appeared confused. “They talked a lot about building an online community, which is something we’ve already established very well on Xbox Live. Surprisingly, they didn’t mention anything about their online gameplay structure.”

They could have just recorded unending laughter instead. People would have gotten the point.

The fact that this is coming from ZENIEN speaks VOLUMES about how disasterous this is going to be for Sony...

I'm honestly speechless.

I agree....wow.....I never thought Zenien of all people would be the one to damn sony.Out of curiosity, what was so bad about the sony conference for those of us on the other side of the pond?

600$

That's it. 360 is here to stay then. Notice how they didn't show GTA....
LMAO OUCH. OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH.I love to say 'I told you so', so I will, to those of you who said it would be on the cheaper side of $400.Sony are kidding right? Only the biggest fool would pay that much.'Oh wait, they could put a 3 on a black background and it would still pwn Sony's conference.'Even I didn't expect it to turn out THAT bad. And this from the guy who was insulting the excellent 360 a page or two back.

-Once again they failed to show any real gameplay and the gameplay footage they did show was not the 'console war winning material' SONY would have you believe.

-The Tacked on feature of motion sensors in the controller and the lack of force feedback.

-No real online plan just that they 'will build an online community'.

-The crap price and the crap 'core' version which forces people to buy the 'premium' version.

Im sure its not all bad but SONY are getting off on the wrong foot.

With the failure of Sony's press conference, Microsoft can show off games about mining coal mines and have people be more excited for it then PS3. Just the way it should be. :)

$600?

that blows. i'll pay it, but i won't be happy about it.

what so bad about the 'core' version?

See this is what I don't get...that's truly mind boggling.

'I'll pay, but I won't be happy...'

Yeah, THAT'LL teach Sony who's boss

I mean 360 has better games (thats just my opinion, but its not like Sony has more than one or two good game exclusives, MAX, that you have to pay $600 for the privalage for), live community, and is much, much cheaper, yet people will pay anyway?

No wonder Sony treats the consumers like idiots if they can get away with pulling this crap.

Even Wii looks better, with an interesting concept, games and price point.

It just goes to show that people will buy a 360 for a few extra hundred dollars just because it has Sony's name on it

The core version? It's a Tard pack!

No HDMI output, mem card slots , etc.

Don't get it. The real PS3 is the 600$ version.

Why? :(

I meant to say that Sony's console is more or less the same, but because it's Sony, people will give them more cash. Makes me sad :(

lol I think it's cause you accidentally said they'd by a 360, just cause it's from Sony ;)

But yeah, I have to agree...

Sony has made, IMO, a HUGGGE mistake with this. The most glaring one is a lot of what they failed to mention in the conference...the TRUE difference between the Core and Premium packs.

As someone who works at Circuit City, I hear a lot of people say "I'll just wait for the PS3, cause it'll have a Blu-Ray player in it." Or sometimes an occasional "PS3 will output in 1080p...something XBOX360 can't do.

Well, with what Sony's put together here, unless you chuck out $600 for the Premium one, neither will your PS3! No HDMI means no 1080p. Even worse...no HDMI means your Blu-Ray movies will be down-converted to... let me know if I'm wrong here...something like 540i! "The only TRUE HD console" my butt!

Want memory cards, so you can take small save files with you to your friend's house? Can't do it with the $500 version.

Can't wait to save $100 by having WiFi built into the PS3? Well, you better make sure you get the $600 one.

You like the now-standard Rumble feature that your controller outputs during your games? Say goodbye to this COMPLETELY on the PS3. That's right, no Rumble AT ALL. It "interferes with the tilt-sensoring feature". Strange, Nintendo was able to have both for their Wiimote.

Can't wait to play those 7-player-at-one-time games Krazy Ken said the system would allow? Well if the pictures of the "new" controller are any indication, you can only have 4 players at any time. Note the four lights on the top of the controller that tell you whether you're player 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Hyped up about the dual-screen output? Well I read a report on...IGN, I think... that mentions that it won't be able to do this after all! Now whether this means no dual HDMI output or no dual output at all, they didn't seem sure, but here's yet another promise Sony has failed to keep.

So let's look at it this way:

You can spend "only" $500 for PS3 Core. But if you want the REAL PS3 you'll be screwed. For that, you'll have to buy the $600 one. This is as opposed to the $300 Core XBOX360 (which can be "upgraded" to a Premium if you just buy the accessories that make the difference...you can't "upgrade" the hardware that the Core PS3 is missing), and the $400 Premium XBOX360.

I'm just speechless...

And I'm willing to bet that there'll be a good surge of people buying the XBOX360 now that they've seen the $600 pricetag of the PS3. I know of MANY people who said they'd wait to see what the PS3 costs before they decide what to get.

No I did mean 360....basically meaning that PS3 is a glorified 360, with Sony's brand behind it :D

And a $600 price tag.

And crappier games.

I would appreciate it if people didn't act like I'm some planted stoog for Sony. :p

Im sure its not all bad but SONY are getting off on the wrong foot.

- They showed gameplay of Resistance, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword.

- Apparently the tilt feature also allows for forward backwards and so on I'll find the article.

- Basically the thing that make it go from an 'ok' conference to an absolutely horrid one is the price. The games look good, but 500-600 dollars?

Keep in mind Microsoft's games look just as good, if not better as well as the price tag.

Also remember that even if you buy it for one game (IE MGS4), with the $60 tag, thats close to $700 for one game. Considering you will also want to buy one or two games at launch...well...your approaching a grand at that point.

Is it worth it when you can get a 360 and some games for the price of a ps3 on its own?

Damn, hope I'm back from school by then.

I can see a power difference between the top tier PS3 games and the top teir 360 games, for sure, it's their marginally, but I don't think it's worth 500-600 dollars. At if you think of the PS3 as an entertainment hub (as such it's a good deal for what it offers) then you can't get the 500 dollar version anyway.

Oh well, there are still great PS2 releases slated all the way into mid 2007, I'll see what the scene is by then. But I'll be gettinga Revolution at launch.

I'm sorry but do you think those games are even close to being finnished. Listen guys how can you even compare games with a system thats been out for months and a system thats not coming out for months. Come on. I'll reserve my comparisons when I see the finnished product. And as you said there already is a marginal difference between the two. Imagine when the finnished product is shown.
